Maiko woke up before time to get up and made herself some breakfast. When she unlocked the door someone had left a dead rat there that made her almost lose that breakfast when she cleaned it up. It had been one of the girls who had her eye on Byakuya. The girls who valued the professionalism of the unit were shaking their heads. The girl Mai knew dropped the rat had some flowers addressed to Maiko sitting on a vase with Mai's name crossed out and replaced with her own. The captain came in to do inspection as he did every morning and the girl got reprimanded for the theft but the rat was unknown to the captain as far as everyone knew. Maiko passed inspection like usual. Last time she hadn't she'd been ill and had thrown up on the floor. She had to go to the fourth Division. Turned out she'd had a stomach bug that had been going around. So Mai in general besides a few pranks on the eleventh division, namely drawing on the third seat's head when he'd passed out drunk at a bar she happened to have been dragged to by Captain Koryaku. That man had tried to get her to quote 'loosen up' a few times. The reason she did it was Kitsune Hime told her to. She realized that Ikkaku waxed his head then and there.

The Captain looked at the doorway where the rat had been and said "Why is there blood on the floor?" Mai said "Someone dropped a rat in front of my door and I was about to clean that up. I don't know who did it." That last part was a lie. The captain saw right through that and said "Third seat Miyamoto do not lie to me. Who did it?" "I only have suspicions and do not wish to falsely accuse someone." He turned to the others and asked "Who left a rat at the third seat's door. There will be consiquences for all of you if the guilty party does not take responsibility for her actions." The girl who stole the flowers reluctantly stepped forward and bowed in apology. "I apologize third seat Miyamoto." Mai said "Apology accepted." She still got in trouble and had to clean the blood up. Maiko followed the captain as he inspected her quarters without comment. Mai followed after him when he left the barracks but he said "Take the day off." Mai thought he was angry at her but did as she was told. Unfortunately for her Rangiku intercepted her on the way to the market district dragging her instead to a bar. "Come on and drink with me! We never talk." Maiko made to politely brush her off "Leutenant Masamuto I do not drink outside of formal occasions, even then I only drink sparringly. I'm also not much of a talker... You'd be bored with me. I have a day off and personal errands to run. Please let me go now." Maiko got loose and went back to the market. She had to find something to make amends for lying to her captain. A western calligraphy set... Well she figured the captain probably had such a thing but it was the thought that counted so she bought it and had it wrapped.

Maiko gave it to her captain saying "I'm sorry I lied earlier, I didn't want to be a tattle tail and get in trouble with the girls..." "You also thought I was angry." He unwrapped it and thanked her accepting the apology gift. Maiko left and the captain seemed happy for once. Mai had thought about him and his feelings. That was good.

Rowan woek up and streached out on the bed. The sun lightly filtered through tthe window and she could hear birds chirping, aah, what a lovely-

BANG CRASH BAM!

-Morning. Se peered out the window. Ikkaku and YUmichika were haveing a fight, and ikkaku had somehow got thrown into some garbage cans, hence the noise. Rowan grabbed Gin Taku, strapped him on and raced out to... well, she had no plans for the day, but something was bound to come up. SUre enough, there was Gin, walking with Izuru. Rowan repeated yesterdays routine, jump on gin, challange squeaky, get denied, yada yada yada. BORING. Well, now she was revved up and wanted to... no not fight. Run, yeah, that was it. She could race someone. But, if she was going to race, she wanted to race against someone who would actually be competition. Most everyone she knew was slower than her. The nice cat lady was fast, but she was out of the question. The only other fast person in the soul society was...

Heh.

With that thought, Rowan raced off to the 6th division.

Maiko had returned to the market district this time with captain Koryaku, Nemu and Nano oblivious to what was happening to her captain Nano had said "Captain Kuchiki may take you as his date to formal events and you need to have the proper garments." Koryaku had come along to offer his opinion. Masumuto had tried to join them but her captain had dragged her off rescuing Maiko from a woman who would have her look less than lady like. The first kimono was recommended by the captain and was slightly revealing but looked nice. Also out of her price range. She put that one back. Next one from Nemu was in her price range but left her legs exposed. The one Nano reccomended seemed perfect and was in her price range. It was black with gold trim and stars going all over it. She got it happily.

Rowan landed on the wall surrounding the 6th division and inhaled. Huh, odd. Stuffy noble was not here at the moment. Where could he be? Well, maybe she could indirectly cause a bit of chaos. Hmm, should she tell Kenpachi that Stuffy Noble had agreed to fight him... But that might get Captain 11th mad at her. Well, the Crazy Dropout Redhead seemed to be here, and it was easy to get him mad. Granted, he was not fast enough to race her, but she could still have some fun. Rowan pulled a homeade pepperspray bomb (Her own invention, heh) out of her bag and flew over to the vice captians window. Heh, he was doing paperwork with the window open. Perfect. Rowan pressed the detonater button, then tossed the bomb into his window and flew away, loving the sounds of yelling she heard on the way out.

