"With as much attention she focuses on cleaning I doubt she'd notice if we came too close." The janitor could hardly rememember how to walk when she was cleaning, or so it seemed. That could all be an act she put on to make herself seem like an easier target. But why would she want to appear that way?

Kadvar was still suspicious of those around them but wouldn't put much more thought into it. It wasn't like he could control what they said, and chances were they had better control of their gifts. If anyone was going to do the threatening it would be them, depending on what gifts they had. If they were going to tell on them they would've by now and him and Alex would've been separated. Or at least he would think so.

Lucius had written up his report pretty quickly. He didn't put much detail into it because sometimes people got upset when there were tests that endangered test subjects to this degree. To be competely honest, Lucius didn't really care much about what they thought, but felt it was best to stay on the good side of most people.

Since he written it quickly, he knew that there would be errors. He tended to make rather ridiculous typos and it would be rather embarrassing to keep them in the report. He was reading it over for the second time when Lance came back. He looked away from his computer screen when he heard him enter.

"I am done for today, I think." He said.

Lance nodded, stepping to the side. He reckoned the scientist might desire to return to his office before he signed off for the night, but either way Lance wouldn't be dismissed until the scientist left the lab block. Playing escort was pretty much his job, so Lance awaited the scientist's movement or otherwise, standing still.

The trek back to C-13 had been uneventful, the scientists in the hallways having noticeably diminished in comparison to earlier. They were all likely wrapping up for the day, and the guards that were around seemed to be far too eager to start slacking off- that is, if they hadn't already. Lance wasn't going to make any judgement calls, however, and nothing else that happened in the hallways were his business.

By the time Lance returned, Lucius had finished the work on the computer and he shut it down.  In a half a hour or so all the lights in the building would be shut off, including this testing room. Lucius would rather not have to make his way back to above ground using a flashlight.

He stood up when Lance came back into the room. He pushed the seat in before he turned around to face the guard.

"Well," he said. "We should get going before we find our selfs in pitch darkness." Lucius said before he went to the door.

The rest of the evening was rather uneventful, consisting of completing paperwork and planning tests for the strength gifted he worked with. Repairs to his lab would be finished tomorrow and one of the higher ups wanted him to make up for "lost time". As if it was his fault the gifted had damaged some equipment. Like he was to blame for failing to control or stop him when older and more experienced scientists had given up on testing with the gifted, and made him his responsibility. Last time he checked all the equipment in his lab was suppose to be durable and indestructible. Apparently, the one thing he had decided to use to keep him in check was one of the few pieces of equipment that could be damaged by strength gifteds.

The next morning Verner checked his email to see if his lab was fixed yet. Instead there was an email with a message he wasn't expecting or hoping to see. There was a new arrival, couldn't they have told his yesterday? He checked the date stamp to find the message was sent within the last hour. Why was it he seemed to be the last person to know of this? He checked the second email hoping it would tell him his lab was fixed, but no. There was a new security overhaul, which was useless to know as it stated he'd be assigned a guard anywhere from the end of this month and the next. Considering he was a lower priority compared to some of the more experienced scientists, it was more likely he'd be assigned a guard towards the end of next month.

He printed what little information there was on the gifted and started making his way towards his lab. The new gifted was supposed to arrive very soon, and he'd need the lab to be ready. Ice gifted, that's what he'd be working with. While reading a scientist had decided now was a good time to make idle conversation. No it wasn't. On a typical day he would've gladly stopped to talk, but today he simply didn't have that kind of time.

"Hey did you hear about the new security overhaul?" The scientist seemed to be unable to recognize just how busy he really was.

"Yes sure, but I need-"

"I was assigned my guard yesterday, he's not too bright but seems efficient enough. Did you get yours yet?" The scientist had cut him off rather abruptly.

"I don't have time today, new arrival." That seemed to be all the explaining he needed as the scientist simply nodded and moved on, thankfully.

He finally arrived to his lab to see a mechanic testing the once damaged equipment for any errors. "Is it fixed?"

"Think so," suddenly a light in the testing room fell out of place and started dangling by it's wires.

