Alex smiled softly as he remembered when he and his brother, Duncan, had discovered their gifts. His brother was six and he was ten at the time. They had been running in the backyard when Duncan had very suddenly sped up and got ahead of him. It was strange because Duncan was usually so much slower than him.

Aparently Duncan was just as confused as Alex was because he ran right into a tree. Duncan had scraped his face on the bark of the tree and as bleeding pretty badly. Alex wipped off the blood while is little brother cried. That was the first time Alex had healed a wound.

Alex's smile erased pretty quickly when he noticed Nori's change in mood. Had he said something wrong and made her upset just like Kadvar?

"Are you alright?" He said, his voice lased with consern.

She turned and smiled cheerily at him. "I'm okay - I have to be okay, right? I think it's probably part of the job. Besides, it would be a bad show of character if I wasn't okay... just..."

Nori slowed her words and frowned at the floor, formulating her words properly. She shrugged slowly and sniffed.

"Just sometimes... sometimes it's a little hard to go on about things like everything is going to be okay. I mean, it will be okay! That's the good thing! But... well, I guess you could probably understand what I mean when I say that sometimes it just rots to keep a secret or make important decisions. That's really all!"

She perked back up, straightening her shoulders and almost tripping over her mop.

Alex tried to piece together the things Nori had said to try to figure out what was bothering her. He frowned softly, this was the kind of thing Lucius would be doing and he didn't want to stoop down to that level. He wasn't very good at reading people, perhaps Lucius could figure it out, but he couldn't.

It seemed strange to him to think that he had to comfort a janitor and tell her it would be alright. Afterall he was the one that should need the comfort, he was the one getting cruelly tested on as if he were just one of the many albino rats he was sure they had stored away somewhere.

"What is wrong? What do you need to be okay?" He said, he paused then added, "You don't have to answer."

Nori dunked her mop into the bucket and went back to work on the floor with enthusiasm that would have been hard for anyone else to match. At times she worked like her life depended on it.

"Well I guess you'd know how it feels to get torn away from important people, right? Yeah, that's really it - I have someone important!"

The janitor stopped and fished around the inside of her jumpsuit until she found a wallet. After digging through it she pulled out a wrinkled, worn photo of a little boy with an intense shock of red hair and a huge smile. She showed it to Alex before turning it back to herself, gingerly stroking it with a tender look full of love.

"Look at his little face... he's got the cutest apple cheeks, round and red, and when he talks... ah, he's so cute..." she murmured before slowly sliding it back into its appropriate wallet sleeve. "But, you know, I should be happier! Mm-mm! After all, I'll probably get to see him soon if I work hard enough! I'm sorry, I'm not very nice, am I? Complaining to others isn't ever a good thing."

Alex smiled when Nori showed him the picture of the boy. It was the first genuine smile he had in a very long time. Hopefully that boy wasn't cursed with a 'gift' and was living a competely normal life.

"It's alright!" He said. "I understand, I got a little brother I care about the same way you do for that boy. I don't know where he is, but I am hoping he isn't here since he is also a gifted." Alex paused, thinking over his next question. He didn't want to word it wrong.

"Who is that boy? Is he your brother or...?"

Nori smiled. "Oh, that's my son! Aren't little relatives the best? I guess it was nice, though, that your brother is gifted, too. At least you had someone who understood you, right?"

She smiled bleakly as she moved her bucket of water and started mopping another section of the floor, still facing the cell.

"I'll bet you love him a lot. If... if you want... Well, it's my week to clean the cell areas, and if you tell me your brother's name and gift I could keep my eyes out for him and let you know! It's terrible not knowing where a loved one is, especially one who'd gifted. It's terrifying..."

Alex in the past may have refused Nori's offer. He would like to just think that Duncan may be free and wouldn't want to know if he was here or not. But now with the plans of an excape, he needed to know if he brother was here. Alex could not leave without him.

"Thank you, that would be quite nice." He said. "My brother's name is Duncan Rose and he is a speed gifted. He is a bit of a ditz and he wouldn't cause any trouble."

Alex paused for a moment before he spoke again.

"Hopefully you don't see him, then that means he is still free."

Nori smiled at him and began to move away from his cell, but not before saying, "I'll keep my eyes p-"

She tripped and fell across her mop, smacking her face on the handle when she hit the floor. The janitor moaned pitifully, rolling onto her back and rubbing her face where a red welt began to form. What had caused her to fall wasn't apparent - whether it had been the wet floor or her own two feet, no one would ever be sure, but her clumsiness seemed to always haunt her. She popped up to standing and casually moved on, pretending nothing had happened. After all, it was a normal occurrence for her.

Alex flinched when Nori suddenly fell. It was no wonder she needed to be fixed up before, she most likely had tripped and fell into something. Alex wasn't really annoyed by her clumsyness though, it reminded him greatly of his younger brother. He was always knocking something over or running into something.

