Caleb could not hold back a laugh when Verner slipped. It was not his intention to make him fall when he created the ice. He just had gotten a little bored waiting for the thermometer to finish. Caleb was pretty good at doing pretty much anything on ice.

However that wasn't a trait he just had because he was gifted. He had frozen the ground before just to mess around on it. Over time, naturally, he got better at it. He liked any activity that was done in colder weather.

"Watch your step." Caleb said, a bit of laughter still in his voice.

"Yes, yes, very funny," his tone was mocking Caleb's sense of humor. There were some scientists, mostly the older ones, whom if they were to slip they were certain to fall and break something. Good thing he wasn't close to being that slow or fragile.

After he was done writing down the results from the allergy test he checked the clock. They may have enough time for testing. There was only one more thing to do, check his height. He was going to take his pulse today but realized after taking his blood his pulse wouldn't give a very accurate reading.

Verner placed his chair back where it belonged and began throwing out or putting away some of the materials he had used. He took out a tape ruler from one of the drawers and placed his clipboard on the counter for now. "Can you get him out of the chair," he asked the guard.

The guard unstrapped one arm and fasened the cuff around it then freed the second one so that Caleb was never competely free. It would have been easy for Caleb to freeze his hand then, but he did not want to be marked as more dangerous as he already was.

He guessed that red tag on the ship meant that he was consetered dangerous simply because of his gift. He did not want them to think he was dangerous because of his gift AND actions. At least not until he knew what was going on. The guard told him to stand and he did without a problem.

"What now?" He asked.

"Just checking your height," then preforming a stress test but there was no way he'd tell him that. Not while they didn't have his gift under complete control. He moved towards Caleb with the tape measurer, stepped on the bottom of it to keep it in place, and lifted the tape measurer until it was aligned with the top of his head. Once he was sure what his height was he removed his foot from the bottom of the tape measurer and let it retract back into it's case. He put the tape measurer away and wrote down his height.

They'd have enough time for a stress test he decided. The purpose was to see how stress and fear affected the strength of his ability. Often people felt most stressed when something was chasing them, so maybe he'd use one of the animals.

"Put him in the room please," he asked the guard.

The guard nodded and led Caleb out of the room. As the guard led Caleb down the hall he tried to get the guy to tell him something, anything about this place. But the guard said nothing but 'be quiet'.

"Gosh, you don't have to be so rude." Caleb numbled. The guard left him in a cell that had a bed and a desk with nothing on it. One wall was made up of bars, like a prison. There were others here to. They had stopped speaking once the guard came in. They slowly started back up whatever they were doing once he was gone.

That had gone quicker than he was expecting, and now he had time to do testing with Duncan. He picked up a phone to request that a guard pick up Duncan for him. There was no way he would work with the strength gifted if he was going to avoid it. Of all the gifteds he worked with he preferred working with Duncan because of his milder temperament.

While waiting for the guard to show up he tested the equipment that had been damaged to determine if it had finished being repaired. It was... for the most part. However it made a wretched screeching sound as it moved side to side. Good thing he wouldn't be using this weapon meant to keep gifteds under control.

Like always, the room went silent when the guard entered the room. No one wanted to draw attention to themselves, exept the strenth gifted. But the guard choose to ignore him. Duncan's heart sank when he stopped at his cell.

The moment the guard opened the cell door Duncan went into a submissive stance. His sholders raised and his head lowered. He looked at the guard with wide green eyes that clearly showed his fear of him.

The guard looked a little relieved that he wouldn't have to deal with another problem gifted. He restrained Duncan and brought him out into the hallway. The walk there was quiet, afterall there was nothing to talk about. Duncan wasn't suprised at all when the guard opened the door to the usual lab.

The mechanics had done a horrible job at fixing the particular piece of machinery. It worked sure, but not without a metal grinding screetch as it probably damaged itself. Hearing the footsteps down the hall he entered the command to remove the weapon from the room only for it to jam. "Come on..." He'd have to get it fixed again. He wanted to remove it from the room though as to not needlessly worry the gifted. He wouldn't be using it for the test. After entering the command again it finally began to remove the machinery.

The guard entered the room while the machinery was still being removed. It sounded horrid and he could hardly hear himself think. Maybe it was his own fault as he had simply assumed it was fixed. There was no way he could give the guard the order to put Duncan in the testing room over the sound of what might as well be tearing metal, so he gave the guard the signal to wait until it was done.

Duncan stiffened at the sound of the metal. It did not seem like it was a good sound, maybe something was broken? He did not want to go into that room if things were not working propperly.

"What is that?" He asked. "Is something broken in there or something?"

He did not get his answer though, because the moment he finished speaking the sound stopped. The guard opened the door and pushed him in. He quickly undid the cuffs and closed the door.

Duncan looked around for the sorce of the noise and found a single screw on the floor. He could only guess it had fallen off of whatever machine it was meant to be part of.

