Oh. My bad. Didn't know. I guess Arya and Firnen themselves would have to do it.
Seth neared a statue with Shadowed. "Itls Eragon and Saphira," he said. Shadow looked on in awe. Shadowed noticed another statue. Seth saw it too. "That is Linnea and Arget," said a voice. Seth turned to see a seventeen year old boy climb off of his white dragon. "Wh are you?" Seth asked. "Randy," said the boy. "This is my partner Ghost," he said. "How do you do?" the white dragon spoke. Seth could hear him with his mind. "This is Shadow and I'm Seth," said Seth. "The new kid," said another voice. They turned to see Angelica and Angel. "Just got back Randy?" she asked. "Yeah," said Randy. "Those dungeon people killed two of mmy guards and injured Sarah and Aiden," said Randy. Seth looked down at Shadow. He couldn't let Shadow get hurt.
Arya spoke again to Linnea later on "There's a new rider I wanted you to see. His dragon is black..." Linnea finished "And you think I'll train him for that reason?" "No but I was still hoping you'd at least take a look and help decide who would be best for the boy." Linnea sighed and Arget spoke up "We'll do that, but if we like him we'd have to handle two classes at once. Speaking of the class our current students have just met Murtugh. We'd better keep him and..." Arget hissed as he said the name "Thorn... from bothering them." Arget's hatred of Thorn was not without reason Thorn had been cruel to him in the past trying to 'toughen him up'. Arget held that grudge for over a thousand years, and when Murtugh treated his rider poorly that was it. He'd had a go at Thorn and actually won. Linnea just healed her partner and said nothing, Arget had felt provoked enough to do it and she trusted him enough to let him away without a scolding. Linnea babied the dragon most of the time, but he'd grown up. Linnea was a nurturer, teacher, healer, and only when provoked a warrior. Linnea had tried to soothe her partner's hatred ever since it developed. Linnea was forgiving and compassionate Arget was the vengeful one. He tried to show his rider's compassion concerning the older dragon who had suffered under Galbatorix's control, but he found it difficult to unbend his pride and let the hatred go. Linnea unarmored her partner and swung onto the saddle using a strap. "Farewell your Majesty, I'll do as you have asked later. One of my former students might take him on, Him and Ghost have been considering taking on an apprentice." When Linnea arrived Roselin was rubbing her father who was growling about it and projecting the statement "Roselin you cannot afford to be so affectionate to others, it ill becomes you as one of my chicks." Linnea watched Murtugh looking her students over and adressed her students "I'm back, so enough goofing off." Murtugh looked apologetic and spoke quietly to Linnea, "So you see me as a cruel man. Thorn and I have been harsh to you both, but you cannot afford to be so weak." Linnea's eyes softened "Compassion is what you both need, a bit of understanding. I'd forgotten that." "Compassion is weakness." "No it's not, compassion helps me to heal the hurt, it keeps the heart warm and alive. Coldness cripples the heart and leaves a person nothing more than a empty shell." "We're too far gone for you to try to fix. The day I met Galbatorix I was too far gone, When Thorn hatched he was lost as well." Arget let himself feel his rider's compassion as best he could but he still hated Thorn and wondered how Roslin could be so sweet to him.
