Another howl rang out from somewhere up ahead; this one was so piercing it gave her pause. Then more howling from the other direction ‘there’s more of them?!’ she though alarmed, they were ahead and behind; she was surrounded. Unsure of where to go, her fur bristled again, she felt trapped. One thing for sure, she did not want to head in the direction that loudest howl had come from. She looked around quickly, seeing noting but trees, she knew her only choice was to climb. It was too much of a risk to head in any direction, they could be everywhere for all she knew. She scrambled up the nearest tree—well, like a cat fleeing dogs. Perhaps the whole thing would have been easier if she`d known that they were other experiments like her or if she`d flown for that matter. It couldn`t be helped. She`d act first and ask questions later.

Liam almost cheered for himself. The deer was dead. Liam loomed over the deer's carcass, bloody knife in hand. "Better take out the good parts for me and Cyrus," he said. Liam began cutting away, looking over his shoulder and surveying his surroundings every two minutes. He had to stay alert. He heard Cyrus's howl and savage snarl. "Good thing he's tied up," said Liam. Liam sneezed, shaking his head as he cut away. After getting the good and juicy parts of the deer, Liam made a carrier out of leaves and twigs and even a piece of his shirt. He placed the good parts in and rolled them up. Wiping off the knife, Liam walked over to the dead deer and bowed. "Thanks for the meal," he said. With that, he was off. Liam hurried back to where he left Cyrus. He heard the howl of Mai suddenly. Liam halted and looked around. The howl had stopped. Liam shrugged and continued onward until the howl sounded again. Liam stopped and surveyed his surroundings. "This isn't funny, Mai," he said to himself. Even though he had feline characteristics, and could run really fast, Liam was frightened by the outside. Even Mai's howling scared him into a sprint toward Cyrus. When Liam arrived, he saw the moon as bright as ever. He then looked over at Cyrus. "Good, you're still tied up," he said. This moment was always a tough one for Liam. When dealing with a crazed Cyrus, anything could go wrong. Cyrus almost took Liam's head off back at the lab, but the two survived the encounter and Cyrus apologized. Liam slowly walked up to Cyrus, who wasn't moving for some reason. "Cyrus?" asked Liam. It was a deathly silence. Not even the ravens or owls were making noises. The crickets seemed like they were holding their breath. Liam was only three feet away from the unmoving Cyrus. Cyrus's head was hung, with the top of his box cut showing to Liam. "...C-Cyrus...are you...ok?" asked Liam. He wondered why Cyrus wasn't moving. Liam placed the wrapped up meat on the ground next to him and inched closer to Cyrus. "Cyrus, stop playing," said Liam, reluctantly reaching for the young man. Liam's fingers twitched as he neared Cyrus's box cut. "...Cy?" he asked. Cyrus's head whipped up in a flash, a great growl escaping his throat. Liam screamed and jumped back, quickly bringing his hand back as Cyrus snapped at it. Cyrus bared his glistening fangs, his wolf ears flattened against his head. Cyrus bushy tail was curved into the air. Liam was horrified to see Cyrus's eyes. They were red, like the Devil's skin. Cyrus glared at Liam.

"Cyrus, I got some food," said Liam, shaking as he reached for the meat, all the while keeping his eyes on Cyrus. If they broke eye contact, Cyrus would go mad and probably break free. Liam picked up the meat, unwrapped it, and quickly threw a piece to Cyrus. With a snarl, Cyrus caught the meat with his fangs and devoured it like an animal. Liam fed him another piece, with Cyrus snarling in anger, snapping the meat and snatching it away from Liam. Liam screamed again, his wings flapping in a hurry. He flew back, taking the rest of the meat with him. Liam landed and remained ten feet away from Cyrus. "I don't know why you like it raw," said Liam. Cyrus growled at him, beginning to squirm again. "I'll get a fire going," said Liam, putting the meat down. He grabbed two sticks and did the old fire making trick, which surprisingly worked. Liam placed the meat on a long stick and constructed a holder out of more sticks. He then began to roast the meat and made sure the fire wasn't too high. All the while, he glanced at Cyrus from time to time. Cyrus watched him, steady growling and following his every movement like a predator. Liam hated the idea of Cyrus attacking and killing him right now...or worse...he having to kill Cyrus with the knife. Liam continued to cook the meat, watch Cyrus, and look over his shoulders for potential intruders.