Maiko was in the room when the bomb went off. She'd been about to get Renji's opinion on something regarding the captain and his tastes. She ducked out of the room as the bomb went off. Kitsune Hime identified the thing as a pepper bomb and Maiko covered her nose and eyes before going in to find Renji. Renji's coughing led her right to him and she got him out of the room. "Thanks Maiko. I can't see." "Let's get you to the Fourth Division." Maiko got Renji to the fourth division where the captain was having a physical. Kitsune Hime got her wish to see the captain without his shirt on and it was glorious, Maiko fought the urge to drool. The captain of the Fourth division however pulled her in for her neglected physical as soon as she finished with the other captain. Byakuya also asked the other captain to run a few other tests on Maiko. Urohana nodded quietly and took Maiko in giving her a full physical including an examination of the reproductive system that she wasn't due for. Maiko asked if everything was alright. "Yes dear you're fine. I need you to deliver something to your captain." Maiko saw to Renji before delivering the paperwork. The captain passed the paperwork off to the Kuchiki elders to Mai's confusion...

Rowan sighed. Welll, today had been boring as crap. Her pepper bomb had done nothing. Well, she thought it was funny the Dropout Redhead had gone to the 4th, maybe he had a reaction or something. Maybe the Stuffy Noble would be angry and come yell at her or something, heck, even that sounded fun at this point. Then agian, she had left as soon as she threw the bomb, so he would probably not know it was her. She could go and do the Gin-tackle-izuru-challange thing again, but she had already done that today. Twice. Rowan decided to go run around on the wall of the 6th division. Then maybe she would get her race.

Maiko's day after that got weird. That Rowen girl was running laps around the sixth division. There were Kuchiki elders watching Maiko and the captain seemed to be following her.  Maiko just went through her exercises. The women in her division were acting funny either avoiding her or being rotten to her. Maiko got to her meditation and went to see Kitsune Hime with recent events. "What seems to be the trouble?" "The girls and the captain are acting funny..." Maiko was in the inner world sipping tea and talking to her Zanpakuto. Kitsune Hime was not just her sword but her friend too. The two often chatted like that and Kitsune Hime actually wanted to start Bankai training but Maiko thought it too soon, that they shouldn't try to become too powerful too fast. Kitsune Hime put her tea down and said after a while "I'd like to speak to the captain and his sword. Cast an illusion upon them and I shall have words with them." "Are you sure it's a good idea?" "Ask permission and explain the situation of course so there is no confusion." "If you think it's a good idea I'll ask but no promises." Maiko found the captain and explained what her sword wanted to do. To her surprise the captain allowed it. Kitsune Hime sat in her estate with the captain and the captain sat at the table. "Are all illusions you cast this civillized?" Maiko was also sitting at the table. "She's the one calling the shots right now but it is usually a whim. This is what my inner world looks like and she can catch me whenever she pleases." Kitsune Hime said "It is a pleasure to meet you face to face. Shall we get to business or exchange plesantries?" "You have business with me?" "Yes I do. What are your intentions regarding my weilder?" The Captain sat stoic for a few moments. "The elders of my clan are pressuring me to find another wife. The nobility also requires new blood for a healthy bloodline. Leutenant Miyamoto has the final say in the matter but she is a candidate." Maiko nearly did a spit take and barely managed to swallow her tea "M-Me? I'm not even a first leutenant. I don't have even have Bankai." Kitsune Hime said "Despite the fact I think she is ready for it." Captain Kuchiki sipped his tea for a moment before saying "Do I require your permission to properly court Maiko?" "No just hers, the other women in the division are behaving strangely." Maiko said "I don't mind being courted as you put it. But please nothing too expensive if you do start giving me gifts... I do not need the other women trying to steal them and getting in trouble for it." "Very well." Then plesantries were exchanged and then Maiko broke the illusion closing the fans with a click.

GGGRAH!

This was so frustrating! Today was the most boring day in the history of the world. She had given up on her race at this point. Rowan took her dragon form and flew back to the 11th division, again landing on the wall. As usual, there was lots of sparring. The smell of sweat and blood hit her strongly, but she did not really mind it anymore. It was one of the many things she had gotten used to. She searched the crowd for her friends. Ah, there they were. The captain was sitting against a wall, and Ikkaku was fighting the seventh seat. Yumichica and Yachiru were cheering him on. Rowan glided down, landing neatly next  to Yumichika. She waited for him to look at her. When he did, she giggled.

"Well, what happened to your face, not so pretty boy?"

Rowan enjoyed the look of playful rage that spread across his face. TThis was the norm, them insulting eachother when they wanted to fight, and neither of them meant anything by it. 

"It's still not as bad as yours, slowpoke" He shot back. Rowan leapt up, drawing her Sword, and Yumichica blocked. 

