Malvada was about to grab Midnight from the males grasp but then had to brace herself against the mini quake as best as she could, she was amazed at the force the little chick had for being so young yet and that she practically defeated the male just like that without virtualy any help. Once the quake passed she turned towards Midnight and quickly walked over towards her, the caved in den made her worry just as much, even though they were not her chicks. Malvada gently nudged Midnight in the side hoping there wern't any broken bones from the way she was thrown.
Celestia looked over her chicks, once she had looked after the various injuries and comforting, she remarked "Looks like it's time to move into the big burrow den. And find out more about that prophecy..." What she hadn't added was it was close to the clearing where the chicks were conceived, but that wasn't anybody else's concern. The scents of that were long gone, Celestia started walking saying "You three wanted to be outside just stay under me so the birds of prey won't have a go at you." She remarked to Malvada "My mother always told me that young chicks can make strange things happen. But what Midnight did there I've never heard of it. I'll have to ask..." Celesttia showed her chicks what plants and animals were edible and what wern't, animal tracks, medicinal plants, and many other things along the walk...
Skye listened to her mother only straying from under her mother's belly when there was cover. Skye even found some pretty rocks, interesting bits of wood and feathers that she wanted to show her family when the got to the den. She carried the items in her wings pleased with her findings, she planned to share and try her paw ar making toys. She then found a bone that came from a smallish mammal and added that along with bits of fur, those fish scales and that snake skin she'd found. Skye was having fun looking around asking her mother questions about everything she saw.
Midnight fallowed silently. A million questions rushed through her head. How did I do that? Why did I do that? How come I keep felling like I'm someone else? Did that dream have anything to do with it? Could I do that again? Why couldn't Skye or Oak do that? Should I ask mom? Malvada? Oak? Skye? Should I... she shook her head I frustraition. She was only a few days old? How could she take down a full grown male dragon? Midnight looked around. Oak was wandering off, Skye was asking their mom quistons, and what was she doing? Wishing I was like them and hadn't done whatever I just did. She thought angerly at herself.
Malvada was trailing behind Celestia and her chicks, she was amused at Skye, she just kept rattling off questions she was rather amused by it, out of the corner of her eye she then she caught sight of Oak wandering around, quickening her pace to get next to him she gently nudged him back in the right direction so he wouldn't get lost or maybe even worse, she feared the thought. It would be such a shame to loose one of them, they really are precious all in there own ways... she said silently to herself as she walked next to Celestia and her younglings.
Celestia's family was a mixed bag and her little ones were the same Skye was asking questions which was an indicator of intelectual ability, Oak was the bold one, Midnight was brooding and acted more like a fledgling than a toddler, the 'chosen one'. Celestia had to get her paws on that prophecy. She looked up at the sky, the sun was going down and the stars were waking up. Ever since the humans had been almost entirely wiped out the stars had returned as the Earth regained what it lost according to Celestia's grandmother. Celestia started telling her chicks and Malvada stories about the constilations that were appearing, she also told stories about the animals that came out at night, and stories of the moon and sun. Her family's chick rearing methods were actually how it was done in the far north, most life dragons let chicks figure everything out on their own while keeping them safe, shadow dragons seemed apathetic bordering cruel. After leaving home they were on their own...
Malvada listened to Celestias words intently and with sheer amazement, there was so much of this stuff she was never taught or has never figured out on her own, but of course why would she have been taught it. She shook her head, no she wasn't going to let her past interupt what Celestia was saying, it was facinating to her and she wanted to learn more, so she just randomly started asking questions "What would happen if the star exploded though? I mean would it just vanish or would it distroy the other stars around it? and how do constalations get there names, some of them sound so complicated..."
Oak listened to his mother, almost obsesively, determined to do better than his sister, Skye, in the only catergory she seemed to excel in: Thought. He would memorize this, and he would beat her. WHen she slipped up, Oak would know the answer. Oak would have run out from under his mother, into the night, but that would have given Skye to much of an advantage. He heard one of Malvada's questions, and began to ponder it, drowning out his mother. What would happen? And why were the stars so small? They were like fire, but where did they get the fuel? Speaking of that, where did the sun get fuel? What if the sun (He knows of the sun, he's Yang, remember?) ran out of fuel? Would it always be night? Oak shuddered at the thought. He couldn't stand the night. It was too quiet, to soft almost... And Oak didn't like the moon either. He wasn't afraid of it, it just didn't feel... It felt wrong. Oak felt wrong, standing there in the moonlight, even though he was under his mother.