Rhett amused himself by gliding from tree to tree, using his claws to stick to each one briefly before pushing off. He`d made a game of figuring out ways to use his wings. Scrambling up and gliding down; this style of gliding suited him more than flying, he felt like a pro at it already.

After awhile however, the novelty of it was wearing off and he felt hungry. Spotting a creek just ahead he flew down to it without delay, throwing the water up onto his face, and slapping his tail in it giddily, only feeling slightly disappointed that there wasn’t a spot deep enough to take a swim. He flicked his tongue out enthusiastically sampling nearby vegetation which the banks of the creek were rich with it ‘so many choices’ he squealed internally, never had he seen so many different kinds of plants. Shortly he found some clover and went to town on it, tearing off mouthfuls and swallowing them whole voraciously.

After a bit he started to curl up next to the creek and doze off, he didn`t see particularly well at night and figured he`d pick it back up in the morning. He was abruptly disturbed by the sound of howls ringing off some distance away. He raised his head tilting it slightly, ‘what was that?’ he`d never heard a sound like that. He liked it a lot. He decided to head off in the direction he`d heard it come from; taking back to gliding from tree to tree excitedly. He had to know what was making those wonderful sounds.

Kin smelled cooking meat and climbed down. "Mai it might be safe to go see Cy..." Kin had seen him on the full moon. Once he had food he calmed down considerably. She assumed he was restrained and Kin reluctantly made her way into the danger zone. Mai's tail was wagging the whole way. She wasn't acting like prey. Everyone acted like prey around Cyrus when he was in that state. The different attitude could affect his behavior considerably. Kin was cautious as they got closer and closer. They weren't creeping around Kin had made up her mind to not act like prey if she didn't act like prey Cyrus shouldn't perceive her as prey. Mai was making excited noises when she saw Cyrus she put her ears back and tail down submissively. She was acting like a wolf not prey even if she was keeping out of reach. Kin kept back and away from Cyrus. He could no doubt see her and notice that she was there.
Cyrus's head whipped to the left with a growl, spying two figures entering the scene. Cyrus sniffed the air, blood dripping from his jaws. The smell wasn't of frightened prey, but fellow wolves. Cyrus was in beast mode, but he still had the pack mentality inside. He could tell when one of his own was around, even in beast mode. The scent was welcoming and refreshing. Cyrus blinked his red eyes as one of the figures became unblurred and recognisable. A whimpering welcome sounded from Cyrus as he saw Kin. His tail wagged a bit, with his flattened ears rising a bit. Liam looked back and jumped in surprise, holding out the knife in a defensive manner. "Who are you?" he asked. He calmed as he saw Kin and Mai. "Holy crap, you found us," said Liam, his wings lowering as he was ready to take flight. Cyrus squirmed, his eyes on Kin. Liam noticed he wasn't growling. "Kin, how are you making him act like...a puppy?" asked Liam. He cautiously walked over to Kin and Mai, giving Cyrus a wide berth. Cyrus snarled savagely at Liam, causing Liam to scream and jump back, tripping over Mai's foot in the process. "Sorry, didn't mean to block," said Liam, scrambling to his feet. Cyrus growled at Liam and refocused on Kin. He wanted to get out of the vines and tackle the stunning beauty before him, but Cyrus knew he'd have to wait until tomorrow morning. Liam greeted Kin and Mai. "I fed him, but he keeps growling at me," said Liam. Cyrus licked the blood around his lips as he glared at Liam. Liam was taken aback. "Oh great, now he wants to eat me," said Liam, shaking his head and walking back over to the meat. "Deer anyone?" he asked Kin and Mai. Cyrus looked from Liam to Kin. His tail wagged even more as she got closer. He didn't feel like attacking her, with the exception of Liam....maybe Mai. Cyrus squirmed again, growling as he tried to break free. "Stop it before I bang your head with a branch," snapped Liam. Cyrus let out a bestial roar, popping one of the vines. Liam gasped. "Oh crap, do something, Kin, Mai!" he shouted. Cyrus growled at Liam.