When Thorn grabbed his rider and left Linnea taught her students about the Chinese riders and their dragons. "Now The Chinese dragons tend to see their rider as a servant rather than a partner though the rider is granted the longevity we have, they look very different from our local dragons, being serpent like with manes, antlers, and in mature specimens deer like external ears. They can fly without wings but don't breath fire. A Chinese dragon binds their rider to them self not as a newborn chick but still in their mother's care. The only humans they'll listen to are those in high positions. Some do get attached to their rider and start to consider their rider as more than a servant. Their riders are often referred to as servant by the dragons. The old spells that forged the bonding process of us Aligasian riders doesn't exist there. The Chinese dragon will survive when their rider is killed. They may mourn but they may also take a series of unbound servants. Needless to say they live decadently and prefer to eat delicacies like roast swan fish and seafood rather than hunt for their food. Still they are formidable opponents and not to be taken lightly. The Chinese and the dragons they served sought to conquior as much of the world as possible resulting in the first world Dragon War. Many riders and dragons from around the world were killed. My Erbithal Eragon helped restore peace with various treaties, Some Chinese riders are being trained by one or two Riders in Aligasia, and vice versa as per the agreements. I almost took one pair as my student but the dragon flat out rejected us because we weren't worthy in her eyes... Not so little snob..." Linnea's students started laughing and Linnea turned to see that the same dragon who had deemed Arget and herself unworthy had just landed with her 'servant' who elbowed the now grown dragon and whispered "We must mind our elders Lin, remember?" Linnea gestured to the dragon and said simply "There's the not so little snob right there. Chinese dragons are vocal and telepathic." The dragon Lin huffed and rolled her pretty eyes opal like scales shining in the light. Arget just stared at the Chinese pair with a 'behave yourselves' look on his reptilian face. Linnea continued "This particular individual has five claws and is known as an Imperial dragon. Her partner was in training to be a shaolin monk." Linnea then asked the bowing teenager "Did you finish monk training on the side Fang?" "Yes, I am now a monk and a rider. Are you teaching them Sifu Linnea?" "Yes, these are my students; Sweet Sophia the human with the lovely partner Roslin, Vanir the elf Garvolz the urgal and their partners the twins, and Hiverda the dwarf standing beside young Gladier over there." Four different greetings were uttered and Sophia had decided to try to touch Lin's whiskers. Lin jerked her head out of the girl's reach. Sophia said "You're really pretty miss Lin." Lin beemed and smiled while prancing around at the praise. "Sophia has given the rest of you a prime example of how Chinese dragons react to compliments..." Lin was a particularly vain individual...
Randy and Angelica showed Seth around. Seth learned that Angelica and Randy were actually brother and sister. He learned that Randy was also a former student of Linnea. Ghost was actually Angel's father. They all stopped at a workshop. "This is where Rhunon works and will forge you a sword," said Randy. A messenger came to Randy. "Linnea wants you to take up a new apprentince," he said. Randy smiled and turned to Seth as the messenger left. "Looks like you just got a temporary master," he said. Seth looked at Angelica and then at Shadow. Shadow mewed happily. Seth smiled and turned to Randy. "That's fine with me, but I still want to meet Linnea," he said. Shadow nodded and flicked his tail. Angel rubbed up against him. "Let's take him to her," said Angelica.
Randy climbed onto Ghost's back. "Wait! How am I supposed to go with you?" Seth asked. Angelica whistled. A large, purple dragon flew from the buildings and landed near them. He was bigger than Ghost, but smaller than Saphira. "Wolfsbayne can get us there," she said with a smile. Seth was amazed. "I am Wolfsbayne, Johnny Matthus's dragon," thought the dragon. "Where is he?" Seth asked. "In the void," said the dragon, sadly. "How did you cope?" Seth asked. "It took me at least fifteen years to recover," thought the dragon. Shadow and Angel climbed onto Wolfsbayne's back. The large dragon laughed. Seth chuckled and climbed onto the dragon's back. Angelica did too. "Let's fly!" Randy exclaimed. Ghost roared. Wolfsbayne roared too, sending echoes through the city. The two dragons flew into the air. "Whoa!" yelled Seth. "Firt timer!" exclaimed Angelica. The dragons flew off.
Linnea saw her old students and what must have been the new rider. A boy older than Sophia with a newly hatched dragon. Linnea greeted them after unsaddling Arget, Fang did the same for Lin who rolled her shoulders. Roslin fluttered up into the air and rubbed her nose on Lin's whiskers. Lin giggled revealing why she didn't let Sophia touch them earlier. They were ticklish! Fang for his part smiled and rubbed Lin's leg, the brands that showed his dedication to the teachings of the monks visible on his arms. (Fang is a Chinese name and the monks actually branded themselves to show their dedication) How a modest man and a decadent dragon could bond confused Linnea at times. But then again Arget was capable of hatred when Linnea didn't have an ounce of hatred in her. Linnea spoke to her former students while her current students badgered the monk and chinese dragon with questions. Lin was actually patient with the kids which surprised Arget. Arget spoke to Fang "Does she like younglings or something?" Fang answered "Both of us like children, had I not decided to become a monk I'd have married a girl and had at least one child by now." "Try teaching then." "I will discuss it with Lin later."
