It was clear that this test was a failure, Kadvar showed no signs of actually competing the task. His attempt to protect himself was impressive, but Lucius was pretty sure he wasn't going to leave the corner.

Lucius had expected Kadvar to be panicked, but he had hoped that he would be able to deactiate the machines, if not only on pure luck. He showed no signs that he was going to do anything but cower in his corner. Lucius stopped the test, seeing no reason to keep it going.

Lucius did not want to send Lance in there when the fire was still going. He turned on the sprinklers, which promptly soaked Kadvar and killed his protective circle. Lucius then turned to Lance and said,

"Could you get him out?"

It took Kadvar some time to realize the bullets had stopped flying, and for the second time today his clothes were soaked. He raised his head and opened his eyes half expecting the gunfire to begin again. The gifted was on edge and appeared that he could set flame at the slightest scare or loud noise. This test was nightmare fuel for sure, he'd be lucky if he slept at all tonight.

After the test he was more than ready to leave the room. The last thing he would do is cause trouble only to be locked in. He rubbed his sore and heated wrists, a minor side effect of activating his ability. One thing he didn't look forward to was the cold cuffs. At this point they would be terribly cold, almost painful to his delicate wrists.

The fire gifted promised himself if he was brought anywhere near Lucius, he would give him a good kick to the knee. That would show the scientist for making him fear for his life.

Lance nodded, crossing to the door and placing himself in front of it as it was opened, blocking any potential escape. The gifted wasn't making a run for it, though, and Lance stepped in. The gifted didn't seem to be intent on causing any trouble inside the test room, and Lance knelt onto a knee and gathered the gifted's hands behind his back. Lance had been slightly quizzical as to why the gifted had been cradling his wrists, but again pushed it out of the forefront of his mind to think about later.

... The gifted's wrists were very warm to the touch. Lance noticed this just as he was about to slot the cuffs into place. This resulted in just the slightest hesitation, one that was unnoticeable to all but Lance himself before he clipped the handcuffs in.

Keeping a hand on the cuffs, Lance let the gifted stand up by himself, and made a note not to let the gifted too close to the scientist. Again, Lance didn't know for sure if the gifted was the vengeful type, but he could never be too safe. He'd seen his fair share of similar situations where the subject would strike out, after all, and Lance stayed on guard.

Lance prepared to lead the gifted out.

Kadvar flinched when the cuffs were places on him, and fidgeted his hands until the cuffs were higher up his arms. It took him a few moments to start moving his shuddering legs. Even while walking his legs were unsteady, a sign there was still adrenaline pumping through his veins. It wouldn't take too much more fear to burn someone. Because of this the fire gifted tried taking deep breaths to calm himself.

He let the guard lead him out without much resistance, ready to be out of the testing lab. Once they were out of the room though he slowed down. There wasn't much to look forward to except the hope he might get a chance to kick the scientist. He was hesitant to see Lucius again, soon enough they reached him though.

It did not take a genius to make the assumption that Kadvar may be upset with Lucius. Lucius had already been burned by Kadvar and humiliated in front of Verner because of Alex. He was not going to stick around for it to happen again. Even if Lance seemed to know what he was doing.

Kadvar was able to catch fire to things that he had no contact with and it seemed he was close to actually doing it. Having Lucius around could put him over the edge, even if he did not do anything.

"You know the way back, I think it is best if I say here and write up this paperwork." He said to Lance.

Lance nodded before turning and guiding the gifted quickly out the door. He had the feeling that his previous presumption was correct in that the scientist might have come to feeling the gifted's flames not too long ago. Merely judging by how quickly they were dismissed and the scientist's behaviour once Lance had exited the room with the gifted in tow, the evidence was falling into place. Though again, Lance might be mistaken. It wasn't terribly important information either, but he filed it away nevertheless.