Lexy noticed two experiments pass under the tree she was hiding in and relaxed noticeably ‘they must be a couple of the others that escaped’ she thought obviously narrowing her eyes and shrugging ‘is that all?’ she mocked herself ‘got all worked up for nothing’ she jeered shaking her head in disbeilif ‘and only two of them—here I was thinking I was surrounded by wolves’ she grinned wryly ‘but they are only women—harmless’ she thought complacently, and dropped down berating herself her earlier cowardice.

They had already gone up ahead, after that commanding howl no doubt, it never ceased to amuse her how bestial others could be; obeying baser instincts and the like. She chaffed at them. She decided she wasn’t about to let this group of dogs keep her from her destination to the north. However, she preferred not to get mixed up in whatever it was they were doing, so she proceeded in a wide circle around where they`d been headed. Better to give them a wide berth, they were probably so caught up in their own affairs they wouldn`t even notice her. The smell of cooking meat was alluring, and tempted her gratingly, but she ignored it, raising her tail and her nose haughtily as she walked on adamantly ‘like I’d go beg for food?—never’ he mouth watered slightly as she passed by close enough to where there fire was to see it`s flitting light dance upon the ground, but stayed hidden in the cover of the trees. 'It smells so good... no got to stay focused' She Dithered about rather to keep going or stick around for a chance to steal some like the opportunist she was.

Kin was mildly surprised she was a fox not a wolf. She told Liam "Stop acting like prey and he'll stop treating you like prey." Mai was all wags and smiles but she wasn't showing teeth. Mai said "We ate already." Kin said "She acts like a puppy too so I am used to the puppy behavior." Mai went right up to Cyrus and kept submissive. Kin put herself right in his reach staying submissive not prey. Prey doesn't submit but Kin normally didn't either so the instant he was back to normal she would set him straight. Mai was cozying up to Cyrus. Kin stayed within the beastly man's range. Then Kin realized something she smelled like Mai and Mai smelled like her. They smelled like a pack, Kin acted like the alpha female, and that might be what was so appealing to Cyrus. She didn't want to hurt Mai's feelings but Mai would understand.
Liam watched as Mai cuddled up to Cyrus. Kin was in striking distance of Cyrus, Liam thought. "Careful," said Liam. He was surprised Cyrus didn't lash out. Cyrus growled a bit at Mai, but kept his cool with her, letting her know that he was the dominate one. Liam watched as Cyrus sniffed Kin. Liam cocked his head. "She's not a wolf, yet he's appealed by her," he said to himself. Liam figured it out. Cyrus was attracted to other wolves. He was attracted to alpha females. Kin was the alpha, Mai was the subordinate. Liam shook his head. She's a fox, though, he thought. Cyrus tugged at the vines around him. Liam had to let his fear go. If Cyrus was the dominate male, the alpha, Liam had to let Cyrus know that he was the beta, even though he wasn't a wolf. Liam walked over to Cyrus. Cyrus whipped his head around, growling at Liam. "Cyrus, I'm your friend, not your meal," snapped Liam, feeling his fear dispatch. Cyrus's alpha behavior was taking its toll. Cyrus snapped at Liam. Liam knew he had to do it. Throwing the knife down, Liam rocked forward and struck Cyrus across the face. Cyrus was stunned by the blow. "Snap out of it, Cy, I'm your best friend for God sakes!" roared Liam, his eyes glowing as he yelled. His afro ruffled a bit, looking like a shaking mane of a lion. Liam was afraid anymore. Cyrus slowly looked at Liam. Liam growled back, but in a more friendly state. Cyrus sniffed the air before him and the growling ceased. Liam was shocked. He'd done it. He'd gained Cyrus's trust in beast mode. Cyrus looked back at Kin, looking her in the eyes. Liam let out a sigh of relief and retied the vines. Cyrus grunted from the new knots, but kept his focus on Kin. "You must be controlling him or something because I've never seen him focus on anything but food like that," said Liam. Cyrus's tail wagged. He even brushed against Mai. Liam noticed Cyrus's behavior had changed, even under the full moon. Cyrus looked away from Kin suddenly. He sniffed the air. Liam studied Cyrus's actions. Cyrus suddenly gave an urgent bark. Liam's eyes bulged. He looked around. Something was coming or it was already here. "Look alive, he's sensed something," said Liam.

