Tealeaf skidded to a stop as the dog approached him. Listening to his words, his leaf wilted. Humans untrustworthy? He just couldnt think of them that way.
However, before he could protest, the legend took off. He stood, staring, unsure of what to do now.
Gauge couldnt stand and watch idly as the dog came up to his beloved pokemon. He ran as soon as the dog stopped, but it was gone in an instant. Instead, he ran up to meet with his still pokemon, dropping on his knees to pet the dino's head.
"Tealeaf, are you alright?" He asked, a bit frantic.
Tealeaf looked silently to his trainer. "Bay..." he uttered, dipping his head and hiding his face against Gauge's chest.
Salem and Cel looked at each other in confusion and shock as the dog said that humans had become untrustworthy. Who would say such a thing? Having grown up without the influence of the outside world, they had not felt the hatred from humans that a lot of pokemon had now. Both looked back to Darren as he got up and walked slowly too them, still in awe of seeing the legend with his own eyes. There was no way that the two could every think of Darren as untrustworthy. The young man had raised them from eggs, fed them, trained them, and was there for them whenever they needed help. How then, could the legend say that all humans could not be trusted? Thinking about it made Cel's brain hurt, so she stopped thinking about it and floated over to meet Darren and promptly gave him a hug.
Salem on the other hand, was still thinking. There had to be some significant reason behind Suicune not liking humans and holding so much bitterness towards them. While he knew that Plasma had done a terrible thing, was it really bad enough to cause even the legendaries to hate humans? He just didn't understand. Right then he decided that he would have to meet Suicune again somehow and figure out the true reason behind his hatred.
"That really was Suicune. I saw him with my own eyes," Graystoke commented, his mouth twisted in a grin. Though something still hung in the back of his mind that bothered him. The stare that he had recieved when Suicune had looked around was not one of friendship, or even curiosity. To him it seemed like one of contempt or disgust. As if the pokemon couldn't stand the sight of humans. If that was true, then getting the legends to help him would certainly be harder than he thought.
Raina couldn't believe that Suicune would say such a thing about humans. While she herself had been through some of the worst of the events with Team Plasma's second uprising, being kidnapped and worse, she had never come to mistrust humans. At least not all of them. While she did agree that there were humans that deserved mistrust, you couldn't group them all together with such a statement. 'Suicune's pain has caused it to turn bitter,' the Haxorus said solemnly.
'Pain will do such to you, and much more if you let it,' rune replied. He could feel Raina's eyes looking at him, but the Metagross didn't pain. Rune knew all too well the feelings that Suicune had. In his own life, he had felt the same thing and still harbored some feelings even now, though not towards Graystoke as much now. His previous owners death had been devastating to him, as he blamed the doctors for not being able to help her. So Suicune's words did strike a few heart strings and bring up a few bad memories, but he couldn't bring those feelings towards Graystoke. That man had planted a seed of hope in the Metagross that there might possibly be more humans out there like him. 'Suicune has seen many atrocites done to him and pokemon abroad. Do not think him unjustified in his belief, just aim to change it.'
Tealeaf heard what the older trainer's pokemon were saying, and couldnt take it. He gave Gauge another nuzzle before he backed up and charged across the lake toward them, skidding to a stop, which for such a heavy pokemon wasnt easy.
Â
"What sort of pain could hurt that pokemon so much that it hates all humans? What give it that right?" He looked hurt and sounded it very much so. "Only I can judge my human! I'm the one that knows him!" He stomped the ground heavily, his necklace swaying with him.
He'd never been able to understand Boo's contempt toward humans either. Even their wonderful trainer who brought such great power out of her, healed her when she was hurt, gave her food and a warm place to sleep... I never made sense and probably never would.
Gauge took off after his pokemon. "Tealeaf!! Dont bother those pokemon..!" Of course he didnt know what Tealeaf was saying to them, so he couldnt understand his pokemon's strange behavior.
Raina was the first to turn and look at the Bayleef, with Rune moving more slowly. The Metagross looked the Bayleef over and then said, 'Raina, would you please go get Graystoke out of the water? He's going to catch a cold if he stays in there too long. I will speak to the young one.'