When Nori straightened Alex noticed the injury. He smiled softly, but he hid it from her. He quickly changed his expresion to consern. This was just another way for him to get Nori on their side.

"You hurt yourself, you don't have to go around with that thing hurting you all day." Alex said, pointing to the wound. "I can heal it." He offered.

Nori blinked owlishly, sniffed, and shuffled over to her cart, carefully pushing the mop into its special side-cart clips. She patted it, then pushed her cart closer to Alex's cell. She smiled largely at him, wincing slightly as her muscles moved.

“It's probably great to be able to heal people, right? I wish I could do something as helpful as that. I mean, I love cleaning! But people don't always see how important that is – I guess you could say it's my gift!” she said, nodding resolutely. “It's weird that it's okay to have a 'normal' gift like cleaning. I could probably still kill someone with my mop.”

Alex never liked when someone thought it was great to have a gift. Was it great to be set apart? Was it great to no longer be consetered human? No, it wasn't great, it wasn't a gift, it was a curse.

He could have been very usefull, especially in hostpitals and other places of the sort, but people failed to see past the fact that he was different. His gift was in no way dangerous, but yet they acted as if he were a rabid animal or something. He was not violent by nature, they brought on that trait in him by treating him the way they did.

He reached out from between the bars to Nori. Alex glanced over at the guard, wondering what he would do. Better make this quick unless the guard over reacted. As soon as his hand touched the wound information flooded his mind. Things about how the body worked, how the damage was caused and how to fix it. It took about thirdy seconds for it to heal.

Nori felt her face grow a bit warm when he touched her – the pain seemed to go away instantly. She couldn't help but stare at him with intensity, wondering what it was like to heal a person the way he could. To her, his gift was a blessing, and his state was just a setback. If the world could just see his kind in a better light she knew they would be looked up to.

“I want... mm... I want for the world to see gifted people like you the way they should. I think I would do anything – no, I would do anything, and nearly will, to get them to see that. Maybe that's why I work here? Mm, I don't really know, but I don't think it's impossible for the world to change.”

Alex very quickly noticed how Nori watched him as he healed her. She thought his ability was a good thing. How on earth did she think it wasn't anything but a curse? He pulled away his hand and looked down at the floor, breaking their eye contact.

As he listened to her speak he thought over what he should say. He breathed in deeply and looked up again and looked at Nori.

"No one will think of us differently if we are always locked up in here." He said. His expresion was firm and determined and his green eyes were set on Nori's blue ones.

Nori rubbed the back of her neck and said, "Yeah... I guess things probably should start with that... Oh! I'll bet there are some legal things about this somewhere! I should start researching that..."

She started muttering to herself as she walked back to cart, but she skidded to a stop after a few steps and turned around to look at Alex.

"Gomawo! This is the second time you've healed me, and I'm really grateful!" the janitor said with a sincere smile.

Then she turned, grabbed her cart, and began to wheel down the hallway with a furrowed brow and a mind working on overdrive at what she believed was her new mission.

Alex waved Nori goodbye with an amused smile on his face.

"No problem, just keep a look out for my little bro, k?" He said. He walked back to his bed and sat down, feeling quite accomplished. Nori seemed to be the perfect person to help them excape. He didn't even think they needed to trick her. She seemed to already want them to have their freedom back.

Alex waited until both Nori and the guard left before he spoke to Kadvar.

"Well, I think it went well." He said as he leaned back on the bed. He let all his weight fall on his hands.

Lab Rats (Gifted Roleplay)
Setting

All the characters are at a lab in a remote island. All the guards and scientists live in buildings around the lab. Most of the lab is under ground. The lab is very guarded and is pretty much impossable to excape from. There are rooms of about five Gifteds all in their own cell, but they are able to see each other and speak to each other.

Plot

In our world, we expect we all have the same kinds of abilities, we can all do the same things, it all just depends on what you practice. However that believe is wrong, there are people born with strange, fantastic and even dangerous powers known as Gifteds. It doesn't matter if the parents are Gifted, the children produced seem to be randomly Gifted or non-Gifted.

Of course normal people fear the Gifteds, they are stronger than them, more dangerous than them and they have no way of knowing who is who. That's why when people learned of them the hunt for Gifteds started almost immediately.

The caught Gifteds were sent away to a place only known as 'The Labs' where they are experimented on to find their weaknesses and their strengths. Their final goal is to find a way to control them and use them for wars.

Please play as the minority group so we don't get overflowed with one type of character.

Please look at other characters and do not make Gifteds with a power someone already has.

All powers must have weaknesses. For example, most Gifteds will loose control of their ability while under stress.

Only one power for each Gifted.

Both guards and scientists carry weapons, but scientists will only use them if a guard isn't around.
