Kaeldred snuck out of a mini makeshift den he made, soon after the earthquake. he had been searching for any kinds of life except his own(and plants) but was unsuccessful, only footprints(and plants) filled his view..
Kaeldred let out a long, deep sigh. Maybe...Maybe...it could get better, maybe he could at least find someone...so he couldn't be lonely! If he was alive, so were others, he though. and darted out of the territory.
Hours after searching and still...nothing, luckily, Kaeldred hadn't given anything up yet, and had even found some herbivore footprints on the way, but the scent was stale...he stopped, and studied his surroundings once more.
Â
Â
Wait a second....more footprints!
Â
kaeldred walked up to the footprints, and studied them.
These could only be albertosaurus footprints.Â
Â
YES! he thought happily, finally! and the scent was fresh too! so now, he began his journey, (even if the albertosaurus could easily...harm him) to find the albertosaurus...
His eyelids kept fluttering open and closed, as dusty debris kept on swifting past him and into his eyes. Letting out a snort of air, the dinosaur knew that it would take a while to find and do what was needed. Would he take in a hatchling? A female in, though suspicious of falling in love again? An elder? Another species? Nothing was new to Xavier, as thus the world was shattering before him.
Sighning, he kept his pace brisk, occasionally wandering off to where he though they're's prey.
But right then, something flickered at the back of his eye at a far distance. Triceratops! Before his instinct came in to play, he was about to dash off, which'll scare the prey away along with anything else nearby. But by the looks of it, the herbivore seemed half-starved and exhausted; a great oppertunity to strike.
Licking his serated-sharp teeth, he slowly took a couple paces forward, but not close anough for his scent to drift to it. Fortunatly, the wind was blowing away from the exhausted dinosaur and into Xavier's face, making the challenge quite easy on so many levels.Â
Letting out a snort, he let out a blood hurling roar and ran at full speeds towards the herbivore, mouth open.
kaeldred was still following the footprints, probably quite a few hours, or even a day or two, behind the bigger predator..he was still relying on sight and smell to guide him, which was doing quite well, assuming that the trail was still fresh. He could easily put off his hunger until later, for now he needed water..but he hadn't thought about until the day after he left.
What a stupid mistake for a relitively harmful predator, who could now be the prey of any predator larger than he...if there was any other predators..and loneliness, too, took it's tool-quite quickly- too. He was so used to his family being around, ready to bring in prey and play. So lively, the group,...but now he was alone, no knowledge whatsoever of hunting...some might've just layed down and waited for something to eat him...but instinct drew him onwards.
Â
Â
Suddenly, he heard a loud roar. The Albertosaurus! he thought, and once again, he (probably) made a stupid mistake, he sprinted as fast as his exhausted legs could carry him, to the noise.
Â
Â
Â
(you have a stalker.)
Running at full speed with his jaw set wide open, his mouth watered as he could imagine biting down into the tasty flesh of the herbivore. Taking it in at long lengths, the Triceratops let out an alarmed roar and started to run off, scared. Xavier, knowing what to do next, turned his pace sharply to the right, then sprinted off towards it, only a couple of tail-lengths away. Giving one last final sprint, he ran side-by-side with it.Â
Letting out another roar, he embraced his serrated sharp teeth firmly on its tail, making it howl in agony. But the herbivore put up a fight that almost made the Albertosaurus see his last days. It slapped its tail sharply at his maw, making a long gash at the side of Xavier's cheek.
Roaring, he tried to make the killing swift by biting at it's neck. But to his dismay, the huge crest of the Triceratops got in his way, making that tactic unavailable.
But instead, he had another plan. Circling the now aware herbivore cautiously, another death defining roar escaped his jaw once more. The carnivore launched himself at full speed towards it, and with jaws open, managed to cut open his side painfully.Â
Watching through slitted eyes as the Triceratops tried to fight for its life, it lashed its tail once more before collapsing on the ground, breath shallow. The amount of blood it lost was enough. The fight......was over.
Smiling through blood-stained teeth, he ate to his hearts content, in which there was a moderate amount of meat left over inside the herbivore.Â
Flaring his nostrils as he got up from his meal, another scent wafted by. But not that of a herbivore nor omnivore he knew, but that of a small carnivore. His eyes turned to worry as he imagined a young-ling separated from it's parents.
Usually and no matter what, any carnivore or omnivore would eat or kill a hatch-ling for fun or for food. This is what makes Xavier different; His mind was set to an above intelligence that some Dino's lacked. What happened was that he can make his decisions without relying on his instincts. So if there was a young-ling out there, he wouldn't dare hurt it, as his instinct wasn't primal yet.
Kaeldred had heard several roars as he ran...both carnivore and herbivore...so that also meant meat was nearby! He sniffed around, and made a small nodding movement to confirm the thought, then, sprinted once again, following the footprints, scent, and hearing. As Kaeldred ran, the scent got stronger..and even stronger mixed with the smell of meat, and that literally drove him nuts. Kaeldred was usually fed a few days after not being fed, but something just triggered his hunger...maybe loss? Kaeldred studied the ground, definately newer, fresher tracks. kaeldred placed his foot in one of them, seeing that his feet were about one-half the size. pretty big albertosaurus, to his knowledge,
Â
Â
Again, herbivore scent drove him onwards, and soon..he could see the silhouette of the albertosaur, tearing away at the carcass, and Kaeldred stopped dead at his tracks, unsure of what to do next.
Â
What he felt..wasn't fear...but...
Â
Â
Â
Longing..mayhaps...
Still, the scent haunted him. Where was it coming from? Was it dead or alive......no, it can't be. The scent is fresh and new.....unless another carnivore brought it along but......there's no other scent along from it.Â
Giving a quick sigh, he kept his guard throughly, even though whatever is was that came out, he wouldn't strike and it for some random behavior. He knew very well he wasn't like that, unless it lunged at him and he had no other option than to defend himself, in which he would to protect his own life.