There was a certain edge to his tone that let the dragon know not to try and stop him. Pain was a subject that Metagross knew even more about than she did, and Raina wasn't about to say anything this time. Simply nodding her head, the dragon pokemon went to retrieve his trainer. With that said, Metagross stared at the Bayleef for a long moment before he said anything. 'You ask me what pain it is that can turn a pokemon against humans? This pain you are inquiring about is one that you have never experienced in your sheltered life. From the looks of you and your trainer, neither of you were there for the war with Plasma, so don't pretend that you know anything about it, because it is nothing like the stories you hear with it being all grand and honorable. The things that I saw during that time is more than any pokemon, or human, should ever have to witness. Alongside my trainer I fought to defend Mossdeep city from team Plasma, in this very region. At first it seemed alright, just going out and keeping the other pokemon from getting on the island, but that all changed when one of my friends was taken out in combat. He belonged to another trainer, but I knew the pokemon well before an enemy took him it. The war was nothing like the pokemon battles that trainers have against one another, this was life or death. After that I came to hate the opposite side, both human and pokemon until I figured out one day, that not all the pokemon on team Plasmas side were doing this on thier own will. The humans were forcing them to fight. They were being forced to fight to the death against pokemon they harbored no grudge against. It was also the humans that wanted to seperate pokemon into a sperate world from themselves, the pokemon didn't have a say in this subject the second time around. So to be perfectly honest, I can see why Suicune would mistrust humans. They were the very ones that started this war, forced their pokemon to fight in it, and took countless lives from our species and their own as well. All just for their twisted goals. So before you go asking your question on how a pokemon can mistrust all humans, I want you to think of my words and think on what it is you truly understand on the subject.' Anger had welled slightly in Rune's voice and his eyes showed it as well. Stamping his own feet on the ground, he began to turn and walk away, feeling he was done with the conversation.
Whatever had been going on at the lake was an utter mystery to Iris; however, to witness a flash of blue and white streaking past her resting spot, followed not long after by a blaze of fire and fur... that was an experience in itself. The shock of looking up from fixing her shawl, only to be met with the crisp cool of mist and the heat of flames touching her face was enough to stun her. The mist stunned her, anyway.
With a hiss of surprise, the aging woman cringed away from the familiar flames. Whereas she could handle the flames produced by Rouge, her Volcarona, with ease, sudden instances of flame were always enough to trigger unwanted responses in her mind. Even now, so many decades after the war had come and gone, she still couldn't move past it.
It took her a few minutes to calm down enough to get a grip on herself, her knuckles white as she gripped her cane and pulled herself to her feet with its help. Whatever that was... something about that brief "encounter" -- as if it could even be called that -- didn't sit as normal on her mind. Pokemon were exceedingly rare as it was in the wild, and even moreso were powerful, full grown pokemon such as what must have just gone by. Unfortunately, it wasn't as if she was capable of just trailing after them anymore. By the time she tracked it down if she went full throttle she would be utterly exhausted.
Intrigue toward what just happened still resonated within her though, so she decided to go with a more logical route. If she couldn't follow the creature, she would simply find its origin and see if she could find a nest or something of the sort to explore. After all, she had nothing better to do with her time than investigate mystery pokemon.
With her mind set on the minor task, she extracted one of her pokeballs from its place in her case, releasing from it a silky, well kempt Linoone with cloudy, glazed eyes. It flinched right away, smelling the acrid stench of burnt earth and dying flames. As the creature instinctively pressed up against its master's legs, she leaned down to stroke his head in comfort. "It's alright, Locke," She cooed to him softly. "There is no danger, just a little fire." Though it took a bit of convincing, the wary pokemon eased up on his cowering and turned his blind eyes up to her to discover his reason for being here.
Finally, with her dear friend calmed, she gave him a gentle, unseen smile. "I need you to backtrack something for me."
He watched the veteran quietly as he spoke, his leaf drooping so far as to touch the back of his neck.
"But now isnt is like it was back then... It's peaceful now, and there are few people that can have a pokemon... They arent like back then... Surely Suicune sees that." It was starting to sink in to him what the past had been like, but he'd been born in the present, and now wasnt like he was being told.
Gauge caught up to the pokemon finally, but couldnt move him since he was so heavy. "Tealeaf, c'mon. Stop bothering him..." It wasnt often they met another trainer, so Tealeaf's behavior worried him, since the dino was the only pokemon he carried, and the super computer and dragon were definately much stronger than the smaller dino.
Arcy soon stopped chasing after the Suicine and started to walk back to Lake Valor, needing another drink. He put out mini flames on the grass as he strode by.