Seth and Shadow climbed down from Wolfsbayne. Angelica grabbed Angel and leaped down. Seth had finally met Linnea and her dragon Arget. Shadow walked up to Arget, not once stumbling over his wings. Angel followed. Randy and Ghost walked over to Linnea. "I need you to check on Sarah and Aiden," said Randy. "They're injured from the fights," said Randy sadly. Ghost and Wolfsbayne greeted Arget. Seth was grabbed by Angelica and taken to the Chinese dragon "Wow," said Seth, amazed to finally see a Chinese dragon. Shadow sniffed Arget and mewed, not like a baby, but with dignity and confidence. Shadow was trying to impress the dragon. Seth bowed in front of Linnea and her students. "I'm Seth McClain and this is my partner Shadow Nightscales," he said. Shadow nodded and puffed out his chest. Seth held back a chuckle. Randy laughed as well as Ghost and Angelica. Angel shook her head. Shadowed then uttered his first growl, some how silencing them all. "Nice one," said Seth.
Linnea greeted the group and remarked about the strange growl, reminded her of something. Arget looked amused and told the chick to enjoy being a chick. The new kid had some manners Randy would fix that. Linnea checked up on the injured riders and found them being healed arcanely. The dragons were being treated in a courtyard large enough to accommodate them. She'd left Arget behind to continue the lessons in her stead but brought her sword, the runes on the blade meant Hope. Linnea and Arget had been the first ones trained by Eragon and represented at the time hope for the future. Her current set of students still had some time before they were ready to face the world on their own. On the way back she felt uneasy her battle instincts kicked in and her eyes darted about at inhuman speeds. Every nerve was tingling waiting for something. She'd deal with it before she returned to her students. She mentally screened the at the time empty streets and alleyways. Three blocked minds and she was onto them. "Show yourselves! If you don't I'll go in after you." Three men walked out of the shadows and started to circle her. One had a gun, another a daggger and the third had a sword. Linnea was warded against bullets and was more than capeable of handling the three. When she drew her sword the three bolted in fear. They knew a rider when they saw one and knew better than to screw with her. Things had changed since last time she was in Farthen Dur. The streets were safer back then...
Seth watched as Shadow and Angel followed Arget around. Shadow stayed in his new confident form. Angel seemed relaxed. Randy and Ghost stayed nearby. As did Angelica. Suddenly, Wolfsbayne, who had been sleeping, roared. Ghost did too, followed by Arget and the rest of the dragons. Shadow growled and his hackles rose. Angel hid behind him as three men came running by. One had a sword, another had a gun, and the other had a dagger. Seth saw fear in their face. Ghost stopped them with Wolfsbayne. The three men cowarded. Randy leaped from Ghost's back and took out his sword who's name was Spirit. He held the tip to the man with the gun's neck as Ghost growled. Seth then heard a roar in the sky, followed by another. Seth and Shadow looked up to see a green dragon followed by a blue dragon. The two landed. Seth saw that it was Firnen. He and the others were astounded to see Saphira and her rider Eragon. Thorn and Murtagh joined as well. Arya leaped from Firnen's back. Seth watched as Eragon leaped to the ground.
Eragon drew his sword, the famous Brisingr, and made his way to the three men. Saphira followed. Seth got to one knee. Saphira nodded at him and kept going. Arya and Firnen made their way pass too. Arya had Tamerlein drawn. Seth stayed down. Shadow mewed at Firnen, who responded with a friendly growl. Murtagh and Thorn passed, Zar'roc drawn. Murtagh looked down at Seth. Seth kept his head down. Murtagh smirked and kept going. Thorn looked down as well. Shadow got in front of Seth and growled. Thorn, who was shocked, backed away an inch and then growled. Shadow stood his ground, but Seth picked him up and stood by Roslin. Randy backed away as Eragon approached. Angelica stood next Seth, Angel in her arms. "And what do we have here?" asked Eragon. The three men began to shake. "Two wanna be assasins or thieves," said Randy. Shadow leaped from Seth's arms and ran over to Eragon. Eragon noticed the hatchling and smiled. Seth approached him. Eragon picked up and handed him Shadow, chuckling from the growls.