Maiko and Byakuya were sitting in his gardens talking with the man who raised her Shiro Miyamoto. An elderly man who was generally endearing to people and very kind. He'd imparted kindness and humility on Maiko. Byakuya's grandfather was also watching the situation. Shiro was a cheerful man but there was sadness in his eyes. Some of the girls from the division were giving Maiko the evil eye over the wall. Maiko was doing her best to ignore them. Kitsune Hime however was giving it right back. Shiro said "My little Maiko could become a some body. I remember the day I found her. Just a baby barely weaned. She called me Grampa and she was so cute I just had to bring her home. My wife and son were none too pleased with it but Maiko grew on them. Always wanting to help my dear wife with everything she could and playing with my boy. She made both of them so happy. The man who marries her is a lucky one. A loving wife and a natural mother. She looked after this little fox kit she called Akane. I didn't have the heart to tell her it was a male fox. My son did that for me. Little Aki was a good mouser kept my wife happy not having to see a rodent..." The old man went on and on with little stories and Byakuya's grandfather started sharing his stories about his grandson.

Byakuya's next gift was a live fox kit. there were dog doors installed for the kit to run in and out, and all around uninhibited. The little thing was black and the girls were cooing. Mai said "Don't feed it too much otherwise it might not be such a good mouser." One of the girls said "Mouser?" "Yeah I had one as a kid. Little guy made sure the only mice I saw were dead ones. When this little guy gets bigger might even go after rats." "It's a female." Mai said "Did you check for nuts?" "No." "Give it here..." Mai was reluctantly handed the fox and she looked. "It's a boy. So girls what are we going to name him?" "Toshi." Was the vote and the fox's new name. The fox saw a mouse and caught it dropping it at Mai's feet. "Good boy." The girls fought the urge to scream. Mai cleaned up the mouse and fed the fox. She was pleased with this gift and the girls thought the fox was for all of them but Maiko knew it was hers.

After a fight with Yumichika. (A tie) Rowan set off to go and find something else to do. She decided to go attempt to sneak up on Soi-Fon, always fun and challanging. But she quickly became distracted when she passed the 6th division on the way there. Upon sniffing the air, she became aware of some new scent. What was it? Not a soul reaper, not another draconian either. It smelled... canine. Huh. Rowan flew over the wall and landed in the 6th division. Ahh, so thats what it was. She could see a little black ball of fur, She ran over to it; a fox kit! huh, where did that come from. IT tried to bite her nose, and rowan sat up, growling a little.

Maiko rescued Toshi from Rowen apologizing and saying that Toshi was still a baby. Maiko did not want to tick the unofficial fourth seat of the eleventh division. Nemu interrupted them saying "Master Mayuri would like to run more tests today Leutenant Miyamoto." Maiko looked around and dragged Nemu off to ask the nature of the experiments. "To see if Kitsune Hime can cause pain." Mai said "You'll have to tell Captain Mayuri that she can only create the sensation of pain, and that if he wants to know more about Kitsune Hime come and just ask. No need to poke and prod me." "Nemu what is taking so long?" "Master Mayuri she isn't going to cooperate this time. But she is willing to answer any questions about her blade you might have. She claims it can only cause the sensation of pain at present." "I am a captain girl do as I say." Byakuya interrupted and said "My third seat is not yours to command. In fact I am going to forbid further experimentation. I have an interest in seeing to it that everything about her is in tact and functioning properly. The Head Captain has informed me that the last of the required tests were just performed. You have no business experimenting on her anymore." Byakuya walked her off.

Rowan snorted. Of corse the thing was still a baby! What, did that lady think she was stupid? Come on, she was a freaking dargon with shiny silver scales. That was probably why she had gotten nipped. The growl was not meant to be a threat. Baby things did not know better, and she had "explained" that she did not appreciate her nose being bitten. Well, there was no use being angry. Hey, she could go explain the situation! Then she could maybe play with the little fox. Rowan would never admit it to herself, but the had a maternal side. 

So Rowan followed the lady.

Maiko had just had a protective mother moment there and apologized "Sorry I just got a little protective there. He's more or less the Sixth division's pet." Byakuya said "That was a gift for you." "The other women just adopted little Toshi." The captain went silent and led Mai on the fox following after her for some reason. The other women in the Sixth division tried to get Rowen away from the captain. Less compettion that way. Even if they'd already lost but then again they hadn't realized that yet. They didn't know Maiko was being courted formally by the captain with Grandpa Shiro's blessing. 

Rowan was a bit amused with the behavior of the other girls. She decided to have some fun. She crouched low to the ground, bristled like an angry dog, and snarled. They all screamed, scrambling off in different directions. She laughed, then followed Stuffy Nble and the lady. She had not given up on her race yet, even though she knew the chance of him actually agreeing to race her was next to nothing. She could still annoy him. She ran froward, catching up to the two quickly, running in fromt of them and then coming to a dead stop. SHe turned to stare at the captain.

"Hey, Hey! I bet that I'm faster than you!"