Having exited Lab C-13, Lance then turned back to the gifted. He had noticed earlier that his steps had slowed once they had left the testing room, and Lance was on good grounds to guess that the gifted wasn't looking forward to being put back in his cell. Lance had cuffed the gifted's hands behind his back to make him easier to keep in check if he tried anything, but Lance also realized that it wasn't the most comfortable set-up if the gifted warranted being carried.

Lance wasn't intending on uncuffing the gifted until he was safely in his cell, however. Nevertheless, he gave the gifted the option on how he would like to proceed.

"Would you like to be carried?" Lance asked.

What he needed to do was escape, and the test today only put escaping even higher on his priority list. If he stayed here he would go insane. He was done with these tests, he was done with the Labs, he was done with his bleeding arm  wait bleeding arm? He was bleeding? He couldn't get too good a look with his arms slightly behind him, and he had only caught a glimpse of it while looking back at Lance. Only now he was beginning to feel pain where a bullet had damaged his lower left arm.

"I'm bleeding!" The gifted began to worry and started feeling pain. "Is it bad? Oh, I'm going to die aren't I?" The wound really only began bleeding about now. Sure the bullet had done a little damage, but the gifted seemed to be overreacting. The bullet hadn't done any critical damage. The chances of him dying were awefully slim. He tried reading Lance's expression unsuccessfully, "It is bad. Isn't it?"

The worst injuries he dealt with before were nicks from a bread knife. It became apparent the gifted thought he was seriously injured. "Send a letter to my parents, tell them I died in my sleep or something. Tell Alex I somehow burned myself to death. Oh, and tell Lucius he canâ€â€" The next words he said weren't so nice. He was still very cross with the scientist, this injury was his fault after all.

Lance had to keep a still face as he blinked, slightly taken aback by the gifted's outburst. His gaze dropped to the nick and back up to the gifted's face. Seeing as it only started bleeding now and judging by how shallow it was, it couldn't be life threatening.

"No, you're fine," Lance said in an attempt to calm the gifted down. "It's just a scratch, it will heal over quickly. It should stop bleeding within a few moments."

Lance could tell the gifted was rather distraught from the cut, and he guessed he could see why. He did, however, think the gifted was overreacting. While he was trying his best to console the gifted, it didn't mean he had loosened his grip any so.

"That's what you tell a dying person!" Lance's words didn't make his injury hurt any less. Of course neither did him panicking about it. The position his arms were in made his injury feel worse and he shifted his arms slightly. He couldn't see the wound, but it really wasn't that bad. A bandaid or two could probably cover the scratch. Unwilling to handle the subpar medical attention of it will stop bleeding soon, he began complaining. "You can't do nothing! What if it gets infected?"

In his own mind his injury felt far worse. He didn't think or know he was exaggerating.

Lance sighed resignedly, a quiet breath that was inaudible past the gifted's ruckus. Keeping one hand on the gifted's cuffs, Lance reached his other into a pocket on his belt and procured a gauze pad. Peeling the covering off with little difficulty, Lance told the gifted to hold still and pressed the patch onto his arm so it covered the miniscule scratch.

"It's not that bad," Lance repeated calmly. In putting the bandaid on Lance was aiming to have the gifted realize it was a very small, very minor cut. It probably would have been fine on its own, but Lance had the feeling the gifted wasn't going to stop bawling until he did something on the spot. Of course, he should have rinsed the cut with water before he put the patch on if they wanted to go by the books, but it was more a placebo effect than anything else.

"You will be fine," Lance said. He didn't see how the gifted would be able to hurt anything with a gauze pad, but again he could just take it off before he let the gifted back in his cell.

Realizing how small the cut actually was he seemed truly embarrassed. He really had made a fool of himself. It wasn't like it didn't hurt, typically a bullet travelling more than a thousand mph would. Having at least something covering the wound comforted him a little bit. Although he embarrassed himself he didn't regret his comment about Lucius at all.