Linnea saw her Erbathals and saw those same punks from earlier. "I thought I scared those three off." Lin and Fang were standing their ground, Lin glowering in distaste "Such filth in my presence..." Fang was holding a Jian sword. Arget said nothing but started picking through the mental defenses of the humans. Linnea did something that would normally be considered stupid in this sort of situation, she tried to crush the gun with a spell. She hit wards and almost cursed. Linnea worked on breaking the wards without the owner noticing. She had an amulet that prevented her mind and by extention Arget's as well. Lin lunged and was thrown into a wall but quickly recovered. The spells her particular kind of dragon used might be able to get past the wards without risk of detection. Fang had only his skills as a monk and the skills of a rider at his disposal. Eragon went for the gun with Brisinger and almost got shot. The bullet went bouncing off the walls and grazed Linnea's nose. Linnea ordered her current students and the untrained newbies to get out of the line of fire. The wards were being chipped away layer by layer. It was a revolver six shot so if she could just take out the round chambers or crush the barrel shut the gun would be useless. Linnea and Arget were trying to disable and capture their targets not kill them. They didn't know why all the other senior riders were there but they had students and untrained riders to protect.
Linnea watched as the bullet hit her Erbithal and ran over leaving Arget to protect the youngsters. Linnea was one of the best arcane healers there was. Stupid move luckily that kid's spell nailed the guy. Linnea drew the bullet out of Eragon's pectoral muscle. His wards had slowed the bullet and prevented further damage. She pulled out a potion that healed burns including gunpowder burns and put a drop in the wound. Murtugh had disarmed the other two men and froze them in place with a spell. Arya was checking everyone else. Linnea let the potion do it's job before healing the wound. "Thanks Linnea." "No trouble. Might wish to put stronger wards against bullets though." Sapphira said "If he doesen't I won't let him hear the end of it." "Thank you Erbithal Sapphira." Eragon muttered about women and she dragons always ganging up on him. Linnea saw Murtugh and Thorn roll their eyes. Murtugh showed no indication he'd listened to Linnea earlier and muttered "Women why can't they mind their own business?" Arget answered that "Then you'd be unshaven, smelly, and unmanageable. Not to mention possibly stupid." Thorn had a snarkey retort "The human has you trained fool." "At least she pampers me with relaxing scrub downs and tooth cleaning." "You let her clean your teeth? You are trained." "It was my idea not hers. I hate things between my teeth." Sapphira huffed "Is that all you two do? Argue?" Arget laughed "Erbithal that's the only time he talks at all. Thorn growled and Linnea looked over "You two arguing again?" Roslin looked up at the larger dragons and asked "Can you try to get along? You two are worse than Gladier and the twins." The twins glared and one said "We have names Oak and Jeff use them." "If you didn't smell different I wouldn't be able to tell you apart." Thorn asked Arget "Do they always squabble?" "Most of the time." "I pitty you, my students behave." "Then they just do it when you're not looking." Thorn just growled again.
Seth stood up. Angelica looked at him. "You ok?" she asked. "Just missing my mom," he said. "For some strange reason, she hates Dragons and Riders," he said. "Why?" asked Angelica. Seth shrugged. "I guess it was because of my dad," said Seth. "He owned a dragon and by dad's name was Seth Alvin McClain Sr.," said Seth. "What happened to him?" Angelica asked. "I don't know. I was only 8 months old when he apparently left," said Seth. Angelica was quiet. Shadow and Angel were looking up at Seth with big, questioning eyes. "I think I know why," said a voice. They turned to see Arya. "Your father knew me," she said. "He left because he was a Dragon Rider," she said.
Seth was stunned. He always thought that the dragon his mom told him about was a wild one turned pet. He never knew his own dad was a Dragon Rider. "Why would my mom hate riders?" he asked. "Because your father died in battle against the dungeon people," said Arya. Seth was too shocked. He thought his father died of natural causes. He never knew he died in battle alongside a bonded dragon. "That's why my mother was mad to hear that Shadow was bonded," said Seth. "She was afraid you would end up like your father," said Arya. Seth leaked a tear. Shadow and Angelica comforted him. His father had been killed. Killed by the dungeon people and their lizards. Seth then got mad. "When does my training start?" he asked. "Now why?" asked Arya. "Tell Randy to get ready," he said. "I'm taking down the leader of the dungeon people in six months!" he exclaimed, Shadow joining in.