Another thing tugged at his heart........would he be able to find his family again? Even though he had just a mate; a pretty and young Albertosaur, he wouldn't want her to be dead that quickly. If he had offspring, that would be a different conclusion. But luckily they havn't mated yet, in terms then there would be hatchlings running around by now. Even though, would he adopt one if he encounterd a young dinosaur on his trip? He thought about it for a while before resting his head lightly on the ground, sighing.
Kaeldred studids the albertosaur, just standing there....he knew the albertosaur could smell him, but would he attack? He was so much bigger than kaeldred, being only a really young deinonychus, and stronger, too.
Â
Kaeldred urged his legs to move forward, and it felt like they were screamingat him, "don't go!" Now not only could he see the silhoutette, but the whole figure of the albertosaurus.
Again he implanted his feet on that spot, but this time, his legswanted to move...why?
Â
Kaeldred jumpeed when he saw the albrtosaurus swing it's head around to sniff. He wasn't actually sure if such a predator would hurt him, he never came face-to-face(sort of) with one, he's only seen outlines of them, before the earthquake, hunting down large herbivores alike.
Â
Curiosity killed the cat.....er...dino.
Â
Â
Kaeldred literally darted forward, making his prescence clear, in eyesight..Kaeldred made a little chirping-roaring kind of sound, and, not being very intelligent as of yet, he crawled up to the much larger carnivore, and poked his leg with his snout, and looked up with curious yellow eyes...
After laying his head down for several minutes, he felt something nudge his hind leg, a snout probably; the scaley texture and coldness gave it away.
Turning his head over with emotion full of shock, it was no other than that small dino he had smelt earlier. Noticing that it was chirping in happiness, made Xavier's head$@#!*a little.Â
What is it meaning? He thought, narrowing his eyes at the Deinonychus.
Noticing how cute it was, it made the larger dino produce a purring-like noise from the back of his maw. He never encountered a near-hatchling in years like this. And if so, it was usually laying dead from starvation or abandonment. Things like that made the Albertosaurus feel sick to the stomach, but it isn't his fault, that's the way he's always been.
Staring at it's now widened eyes, he let out a low growl, not of anger but of kindness. He wanted to let the hatchling know that he wouldn't hurt him.
"I'm not going to hurt you, plus you seem worn out. I managed to sniff you out earlier but I just thought that it was a complete hoax from starving. I know it may seem unnatural that I'm not instantly eating you on sight, but I'm just.....a different dinosaur if you can say." He made a low growl again, same as before.Â
Waiting a couple of seconds, he tore out a moderate amount of meat from inside the freshly-killed herbivore and nudged it towards his 'companion'.
"Here....you seem hungry. Luckily there wasn't any other carnivores around that would've ate it." Xavier laughed sarcastically as he swished his gray tail to the side.
Kaeldred continued studying the albertosaurus, for a bit..
Â
he jumped slightly when the much larger dinosaur spoke, because it felt like forever since he's talked to any of his family members!
Â
even after the albertosaur said he wouldn't hurt him, and gave him some meat(which he felt like he desperately needed) his heart said, "it's okay.." but his brain, who was kind of using actual common sense, said, "Run. Now!"Â
Instead, Keldred moved closer to the meat and he laid down, in a semi-submissive posture, in which he knew all to well. He stayed in that posture for a while until he finished eating.
Â
Again, the world seemed..
Â
Still.
Â
Kaeldred lifted his head and looked at the albertosaurus, and tried to think of what to say. He knew he could speak(yet he didn't, often)..but he didn't know what.
Â
"Thanks. both for the meat and not killing me." is all he could manage, for now.
Â
(honestly i didn't know you could make them speak :O)
Snorting, Serenity walked onward across the barren land. She glanced back over her shoulder at the now empty watering hole, what was left after the earthquake. She had feasted with other predators on the trapped fish there but now even that food source was gone.
She lifted her head high as her gaze looked forward again and she continued on, her large feet leaving footprints in the dirt. She had to find water and food before she could journey to find her two lost chicks. They were almost old enough to be on their own but they were still just juveniles and could fall as prey to a larger carnivore.Â
She snorted again this time shaking her head slightly telling herself that the two were fine. The Spinosaurus stopped suddenly and lifted her nose scenting the air. She could smell an Albertosaurus and Dienonychus nearby. The smaller carnivore could be easy prey but the Albertosaurus not so much. She made her way in that direction anyhow.
He opened his maw in a yawn, his eyelids half closed as the day was near an end. Shifting to a more comfortable posture, Xavier heaved himself onto his feet, struggling. His fight with the Triceratops made him tired with exhaustion, but he had to keep a move on. Without shelter or trees above his head, he felt....open.
Tilting his head back towards the Deinonychus, he responded with his usual-raspy tone. "It's not a problem, honestly. I'm just....unusual I guess you could put it. I have enough sense to not kill a near-hatchling-" Xavier looked away for a moment, his amber eyes dim from anxiety. "-As I'm just not like anyone else. They have a life just like we do, and I wouldn't want to ruin that unless it was a reason I would be forced to." The albertosaurus finished, breathing heavily.
Without another word, something felt...different. He knew throughout the plains there was no other dinosaurs around. Or was there?
"Hey kid, if you want to tag along don't be afraid to ask. I'm just on both a journey to survive and find my mate....if she's alive." Xavier sighed, feeling more miserable than his 'previous' life before the earthquake took place.
I have a terrible feeling about this place....it would be good to get a move on sooner or later....He thought, pointing his large snout towards a set of trees in the distance.