"That wasn't even broken before!" He was starting to become stressed from the pressure of the situation. There was no time for this.

"We had to pop it outta place to access some of the equipment, we can fix it easy."

We? It was then he recognized the second mechanic with a ladder in the testing room. He was familiar with him as he had talked with the mechanic before. "I need this fixed, I don't care how but it needs to happen now."

"We'll see what we can do," was the answer he gave. It wasn't a confident enough answer for Verner.

There was no time to hang around, he had to actually meet Caleb. He continued reading while he moved through the halls. He thought he saw Lucius but didn't bother looking up from his papers. It was days like this that made him feel overworked and overstressed. Normally he was a rather carefree person, but it was hard to stay that way when they only warn him an hour in advance of a new arrival.

Lucius was walking down the hallway when Verner ran passed him. He nearly hit right into him, but Verner took no notice of it. Lucius stopped and looked behind him, half expecting Verner to hit into a wall or something. It wasn't too far fetched, afterall he was looking down at papers rather than what was in front of him.

Verner did not strike Lucius as the kind of person to be bolting down the hallways like that. Lucius sighed and conentued on his way. Whatever was the problem with Verner, it wasn't his problem. If it did consern him, Verner would have stopped.

Caleb was not feeling well. But who wouldn't after spending several days in a metal cage inside a ship where the packages should have gone. He rolled over onto his back and flopped his arm over his face so he covered his eyes and wished for the pain in his head to cease.

It didn't help that there was much more commotion above than what was normal. This caused many of the other gifteds to start talking. Their voices were worried and fearful. If Caleb was scared, he didn't show it. He had accepted the fact that whatever happened, it would be bad. There was no point in guessing which bad thing it would be.

The government had told the general public that all gifteds that were caught were to be killed. Yet here he was, a gifted who was caught and not dead. Caleb guessed that they made that up just to cover up whatever they were really doing with all the gifteds they were rounding up.

A door opened and there were heavy footsteps going loudly down a flight of stairs. Judging by the sound, it was a group of people. Caleb didn't even bother to look up until they were at the end of the stairs.

It was indeed a group of people. All of them were very well armed. Nothing strange about that, everyone Caleb had seen apart from other gifteds carried at least one weapon. One of them opened the door to a gifted's cage and ordered them to get out.

However it seemed like the gifted didn't move fast enough for him because the guard took hold of the back of her shirt and dragged her out. This caused her knees to drag along the floor and cut them open. It was a competely avoidable injury.

Caleb looked away. He had a very protective quallity to him and even though he did not know that girl, he would get angry at the guards for mistreating her. According to people around him Caleb had a bit of a anger issue. However they only thought this because Caleb was good had hiding his annoyance. So when he finnally burst, it was very unexpected.

The guards took each gifted one by one out of their cages. They cuffed them and marched them up the stairs and out of sight. It was clear they at finally reached their destination.

Caleb was on the side closer to the door, so it didn't take long until it was his turn. The guard glanced at a tag that was tied to Caleb's cage. It was bright red. Caleb had noticed that all guards were more careful around any gifted that had one. The guard's hand was on his tazer before he even unlocked the door.

Caleb had to crawl in order to get out of his prison. These 'cells' were way too small. He could barely stretch out and could never even dream of standing up in there. It was pretty releaving to be able to get up.

But that feeling very quickly died when the cuffs were slapped on him. They weren't the regular cold, hard metal. These were burning hot, at least they felt that way to Caleb.

He was extreamely sensative to tempature, exspecially heat. It was very uncomfortable and even somewhat painful for him. Usually he would have complained, but he felt it was best to lay low for now and figure out what is going on.

He did nothing and said nothing as he was led up the stairs and out into the world.

Verner quickly stopped by his office to call for a guard, only now realizing he forgot to call one up. The guards from the ship weren't the same ones they used in the labs he would think. The guards on the ships had to be better trained, or at least he hoped, to deal with a large amount of gifteds all fearing for their future and lives.

He made his way to the cell the printed email had stated Caleb would be placed in. They had time to assign him to a cell but not inform him of his arrival. Maybe it was a last minute decision that he should deal with the new gifted. It wasn't unheard of the higher ups to be so indefinite or make decisions when it suited them.

