After the run in with Jonah Alex finished her survey and minus one cow she had her figures... Alex saw a puma headed for Jonah and in the pamphlet there was a self defense clause for wildlife 'ex: a bear attacks you you can kill the bear endangered or not. BUT it will be investigated.' Alex fired off a warning shot to scare the puma off and it worked. She thought 'you're welcome scum bag'. A roar sounded and unlike the male in her hotel this male dragon was in musth like an elephant he was hyper agressive and Alex knew she had to drive him off...

She went and saw a truely massive male dragon... And he saw her letting out a deep purr at the presence of a female a mature female... She shifted and displayed clear and blatent disinterest but he didn't care and grabbed her by the back of the neck... If Jonah was watching he'd realize full well a key difference between Nightling and Nightshade the scutes under the skin and scales a few layers of them. They had some spongey tissue between them and were meant specifically to deal with the teeth of other dragons... Also a great deterrent for swords, lances, spears, arrows, and so on.

Nightshade had baby spikes... Female dragons lose their adolescent spines when the scutes grew in... This male had ripped past the scales and was grinding his teeth right against the bone underneath... Alex remained perfectly calm and jerked her head down and then back suddenly jamming her head back and forcing his mouth open for her to get out of his mouth she charged up lightning and bit down over his nostrils firing right up for a painful shock that made him let out a growl of pain. Snouts were sensitive Nightling had scars on her snout indicating she knew this well. This male was trying to get a hold of her and have his way with her but she was not having it and kept inducing pure pain. She could kill him if she wanted to she had the sheer voltage. In his hormone addled brain it finally clicked messing with this one was a bad idea. Blood was dripping and Nightling found Fae for her neck...

Maiko was out hunting when she found the young dragon and just went about her day stalking a muscovy duck invasive species open for hunting normally they put up too much of a fight but what can you do? She took it out with a swift bite to the neck. She started dragging it off closer to town... It was a bird that weighed over five pounds for a maybe fifteen pound fox looked comical... She managed to drag it and shifted back. Her brother was not amused when he was waiting for her. "Is that dinner?" "Perhaps tomorrow. It will take some time to pluck..." Maiko went and started plucking the bird... She removed the head and they were going to have a duck stir fry the next day... Maiko made good time plucking and butchering the duck. She set it in the marinade for the night and kept some of the prettier feathers. She was going to make a hair piece out of it. Soji saw his sister doing her arts and crafts. She had these things... Soji said "When we work our restaurant you may wish to stick to traditional sort of attire." "Very well." Maiko had a nice night in after the hunt.

Nightshade sniffed the air and realized a male dragon was around but maybe was driven out, because the scent was not very strong, she looked around and found various other scents including Jonah's but he was pretty far from where she was so he was not a worry for a little. She sniffed around curiously 'I can't find a lot of shelter, maybe I might make my own...But not use fire or lightning' she thought as she remembered she almost caused a forest fire so she settled on looking some more, the shelter would be for when she was in dragon form because she was planning to see if she could find a job, she sighed and turned into her human form. Nightshade easily climbed a tall tree that rivialed the view when she was in her dragon form, she sighed and the wind blew through her hair, she also knew she had to get a name for her human form or else it would be easy to track her down if any other creatures knew the name that went for both forms. Nightshade looked around for any threats, she didn't remember her parents as she was on the streets at age four...So she didn't know them, or if she had any relatives, or siblings.

Alex had yet to recieve her payment from Jonah and she had lost money so she was ticked off. Nightshade the young female had clearly been abandoned and Alex hoped she'd struck a nerve when she mentioned to Jonah that it was pathetic to pick on a baby dragon like that. She couldn't have been older than twenty. Alex had Shadow with her at the moment watching some TV show... The male dragon from before was a stray and when Shadow hit that hormonal frenzy Alex knew how to curb it... Only happened about once a year so it wasn't much of a problem. The kitsune had taken a pest duck off her hands and she had duck breasts roasting in the oven... The town butcher and taxidermist had given her the cuts she requested. Nightling only weighed as much as a big bull elk over a ton She wasn't all that big for a mature female dragon of her age but she was born in a time of scarcity and hadn't gotten the explosive growth some young dragons enjoyed wasn't too late for that young female... She needed feeding up that much was clear. And work, and a home...