Rhett made his way as quickly as he could, but the howls had stopped and besides that his directional hearing left a lot to be desired. It was difficult to pinpoint where the sound came from, he was probably going the wrong way. He stopped, clinging to a tree to get his bearings. He stayed perfectly still and listened—he listened hard but heard nothing more. In the distance however, he saw a light flickering against the dark of night. Something was over there for sure. He felt compelled to go check it. His gliding from tree to tree resumed as he closed in on where he`s seen that light swiftly. However, upon getting closer he smelled smoke and cooking meat.

He stopped dead again; he hated that smell. It was better than the smell of blood, but still it repelled him. Where there was meat there was other people, maybe scientist. Probably not the best idea to go find out; that didn`t usually stop him—but that smell. He decided he`d find out what that sound was later. He coughed from the smoke blowing in his direction and hissed before moving away a short distance. Frustrated that he didn`t get to satisfy his curiosity, he climbed down the tree he was on, and found a soft place to curl up, and started to drift off to sleep.

Kin saw Mai get disappointed but she figured it out. Her ears swiveled in the direction of Liam. When Cyrus reacted to the other person Kin's ears swiveled too Mai sniffed and said "It's one of us..." Kin said "Come out before he loses it." She was the calm one there. Kin acted more like an alpha than Cyrus did. She didn't have to use intimidation or anything else to enforce her word. Her actions more than commanded respect. Mai was the follower, more of an enforcer. Both were highly intelligent but Kin was the calm one who thought things through. Dominant was more than a personality type it was a clear head, a confident attitude, an aura of authority, a commanding presance, and a perceptive mind. Mai was an obediant follower but not quite alpha material. Cyrus knew this even in his feral mindset.
Cyrus could smell the intruder nearby. His bestial senses kicked in. The pack mentality told him that this was his territory. Territory was made to guard and protect. Intruders were not welcomed. Cyrus snarled aloud, sending a savage message to the intruder that was only a short distance away from the site: Stay away or else. Cyrus tugged and tugged at the vines. Suddenly, they popped. Cyrus was free. "Oh crap," said Liam. Cyrus shook his head, pounded his chest, and snarled to the moon. His red eyes glowed like hot coals. "He's wild!" shouted Liam. He quickly went for Cyrus, but Cyrus round kicked Liam in the chest, sending him flying into the ground with a grunt. Cyrus looked at Kin one last time before sprinting off into the shadows. Liam scrambled to his feet. "No, that intruder could be another experiment!" shouted Liam. "We have to stop him," he said, sprinting after Cyrus. Cyrus sprinted through the trees. He was loose and crazed. His eyes were red and he had the characteristics of a wolf. Can you say werewolf? Cyrus growled as he ran, sniffing the air for the intruder. The scent was familiar, yet it was different, cold...scaly? Cyrus skidded to a halt as he came upon a tree. Below the tree was a sleeping figure. Cyrus growled, with the moonlight looking like a halo behind him. Only his red eyes could be visible to anyone in front of him. Cyrus stalked forward, being as stealthy as can be. Here was his opponent who slept, not knowing the dangers he was in. Liam arrived and gasped. "Cyrus, don't," he whispered. Cyrus ignored him and went in for the kill with a savage snarl.

Lexy crept closer peering through the underbrush, what she saw next was shocking to say the least. They had someone tied up, a large guy. They were gathered around him acting strangely, and he looked positively bestial, they were all so…animalistic with their growling, grunting and posturing. This disturbed her ‘no way’ she breathed ‘no—not getting caught up in whatever THIS is’ she shook her head ‘what a bunch of freaks’ she backed away. ‘What the heck is this, some kind of paegan ritual?’ she sneered, she was as fascinated by their actions as she was repulsed by them, finding herself unable to look away.