Kadvar was done for the day and just wanted to go back to his cell. He didn't dare ask the guard to carry him, worried it would only make his cut feel worse. The gifted moved forward in shame and didn't talk much more.

His task done, Lance walked the gifted down the hallway without another word. It was a small success to have gotten the gifted to come to terms with the reality of his plight, and it wasn't a bad thing at all now that the subject was complacent.

They arrived at the fire gifted's cell without any further difficulty. Lance briefly considered stripping the gauze pad from the gifted's arm, but in the end decided if he did it would most likely result in another scene. The gifted probably felt better about the cut if he kept the bandaid on. And besides- the fire gifted couldn't have any blood-borne disease it could contract or spread due to the nature of the lab, and Lance saw any potential danger in keeping the patch on as very unlikely.

Opening the door to the cell, Lance deposited the gifted inside. Removing the cuffs, Lance retreated, leaving the gifted alone in the cell. He clipped the handcuffs back where they belonged, putting the gauze pad's wrap into a pocket to be disposed of later.

Taking a cursory glance to make sure he hadn't missed anything, Lance turned, ready to return to Lab C-13.

Alex was sitting on the floor, his legs crossed. He traced lines on the ground with his finger, kinda wishing for the crayons Kadvar had. That was the problem with getting all the things in your cell removed. You then had nothing to do.

He glanced up when the door opened. He expected to see a gurney like always but was pleasently suprised to see that Kadvar could at least walk on his own. He was totally soaked though and Alex was sure he wasn't happy about that. The could have least given him a towel or something.

"Congratulations, you managed to bring someone back stillconscious!" Alex said.

Lance had been about to leave the cell block when the voice of one of the gifteds stopped him. Pausing, Lance tilted his head slightly as the gifted spoke to him, holding his gaze steadily. On the other side of the cell wall was a lanky, blonde male with green eyes and a biting tone of voice. Lance placed his age as somewhat younger than him, four years at most. He noted that the gifted's room was stripped to the bare minimum.

Allowing him to finish, Lance turned and departed once the gifted had no more to add. His face had stayed perfectly stoic for the entirety of the gifted's words, and he left silently, giving no clue as to his thoughts or emotions. Heading back the way he came, Lance retraced his steps and disappeared down the hallway.

"Well that was rude," the guard had completely ignored Alex and had walked off wordlessly. He rubbed his wrists as always and tried to wring the water from his clothes. Really they could have given him something to dry off with, the water in his clothes made him feel awefully cold.

Kadvar still felt shooken up from his test. Between his cold clothes and his memory of that test, it would be a miracle if he slept at all tonight. "We really need to get out of here," he spoke only once the guard was long gone, and he faced away from any cameras.

The fact that a bullet had grazed him was a horrifying thought, he had hardly moved! What if he had moved too quickly? What if he had moved a little more to the left? Really he shouldn't worry of what could have happened, but he needed something to focus all this stress on. The fire gifted seemed far more troubled than usual.

Lab Rats (Gifted Roleplay)
Setting

All the characters are at a lab in a remote island. All the guards and scientists live in buildings around the lab. Most of the lab is under ground. The lab is very guarded and is pretty much impossable to excape from. There are rooms of about five Gifteds all in their own cell, but they are able to see each other and speak to each other.

Plot

In our world, we expect we all have the same kinds of abilities, we can all do the same things, it all just depends on what you practice. However that believe is wrong, there are people born with strange, fantastic and even dangerous powers known as Gifteds. It doesn't matter if the parents are Gifted, the children produced seem to be randomly Gifted or non-Gifted.

Of course normal people fear the Gifteds, they are stronger than them, more dangerous than them and they have no way of knowing who is who. That's why when people learned of them the hunt for Gifteds started almost immediately.

The caught Gifteds were sent away to a place only known as 'The Labs' where they are experimented on to find their weaknesses and their strengths. Their final goal is to find a way to control them and use them for wars.