Jonah decided to give the money before he got in more hot water...Actually now that he thinks about it he is already is in super super boiling hot water. He amazingly got enough money from his own pocket and not stealing it, he has had a few previous jobs so he saved up a lot of the money, he shifted into human form and found where Alex/Nightling was by scent, he got a rubber band and strapped the money onto the doorknob silently, then he ran and after he was a good distance shifted into wolf form and sprinted into the forest as fast as he could in hopes of not being seen. He slowed down and sat, panting hard, he got up after resting and went to a water source, he drank some water; he jumped and spun around when he heard a stick crack, he snarled loudly out of

Instinct, he saw nothing and sat down at the water edge, watching the ripples as he lightly dragged his paw over the water's surface.

Alex recieved her money and put it away... She was still taking a loss but it wasn't as bad... The reserve was a special place and had everything the elk herd needed and even some wetlands for moose... She knew she had to find Nightshade again and at least give her a job... She hoped Jonah would start picking fights with adults instead of youngsters... She'd heard about Maiko and realized how comical it would be to see him have his butt handed to him by a little kitsune. Alex served out her duck but Shadow had gone to the diner... Ah well leftovers for lunch... Someone had booked the other master suite for the season and since she posted her totals there were actual bids this year and now that she had stables,horses, and sleds people would be bringing in more than just antlers or ears... Nightling was guilty of scavenging elk meat after the hunters... Alex had refused to allow motorized transport from anyone except an emergency crew out there... It was some of the most pristine forests even yellowstone had it's problems the more people allowed the more garbage accumulated... Alex had been sure to keep the place clean...

Nightshade got tired off being up in a tree, she jumped off and landed with incrediable grace and didn't seem to be affected by the fact she just jumped off of a very tall tree, she watched the area then started to walk around the forest, she came pretty close to the more settled area and paused, she then decided it would be wise to stay away for a while, she walked a good distance before turning into her dragon form again, she took a running start and jumped into the air, flapping her wings to get her off the ground, she flew around for a while until she came a cliff area, she landed on it and lay down for a rest, she was enjoying the view that came with being on a cliff side. She layed down her head while her eyes still searched the forest for threats, Nightshade watched a few birds higher up and the forest going on like normal, she thought she got Jonah's scent and lifted her head up, she got up into a sitting position and waited. She relaxed once she noticed Jonah was just sitting by some water peacfully, she enjoyed the feeling of the sun on her dark scales.

Alex was doing her finances when she got a knock on her door and it was a member of the US military and he said "Miss James I'd like to ask you to serve your country in a way. We want magical creatures in our army but with the federal government quietly ruling them citizens unlike with you previously we can't just pick them up. You are a member of the council we would like to float the idea of a recruitment office. We can only get volunteers." Alex invited him to sit down and pulled out a pad and paper taking notes and specifying that no inhumane experiments would be taking place and it was volunteers. She also mentioned the difference in the aging process for many different magical creatures that while they were capable of being adults by regular human form their bodies in their beastly form hadn't matured properly.

Alex for example was a mature female dragon. There were plenty of young werewolves looking to get out from under the alpha and do something productive. Most of the powerhouses like phoenixes, kitsune, and dragons would be unlikely to sign up and it was probably better that way given how slowly they reproduced. The major seemed to appreciate that it wasn't an absolute no. Alex handed him a list of questions the council would answer and she said "The elder kitsune Chikako can spot liars better than a polygraph claims their chakra changes when they attempt to decieve. She helps the police on a regular basis." "Sounds like a better option than Guantanamo bay... Never cared for 'enhanced interrogation' Doesn't really work but they keep ignoring that." "If they refuse to answer she can do nothing." She mentioned that the army would likely have to benifit the community and no they were not allowed to run any drills with motorized transport on her property. The Major said "You only allow people who benifit the community to run businesses or operations here?" "No but the community tends to follow the council's lead and we tend to prefer the benificial."