Then when the one guy started yelling in the others face she was intrigued ‘actually this is getting good’ if they were all so distracted by the tied up guy, then they wouldn`t be noticing her swipe their food. Then she heard what the guy with the afro said and realized that she had been detected. She cursed under her breath. ‘How?’ she demanded curling her hand into a fist, she prided herself on being as silent as shadow and berated herself thusly. Her covert approach had been ruined. It was either retreat or show herself at that point. ‘Oh well’ she shrugged with a sly smile as she heard one of them command her to come out 'as if' she thought with amusement, she didn`t want anything to do with that red eyed guy; his stupidty grated at her nerves already. ‘fine, if I can`t steal it in secret, I’ll just have to do it in plain sight’ she psyched herself out before sprinting forward and grabbing the food "later!" she waved, smiled and winked as she passed through the clearing, picking up into an all out sprint. ‘That was stupid’ she thought knowingly ‘but…I’m hungry dang it’ she knew she`d let her stomach get the best of her ‘no… I can do this, -- no way those freaks can catch me’ she thought assuredly, attempting to convince herself that, that move hadn’t been anything less than foolhardy.

Rhett stirred in his sleep disturbed by guttural snarling and someone yelling ‘dangerous’ he thought sleepily and blinked waking up just in time to see a pair of threatening red eyes staring back at him. Then whatever this thing was lunged with deadly intent, he pushed off with his tail rolling away just in time. ‘Yikes!’ he thought alarmed ‘does this thing want to eat me?!’ he bounced off of his tail leaping forcefully to the nearest tree and scrambled up it “leave me alone!” he yelled and hissed turning around on the tree until he was completely sideways looking down, digging his toes in to maintian his grip; he couldn`t see very well at night, this was bad "if this is your territory I'll leave" he promised feeling uncharacteristically worried as he opened his wings.

Liam had to stop Cyrus, but instead he screamed for the reptilian like dude to wake up. Suddenly, Liam heard another intruder. This one was responsible for taking food from the fire. Liam could smell the deer meat as it passed by. Liam growled and took off into the brush. He roared, bringing his leonic behavior to life. Liam tackled the food thief to the ground. The two rolled until they hit a tree. Liam snatched the meat away and snarled at the thief. "Who are you?" he growled. Liam halted suddenly, noticing the thief was a young woman, only two years younger than him. She had feline characteristics just like him, only she was more of a lynx instead of a lion. "You know you can ask for it instead of take it, we're all friends here," snapped Liam.

A Storm Rising
Setting

Just on the outside of the lab.

There are trees, about a half a mile of them completely surround the lab. Tall, loblolly pines.

If you get farther out to the north, a snowy cliff.

To the east, also cliffs, but these are warmer. Less trees, but lots of rivers flow through.

You're going to hit a dead end if you go south, but it might work for you. It's a beach, and there is a tropical island about five miles off the coast.

Whatever you do... Don't go west.

Plot

Shh... They'll hear you.

If they catch you, then they'll take you back to the lab.

That's the last thing you want.

So spread your wings and fly, fight them, or outsmart them.

What you do now will change your life.

History

You my friend, are nothing more than an experiment.

You seem to be human at first glance. Then, upon further inspection, one would see your wings.

If they look closer, they will see some other animal quality.

They will scream and run.

What do you think you are doing, running away from me?

I will find you.

You will regret this.

...That all creeped you out, right? Unerved you a little?

I wonder who was talking to you just them...hmm...

WHELP, anyway, here's the rules.

You have JUST NOW escaped the lab, that is where you start. (In the woods.) If you don't know, Loblolly pines are tall, skinny pines. they only have branches at the top. (Real life truffula trees, only a lot taller.)

You MUST have two Oc's. One will be killable, one not.

You have wings. The wings can look however you want.

in addition to your wings, you also have some qualities from another animal. THis may be any real animal that is alive today, and you must use only ONE other animal. (EX: Cat ears and tail, fangs and snake eyes, gills and tinted skin.)

I controll all scientists/staff/wild animals/ things you will encounter if you make the poor decision to go west.

You do not pick which of your OC's is killable. I may kill either one of them.

Get my permission before killing an OC.

(Yes, I am being a controll freak with this RP, but I'm trying something new with it and I think it will be interesting.)

Quick note- You may encounter a person who goes by "Rowan," "Silver," "Menace," or any combination of these three names.. She seems to be an escapee from a while back... will she help or hurt you?

Pmme with questions BEFORE making a character.

Good luck then.