He stood by the edge of the lake and sniffed the air, taking in the crisp and smooth air around him. He then bent down as well as looking down as he dipped his muzzle into the water and lapped up some water. He always kept his eyes upon the water. Watching for movement from down below. After the Arcanine had drunk it's full, he walked over to a tree, a small pile of leaves were littered around it and sat down, curling his tail around the leaves and pulling them towards him, to keep his body temperature high.
Rune's anger subsided after a moment, and he wasn't actually mad at the Bayleef in the first place, simply at the memories that had been brought up and the fact that the young ones couldn't fully understand. Rotating himself back to face Tealeaf, his voice was calmer than before. 'I understand that it is no longer the way it was during the war, but the damage that the war has caused still remains in the hearts and mind of those that were there. These memories are not so easily removed and replaced with new ones. And for those that took the larger weights of the war on themselves, such as Suicune and the legendaries, they will take even longer to return to trusting humans. I myself have only recently returned to trusting them, and even now I do not trust them all, only very few. War does things to you that you will never understand unless you have been through it.' He stopped for a moment as Raina came back to stand beside him with Graystoke in tow. Then Rune continued, 'You know, in some ways I envy your generation. You have never had to experience such a thing as war, and I pray you never have to. Even those in the wild that were raised by those who mistrust humans don't truly follow such beliefs, because they did not grow up with it. That is why you have the ability to trust others with ease, which is something I wish I could still do. Though let me tell you something, if you truly want to have Suicune and the legendaries trust humans, then you must find a way to show them that there are still humans worth trusting. Of course, this will be no easy task, as the legendaries are long lived and their memories stretch farther than ours. Changing their minds will take work, and lots of it. So remember what I have told you, and use that enthusiasm of yours to find a way to change their minds if that is what you want to do.' When Rune finished, though he couldn't see it, he could tell that Raina was smiling, happy to see her friend giving a positve spin on a subject that had sent him into depression years ago.
Graystoke had stayed silent for a little while, realizing that Rune was speaking to the Bayleef. Once he was finished, the older trainer decided to introduce himself. "Well now, you don't see many other trainers out here very often in these days. Good to see there are still a few making there way in this world of hours. Allow me to introduce myself. My name is Graystoke, and these are my pokemon Raina and Rune," he pointed to them respectively as he sid their names. "And who is it that I have the pleasure of meeting today?"
Tealeaf silently nodded, taking in the veteran's words. Finally he looked back at his trainer, his eyes contemplative.
Gauge quietly took in the pokemon's look, then looked to the other trainer. "Oh.. I'm Gauge, and this is Tealeaf... I'm sorry for him bothering your pokemon, he's been a sassy handful since he hatched."
He said in an appologetic tone. "Ever since he evolved, he's been more like a Tauros than a Bayleef... And just as hard to handle," he chuckled.
The dino looked over the other trainer's pokemon, his eyes glazed over in thought. His leaf finally perked again, him looking up at the old trainer as the humans conversed.
Chuckling himself, Graystoke said, "It's fine, I don't mind at all and I'm sure my pokemon don't either. Raina may be big, but she a gentle ol' girl at heart. And though Rune was a handful for a while there, he is starting to warm up to others. Just don't mention anything about the war. He has gotten over a lot, but being the veteran that he is, he has memories that shouldn't be brought back up." A moment of silence went on as Graystoke stared at Rune, thinking of how far the psychic/steel pokemon had come. Perking up some however, he said, "Though what we saw here today will be something that I will keep as one of the greatest memories I have. Who would have thought that Suicune would present itself? After such a long time of the legendaries absence they have finally decided to show themselves. Things are going to be happening very soon I would assume." There a certain twinkle in his eye as he thought of what the legends could possibly be up to.
"Well Gauge, you are truly fortunate to have seen such a thing here today. And Tealeaf is as well." Looking off in the direction that Suicune had sprinted, he tried to think for a moment about what he knew of the region and its myths. "Hmm, it does seem awfully strange that it would head north from here however. Unless it happens to be going towards Lake Acuity." Pondering the possibilities for the moment he shrugged and said, "Well, that is the legend's buisness, not mine. To be honest, my next destination was out to New Moon Island. The place is shrouded in msytery, even the lore of the place is lacking in detail. This just peaks my interest to no end and I am going there to see first hand what is there. If you would like, you can come along with me. Unless you have something else you are doing."