As long as the mechanics hadn't messed with anything else they were fine. Maybe, unless the weapon fell out of place where it was held in the roof, or the light they claimed they'd fix popped out of place again. "Try to stay out of the middle of the room," that was where the damaged equipment was.

For this test he wanted to see if the speeds Duncan could run at were harmful to other organisms. He typed in a command for a rat to be put in the room. A small hole opened and a platform with a caged rat was put into the room. "I need you to take the rat out of the cage, and run around a little."

If the rat was killed it was a minor loss, the lab breeded them in the building and they were easily replaceable.

Duncan took heed of Verner's warning and backed up into the wall. He looked up at the ceiling as if he expected a monster to fall out of it.

The rat was a little suprising, he hadn't seen any animals ever since he was brought to the labs. It was a white one of course, with pink eyes. He opened the cage but was careful about sticking his hands in. He had no idea how often this animal was handled.

The rat didn't like being touched and squirmed in Duncan's hands. Duncan dropped it and it fell onto the ground. For a second it didn't move and Duncan thought he had hurt it, then it bolted away from him.

"If I do that, will I hurt it?" He asked.

How was he suppose to answer that question? If he said nothing the gifted would probably just stand there. It was time like these he wish there was a "no comment" option to a conversation.

"You shouldn't hurt it while running," it was more likely he'd kill it outright before it could feel pain. Or something odd happened like it coming out unharmed but he highly doubted that. He looked at the ceiling where the damaged equipment had been half expecting it to just pop out of place and collapse. It held in place for now though.

He imagined the equipment falling and crushing the rat right after Duncan had asked the question. That would be awesome, and terrible. The ceiling held though.

The rat was now walking alone the wall of the room, it paused every once in a while to sniff or to stand up on it's hind legs. It was rather cute to Duncan and he didn't want the animal to get harmed or to die. Duncan didn't understand the reasoning behind this test and did not understand why the rat was here. But he did know that if he wanted to stay out of trouble, he should do what Verner asked him to.

Duncan could not get to his highest speed in the room since he had to keep turning. Plus he didn't want to step on the rat. This caution also caused him to be slower.

"I'm sorry, I wasn't very clear. You have to be holding the rat while running." He really should've been clearer, and he typically was.

The force from Duncan's speed was likely to harm the rat. He wanted to see how the G-forces Duncan ran at affected the rat. The worst it could do was turn it into a bag of organs, which would most certainly kill the animal. The less harmful affects were brain damage and loss of consciousness, which were still potentially harmful. If the damage was bad enough they'd just euthanize the animal as it was useless to reuse at that point.

"Oh." Duncan said as he stopped. Which took a little longer than normal. Since he couldn't just stop, he had to slow down until he could stop. He looked down at the white creature, which was currently in a corner. When he reached for it, the rat ran from him.

"He doesn't want me to hold him." He said. The rat had gone to another corner and was staring out at Duncan. Duncan inched closer to it then sat down. He held out a hand.

"Come here." He said softly. Thirdy seconds passed before the rat moved. It iched closer and sniffed his hand. Smiling, Duncan grabbed the rat. The animal wasn't very happy about it, but at least now it didn't freak out.

Lab Rats (Gifted Roleplay)
Setting

All the characters are at a lab in a remote island. All the guards and scientists live in buildings around the lab. Most of the lab is under ground. The lab is very guarded and is pretty much impossable to excape from. There are rooms of about five Gifteds all in their own cell, but they are able to see each other and speak to each other.

Plot

In our world, we expect we all have the same kinds of abilities, we can all do the same things, it all just depends on what you practice. However that believe is wrong, there are people born with strange, fantastic and even dangerous powers known as Gifteds. It doesn't matter if the parents are Gifted, the children produced seem to be randomly Gifted or non-Gifted.

Of course normal people fear the Gifteds, they are stronger than them, more dangerous than them and they have no way of knowing who is who. That's why when people learned of them the hunt for Gifteds started almost immediately.

The caught Gifteds were sent away to a place only known as 'The Labs' where they are experimented on to find their weaknesses and their strengths. Their final goal is to find a way to control them and use them for wars.

History

Lucius brought Nori and Alex for a test to see if Alex could heal Nori's sickness.

Alex was drugged in order to savely bring him back to his cell.

Kadvar told Alex his plans to excape by writing on a card and passing it to him.

Kadvar is dirtying his cell to try to attract Nori.

Rusty is being lazy and not updating this.

Rules

Please play as the minority group so we don't get overflowed with one type of character.

Please look at other characters and do not make Gifteds with a power someone already has.

All powers must have weaknesses. For example, most Gifteds will loose control of their ability while under stress.

Only one power for each Gifted.

Both guards and scientists carry weapons, but scientists will only use them if a guard isn't around.

No killing without permission.