When he arrived there was no new gifted or awaiting guard yet. They had to be late then as the email stated they should've been here ten minutes ago. Tardiness should be expected though as it was a boat they were travelling in, not a plane. Their arrival time depended on the roughness of the sea.

Well there was really nothing else to do but wait. It seemed that the gifteds a certain scientist worked with were placed somewhat close together. He worked with some of the gifteds in the cell block. It was best not to talk to them. Especially the strength gifted who was staring at him with a malevolence only a killer would have. He didn't look terribly strong, but had enough power to carry a car or snap a spine with only one of his lighter blows. Best to ignore him altogether.

As the guard guided Caleb he looked around wildly. As if he had the ability to see everything around him at once. No one had told him anything and he did not feel like it was a good idea to be asking questions right now.

He only took a few steps before they were in the buidling. He guessed they didn't want them outside in the open were they could excape for very long. Even though it was all fenced in with barb wire on top. Also with the overkill on guards, only an insane person would try something then.

Once inside he was passed off to a different guard. The first one left, and Caleb assumed he was going back to the ship. Caleb could clearly see that there was an elevator, but the guard decided to take the stairs instead.

The guard must have noticed him glance at it because he said,

"Do you really think I would go into a small space like that alone with you?"

Caleb choose to respond with only shake of his head. But his thoughts were very different.

"Of course not." He thought. "I could turn a tiny room like that into a freezer in less than a mintue. Even with these damn cuffs."

The treck down the stairs was annoying long and Caleb was quite happy to see it end. They were in a long hallway with doors on each side. Each door had a number and a letter painted in black. They walked down the hallway for about a minute before the guard stopped and opened one of the doors.

Verner wasn't expecting the guard and gifted quite so soon and expected them to be at least a few minutes later than they were. They must've arrived just recently. He was glad they had showed up when they did though. It was becoming difficult to ignore the strength gifted as he had finished reading the papers and had little other distractions.

He turned to the guard who was moving Caleb, "Is this the new ice gifted?"

The guard simply nodded. Verner knew just how much work new arrivals were. He had to determine his temperament, his weaknesses, the extent of his powers, find if emotion affected his ability, determine possible allergies and medical conditions, and possible illnesses. He needed to run many tests, run blood work, he had to measure his height and weight, measure his blood pressure and body temperature. There was so much work to do. Not only that, there was still Duncan he had to make time for as Lucius probably wanted him present during Alex's tests. It was going to be a busy week, but somehow he'd find a way to effectively manage his time. Hopefully his lab was fixed so he could accomplish some work today.

"I'll need him in my lab," today he just hoped to get some of the basic blood work, allergy tests, and basic health information out of the way. If he was lucky he could get a stress test completed while the gifted was still in a hopefully stressed state of mind. But chances were there would be a delay somewhere along the way or Lucius would request that he bring Duncan for one of Alex's tests.

Only an idiot wouldn't be able to tell where he was at this point. There were many clues and Verner's use of the word 'lab' confirmed it. Caleb had spent a long time getting himself to accept the fact that life wasn't going to get any easier, but it didn't seem to help with his worry and stress.

When negative emotions were running high, Caleb was very likely to loose control of his gift. There were two places on his body that could be used to create ice, hands and feet. His hands were kept in check by the cuffs, but his untethered gift was already working on turning a small area around his feet into an ice rink.

"My name is Caleb, not 'the new ice gifted'." He said lowly. He said the last part in a mocking tone.

"Are you sure? How about ice boy instead, or maybe frosty?" He was joking of course. The strength gifted seemed annoyed with him as he kicked his bars in frustration.

"Shut it!" It was clear the gifted was trying to intimidate him. Verner didn't seem very frightened of him. Not while he was behind bars at least.

"Ooh, scary. There's toddlers in these labs more frightening than you," and there most certainly was. He had wasted enough time now though, they needed to get moving.

He began leading the guard onward, but had to stop as the guard had nearly slipped on some ice where Caleb had been standing. Not good, it meant his gift wasn't under complete control while cuffed. There was no time to address the issue today though and after the guard regained balance they began moving again.