Celestia replied "I don't know that you'd have to ask one of the few remaining humans. I remember the Sun is as star the closest one to Earth, and that there are seven other planets going around the Sun the same way the Moon goes around the Earth. Day and night one half of the world is day the other night." She kept looking up "Humans are rare now, their creations lay in ruins. Earth reclaimed itself from them. The humans of the far north actually live side by side with our kind. Once before humans took the Earth as their property, it is said that dragons could transform into humans, like the kitsune do, and lived among the humans even worshipped. But humans turned on us and all creatures that they could not control they almost wiped us out. But we dragons hid away waiting for the humans to fall." Celestia gestured to the den, large enough to accomidate several dragons, it had taken her months to dig it... "As generations pass dragon kind has lost the knowledge of the past, the shadow dragons in my family live by the concept that family and knowledge are things that can help one attain great power. Well educated protected chicks will often help one in later years. Affection and genuine love stregnthen family ties making one's power grow. Many things that most dragons see as weakness and coddling in the long run pay off..."
Skye looked skyward amazed, she knew Oak would turn this into a competition but she found joy in learning. She asked questions and considered herself lucky to have a mother so full of information. Skye wanted to live in peace and become a wise and smart she dragon. Skye knew she was safe with her mother around. When she went inside she started showing her siblings what she'd found. She spotted something shiny in the den floor and dug it up a small crystal and added it to the 'cool stuff ' I found collection. Skye was proving to be a treasure collecting dragon who didn't mind sharing with her family. Which was needless to say odd. Sky was happy go lucky but a little meek when she was around familiar dragons.
Malvada nodded accepting the fact that Celestia didn't know what was kept secret to the humans, then she turned towards the cave that was meant to hold several dragons at a time, it was huge! Probably the largest one she has ever seen in her entire life, she walked inside to check it out and she snooped around investigating it, it was in really good shape for as old as she thought it was, she turned and stood looking out of the cave enterance This thing is just huge!! she thought quietly to herself that was followed by a whispered "wow.."
Midnight hung back, not ready to disssappeare into the whole in the earth. She felt right under the beutiful stars and they gave her hope and streanght. She hadn't listened to her mother, which was odd, but instead had wondered into her own world. She and her siblings were close, but wern't sibblings supposed to be? Still, the seemed closer than normal. Skye and Oak seemed to have a slight rivalry, and midnight accepted that. They blanced each other out, and midnight was the thing that insured that. I wonder if they have figured that out? she wondered, finnaly going into the den.
Oak ran through the cave, hugging the sides, as fast as he could. He hoped there were tunnels to explore. Why, Skye was almost right about learning being fun, as long as it was voluntary. There didn't appear to be any tunnels yet. What, had Celestia dug this cave by herself!?! Suddenly, Oak remebered that she said she had. Oak looked around, and noticed a small animal, eating something off of the cave floor. It was slimy, and kind of like a bug, and gross. That gave him a wonderful idea! He picked it and hid it behind is folded up wing, waiting for when their mother brought food in, prefferably a carcass to share between all of them... ((Wulfraptor, please play along with this, don't have Celestia see the look on his face or something))
Celestia noticed her son, caught a whiff of it, and said to him quietly "Save it for later it's time for bed. Or better yet add the bug to your sister's collection that would still gross your sisters out but they won't hold it against you." Celestia grinned "Mischif is not done at meal time or bed time, it's more likely to cause anger than annoyance." Celestia bedded down and kept her chicks close. A mother could gain power from being around her chicks. A mechanism that enabled better protection, but males didn't like it when the female they're courting is more powerful than they are beyond a one night stand. So by hiding that part away when there are no chicks, finding a mate is easier.
Malvada smiled to herself as she watched Oak, he was so myschievous and a little trouble maker, she chuckled to herself and started to walk in a small circle several times in the same spot inside the cave next to the cave wall before she finally curled up and layed down, she covered her body  over with her wings almost like a big blanket, it was something she had figured out to do that helped to conserve body heat when you were at rest. Like most of the things she knew, she had found that out on her own simply by a game of chance.