Maiko and her brother were seeing construction the next morning and saw some army guys shaking their heads no about the place... There was a strip mall with an opening that they were going to inquire about. Maiko noticed that besides the shenanagins of young weres the town was largely quiet and the reserve was expansive it was also closed down to magical creature antics during elk hunting season. She was discussing the garden with a kirin (Chinese unicorn basically) and the kirin Ling placed her imput. Feng shui was being observed and she was pleased to see a wide variety of people taking an interest in the town's future. Telecommuters provided stable income for the town but the hunting reserve provided an annual boon. A member of the military groused about not being able to purchase more than one elk licence that year...

Maiko commented to the man that he should be grateful that a dragon was willing to share her resources with him at all. He said "I want a trophy..." "If the restaurant would be ready in time we'd offer to buy the meat off you. It was a request that we use game meats as well as domesticated..." "Is the council really that important?" "They mediate desputes and issue permits... All but one is at very least a clerk at city council. Miss James seems to be the expert on the wilds and maintains her property to the point where hunters are required to thin the herds and other populations. If you were to hunt invasive species you would be allowed to hunt at your leisure. I caught a muscovy duck... It's for dinner in a stir fry tonight... Some griffins want to steal the property from Miss James thinking she can be voted out. It is illegal to do that so they cannot. They have become vocal about shutting your operations down and are making themselves a nusance to everyone but they have yet to commit an actual strike." "Is fight club legal?" "Not sure but there is a paramedic and a cop with a breathalizer on hand. Taking time out of their days and doing the work for free so it seems to be a sponsored activity." A werewolf cop said "We just do that to blow off steam we aren't allowed to bring disputes to the ring, show up drunk, bring booze, or wear shoes in the ring...."

Nightshade heard and smelled something going on, she launched from the cliff and flew towards the sounds, she was soon overhead and saw it was a military thing, she hoped she wasn't spotted but of course she was and she was quick to get away, she didn't like the military and she went back to the cliff she was pearched on before, she sat with her tail curling her tail around her like how a cat does. She growled softly at the thought of military being around, she supported them but she didn't like them getting with the supernatural/prehistoric creatures, she wondered why there wasn't any dinos or direwolves around, from a place she was in before there was a several groups of prehistoric with Velociraptors without the feathering, actually once she thought about it they looked very close to the Jurassic Park guys, just more colorful scales and defined markings, and direwolves, saber tooth tigers, etc. She kinda missed that aspect of some areas but maybe it gets a little too cold for them, after all they aren't good with cold climates, some are...But most of the dinos aren't. She straighted her posture and just enjoyed the slight breeze and the view.

Alex investigated the recruitment office and the recruiter said "Looking to sign up Miss?" "No I'm on the council." "Making sure we comply?" "With the health code yeah..." "That we don't mind." Alex finished her brief glance and saw several young and frustrated werewolves had signed up she said "I can read upside down... Run them into the ground so they listen to you. Got some little punks there that need some discipline..." The recruiter laughed at that and thanked her for not telling anyone who had signed up that was their business. She kept it to herself and saw the kitsune siblings discussing plans over what smelled like a delicious leftover stir fry lunch. She said "Now I wish I hadn't roasted mine and had your recipe..." That got a chuckle and Alex went to the diner for a good burger... The food in the diner was as good as it could be fresh as possible not overly greasy, cooked well, and served at the appropriate temprature for whatever it was be it hot food or cold. Dragons needed a high protien diet so Alex ate her meat and fish without complaint didn't care for soy for some reason.

Nightshade jumped off of the cliff and free-fell for a few moments, then she spread her wings and went up, she flapped her wings harder and then tucked them and twirled upwards, she went smoothly from the twirl into a dive. She pulled up from the dive and landed on the ground, she walked around warily in of a attack, Nightshade raised her head and smelled the air 'Odd, not a lot's going on' she thought as she found a pond and watched the water, in a previous area it was chaotic, though she liked this place because it's more peaceful than that area. She leaped up in the air again and began flying around the area, she loved the being in the air, it was calming to her; she began doing more tricks out of boredom. She went higher into the air and plunged into a

vertical dive, when she got close to a pond she tucked her wings in and dived into the water, she stayed underwater for a few moments then came up again. She swam to the edge and climbed up, she shook off the water and sat down for a few moments, she drank some water.

Suvival of the fittest, mythical animals and extinct creatures exist but no one knows about them.