"Were there any other interesting gifteds on the boat?" The guard hadn't been on the ship, so the only person he could've been addressing was Caleb. He couldn't help but be slightly interested.

Caleb was not at all amused by Verner's name calling. It was a childish thing that middle schoolers did in a pitiful attempt at bullying. He really hoped this guy wouldn't contenue to call him that. If he called him fosty he would get a face full of ice the moment Caleb could get to him.

The ice on the floor was not intentsional and Caleb had not noticed it until the guard slipped. As long as he was stressed, that was only to happen. He couldn't stop it. In fact that was the reason he was caught. It didn't matter how fast you ran or ho good you could hide when your leaving behind a trail of your every footstep.

Caleb held back a laugh when he heard Verner's question. Did he really think Caleb would answer truthfully? Expecially after what had happened only a mintue ago.

"How would I know?" He said.

"Well you were on the boat with them." He wouldn't bother asking again though when it was clear the gifted wouldn't answer. It would just be a waste of breath and time.

The guard seemed rather quiet so the rest of the trip to the lab was silent. He opened the door into the lab for the guard. He wouldn't have Caleb put in the testing lab now, and possibly not for the whole day if he ran out of time. There was more important things to do. "Restrain him in the chair."

The mechanics were gone so hopefully that meant his lab equipment was repaired. However, chances were he wouldn't have enough time to use it.

Verner put on a pair of gloves and opened a multitude of cabinets and drawers collecting the materials he required, which seemed to be quite a bit. It would probably be best to draw blood before he did the allergy test to avoid collecting any innaccurate blood samples.

"Any known allergies, medical conditions, or fear of needles?" He would find out the answer to these questions soon enough, but it was best to know this in case he was the kind of person who became ill if blood was drawn. Also they didn't seem to have his gift completely under control yet. It would be best to know if Caleb was afraid of needles or not, because if he was and he happened to be a gifted influenced by emotion they could very well be spending the next hour trying to thaw their way out of the room.

Caleb allowed the guard get him in the chair without a problem. He looked around the room in an attempt to figure out what it was used for. The left side of the room had cabinets, drawers and a sink. It looked very simular to a typical doctor's office.
But then there was the other side of the room. There was a desk and a computer with several screens. There was about a billion different things that could be used for. It didn't look like he was used for just keeping records.
He looked back when Verner spoke. Caleb had already decided that he didn't like this man and he was going to tell him as little about himself as possable.
"That depends," He started slowly. "What the needle is being used for."

Lab Rats (Gifted Roleplay)
Setting

All the characters are at a lab in a remote island. All the guards and scientists live in buildings around the lab. Most of the lab is under ground. The lab is very guarded and is pretty much impossable to excape from. There are rooms of about five Gifteds all in their own cell, but they are able to see each other and speak to each other.

Plot

In our world, we expect we all have the same kinds of abilities, we can all do the same things, it all just depends on what you practice. However that believe is wrong, there are people born with strange, fantastic and even dangerous powers known as Gifteds. It doesn't matter if the parents are Gifted, the children produced seem to be randomly Gifted or non-Gifted.

Of course normal people fear the Gifteds, they are stronger than them, more dangerous than them and they have no way of knowing who is who. That's why when people learned of them the hunt for Gifteds started almost immediately.

The caught Gifteds were sent away to a place only known as 'The Labs' where they are experimented on to find their weaknesses and their strengths. Their final goal is to find a way to control them and use them for wars.

History

Lucius brought Nori and Alex for a test to see if Alex could heal Nori's sickness.

Alex was drugged in order to savely bring him back to his cell.

Kadvar told Alex his plans to excape by writing on a card and passing it to him.

Kadvar is dirtying his cell to try to attract Nori.

Rusty is being lazy and not updating this.

Rules

Please play as the minority group so we don't get overflowed with one type of character.

Please look at other characters and do not make Gifteds with a power someone already has.

All powers must have weaknesses. For example, most Gifteds will loose control of their ability while under stress.

Only one power for each Gifted.

Both guards and scientists carry weapons, but scientists will only use them if a guard isn't around.
