Lucius had not heard the person enter the room and he was slightly startled when the guard started speaking. He hated that the lab room's desk was set up in a way that his back was to the door. He had asked if he could move it, but they did not allow him to.
Lucius liked the sound of this new arangment. It was annoying to have to wait around for a guard and most of the time they were idiots. However if he ended up stuck with someone who was a moron he would have to ask for someone else dispite his request that he didn't.
"So who is the person I have been assigned to?" He asked.
Bringing that poor kid over to this place meant he would not be allowed to ever leave. That meant he had to have a job on the island. Since there were no schools are collages on the island, that meant he would not be able to learn to be anything that is that high paying.
By Nori bringing her child here, she was dooming him to be stuck as something like a janitor like her. Though it seemed like to Nori her job was the best in the world, Abie may not think so. Alex felt it was best to not voice this, Nori seemed to very much want her boy to be here with her.Â
"Do those bars really need to be looked over like that?" He said. "No one ever touches them and it is not like I throw food up there or anything. They aren't going to get dirty."
The official nodded, shifting slightly to the side to bring a smartly-clad, blonde-haired male into view. The guard had stayed still and silent, going unnoticed for the entirety of the exchange as he stood at attention.
"Your assigned guard is Lance Fost," the official said, indicating the young man standing just outside of the office with an incline of the head. Upon being named, Lance dipped his head in acknowledgement, his pale blue eyes keeping steady eye contact with the scientist.
"Dr. Lee," he greeted evenly after straightening.
"Security assignments should be completed sometime between the end of this month and the next," the official continued. "Feel free to contact us then if you feel a reassignment is in order."
With a professional smile, the official concluded with, "If you have any pressing questions, I can answer them now."
"I am sure that the e-mail you spoke of will answer any questions I may have." Lucius said. Hopefully Lance knew what he was doing since the man had said he was a 'qualified individual'. However one would think all the quards here would be qualified. A huge amount of money was spend on this place, you would think they would take the time to hire people that weren't morons.
Since it had been a few hours since he and Verner had done the test with Duncan and Alex, he had quite a while to do both his papers and some planing for the rest of the day. He wouldn't do anything with Alex again today since he was most likely just waking up now.Â
He did have an idea with Kadvar though. He was definately someone Lance needed to be briefed about. Lucius did not want to find himself on fire again simply because Lance did not know about how the fire gifted was so touchy with weapons.
Lucius saved what he was working on before he stood up and pushed his seat in at the desk.
"I do have some gifteds I am assigned to that are on the more dangerous side." He explained. "One of them has been known to catch things on fire when he is around weapons, so it is best to not let him see them even when in the cell room." He warned.
Lucius walked to the door of the lab and opened it. He could send Lance out on his own to get Kadvar, however Lucius did not feel like waiting around for him to find the place when he could easily show him. He had been sitting for a long time anyway.
"He's the one I need next."
The official nodded. Satisfied that all pressing matters had been covered, the official dismissed himself with a "Good day, Dr. Lee," departing as quickly as he came and leaving Lance in his wake.
As Lucius stood from his desk, Lance shifted, sensing he was to be addressed. He listened, before nodding, shifting his taser to his back and out of sight. It still remained within reach, but would have been unnoticeable even upon a closer inspection, being invisible from the front or sides and hard to see from the back.
Lance had noticed earlier that the lab coat Lucius wore was rather new, and while he hadn't thought much about it then, he had the budding suspicion that its condition and the scientist's cautionary words were somehow linked. The scientist had brought up the fire gifted in particular, and while the reason may have simply been that the gifted was due to be tested on, Lance had good reason to think otherwise. Lab coats tended to be rather flammable, even if one had bad aim.
Filing the thought away for later, Lance nodded once more to indicate that he understood the scientist's needs before falling into step behind him. Only meeting the fire gifted would provide anything conclusive. If the gifted was only triggered by the presence of a weapon, it must have been quite the fire show.
Kadvar backed away from his cell door the moment he spotted Lucius and a guard. He didn't want to be the next one to be brought back in a gurney and began acting more defensive than usual. There was still a desk chair in the room he could use, and eyed it for a moment clearly thinking about grabbing it. He didn't have a record of attacking guards or exhibiting aggressive behavior. The country he was from wasn't a very violent one and that wasn't how he was raised. Sure he had a fight or two before the labs but it wasn't in his nature.
He decided against grabbing the desk, if he provoked the guard into using a weapon someone could be seriously burned. Instead what he decided he would do was when the guard cuffed him, he would lean all his weight against the guard to keep him from moving.
Oh who was he kidding, he grabbed the desk chair and raised it defensively. Losing the chair wouldn't really be a loss he had a bed to sit on. He would be hesitant to actually harm the guard though as he was a civilian at heart.
Lance didn't waste any time vegetating at the door, stepping into the cell quickly. The cell contained a lightly-built, brown-haired male, and a few pieces of furniture. While he had seemed harmless enough, it became quickly apparent that he didn't intend on leaving too easily. Lance had the feeling the gifted wasn't very keen on using his makeshift weapon, as he had detected the minute hesitation before the chair had been picked up.
Lance wasn't going to take his chances, however, and he crossed the room briskly but cautiously. He didn't want to do anything that might alarm the gifted enough to get him to throw or swing the chair- or light it on fire. Lance slowed his steps as he neared, calmly holding the gifted's gaze.
"Please put down the chair," he said in a reasonable, even tone. While he hadn't raised his voice in intimidation, there was no denying the quiet sense of power underlying his softspoken words.
The scientist had told him the gifted was triggered by the use of weapons, but Lance didn't want to find out just yet if the gifted also got spooked by contact. Lance kept his hands out at his sides, palms up and in the line of the gifted's vision, showing that he didn't have a taser.
At the same time, however, Lance wasn't going to spend too much time imploring the gifted to comply peacefully. He did have a job to do, and it was unfortunate if the gifted didn't want to comply. This would be the gifted's only chance, and Lance hoped he would take it.
Kadvar was afraid to go with Lucius and felt he had reason to be. He had brought gifteds back in gurneys three times in a row, and had tortured Alex's brother who to his understanding was only a kid. The last test done on him had been terribly stressful, and Lucius had asked about his wrists during those tests. His thought was what if he planned on cutting them open or do even harsher testing than last time?
He backed away from the guard until he had cornered himself. "Stay back!" He swung the chair in warning. Never before had he attacked a guard, and he began feeling panicked and fearful. This wouldn't end well at all. Hopefully he wouldn't burn anyone.
Lance sprung into action without a moment's delay. Darting to the side to avoid the swing, Lance's foot came down on one of the chair's legs, pinning it to the ground and bringing it out of the gifted's hands. 'Stay back' unfortunately wasn't something Lance could do at the moment.
The chair sliding out of the gifted's reach with a push from Lance's leg, the guard unclipped the pair of handcuffs from his belt and locked the gifted's hands into place. Lance brought the gifted off of the wall with a hand on his back, the entire ordeal having gone quickly enough that it would have appeared to have happened in an instant. Quick- hopefully quick enough that the gifted would only feel disorientated and not threated. Lance hadn't laid a finger on the gifted save for the touch on his hands as he slipped the cool metal cuffs over his wrists.
The speed at which Lance had acted was enough to alarm Kadvar. Fortunately for both of them the whole ordeal was over rather quickly. He was certain had it gone on any longer he would have burned someone.
As soon as the cuffs were placed on him he shifted them away from his wrists. They had much more nerve endings than what was typical, making them one of, if not the most sensitive part of his body. As soon as the guard tried to get him moving he shifted all of his weight backwards making himself much more difficult to budge.
Hopefully this guard knew he couldn't tase him to get moving by now. Even with the cuffs his ability could activate, albeit they made it less likely and would delay his ability. Just in case he gave him not a threat but a warning, "Tase me and you burn."
Lance sighed mentally. Not a breath escaped him, however, and his face didn't betray his thoughts in the slightest. While he definitely doubted the gifted's aim, he took the comment seriously nevertheless.
Sweeping one of the gifted's feet out forward and giving the gifted a firm push on the small of his back, the combined efforts of the two movements shifted the gifted's weight enough to unbalance him. Not nearly enough to throw the gifted to the ground, but definitely sufficient enough to send him forward.
The gifted's instincts would force him to catch himself before he fell- and while it would only be a few steps if Lance was lucky, it would still be enough working space for him to prompt the gifted to walk. Either way, if the gifted didn't react quick enough, Lance was ready to catch him.
Kadvar felt himself stumbling as his balance was thrown off. He was becoming stressed from this whole ordeal, not being used to being jostled around like this. Even in his home country he had never been treated so roughly! The fight or two he had been in as a kid were verbal, he wasn't use to protecting himself against physical assaults.
"Can you stop throwing me aboot?" Aboot? No, about! All this stress was getting to him, and he found it harder to repress his accent. It's not that his accent was far off from American though, there were only a few terms and pronunciations that were different.
He let himself grow limp after catching himself, at this point just delaying the inevitable, "Carry me would you?" He dreaded today's testing.
All the characters are at a lab in a remote island. All the guards and scientists live in buildings around the lab. Most of the lab is under ground. The lab is very guarded and is pretty much impossable to excape from. There are rooms of about five Gifteds all in their own cell, but they are able to see each other and speak to each other.
In our world, we expect we all have the same kinds of abilities, we can all do the same things, it all just depends on what you practice. However that believe is wrong, there are people born with strange, fantastic and even dangerous powers known as Gifteds. It doesn't matter if the parents are Gifted, the children produced seem to be randomly Gifted or non-Gifted.
Of course normal people fear the Gifteds, they are stronger than them, more dangerous than them and they have no way of knowing who is who. That's why when people learned of them the hunt for Gifteds started almost immediately.
The caught Gifteds were sent away to a place only known as 'The Labs' where they are experimented on to find their weaknesses and their strengths. Their final goal is to find a way to control them and use them for wars.
Lucius brought Nori and Alex for a test to see if Alex could heal Nori's sickness.
Alex was drugged in order to savely bring him back to his cell.
Kadvar told Alex his plans to excape by writing on a card and passing it to him.
Kadvar is dirtying his cell to try to attract Nori.

Please play as the minority group so we don't get overflowed with one type of character.
Please look at other characters and do not make Gifteds with a power someone already has.
All powers must have weaknesses. For example, most Gifteds will loose control of their ability while under stress.
Only one power for each Gifted.
Both guards and scientists carry weapons, but scientists will only use them if a guard isn't around.
No killing without permission.
