Syeteka, Sye for short,
stalked through the school hallway, long after the last bell. In fact, it was closer to dinnertime than it was lunch. The hallways had long ago had their lights shut off, and the silence was even a bit eerie. Her backpack weighed her down, so she struggled slightly to place her feet silently on the tile floor. Her hair mostly hid her pale face, and her scared hand grasped the knife in her belt, while her sword was safly hidden. She peered quickly in both directions, hidden in a shadowy alcove next to the
 Coke machine.
Swinging her head left and right,
 she then
scuttled into an empty room where they usually had science class. She knocked over a glass beaker in her haste, and she spat a few cusses before throwing a lone rag on top to sop it up. She hoped it wasn't poison. Although, knowing her luck, the green goo was. Ah, well,
the damage was done. Once the glass peices were covered with a thick cloth, Sye moped her brow and took a shuddering breath. If they were caught.... No, she couldn't think of that now. She
 wouldn't.
Creeping around the darkened room, she grabbed a few abandoned snacks off the far table and gobbled them up. Sye hadn't eaten since lunch. Hiding the wrappers, she quietly paced across the large room. Tile, thin carpeting, not much to look at, minus the goop she spilled earlier that was still staining the ground.
She saw a good waiting place. Shoes squeaking slightly, she squeezed into the tiny closet on the edge of the room, opened the door just a crack, and sat, waiting for the other soon-to-be-runaways to join her. The shadows from the setting sun left large dark slashes around the room- the sun was setting. Sye croutched, hidden in the darkness of the closet. She waited. Checked her watch. Waited some more. Made so origami from spare paper. Waited even more. Checked her watch yet again. It was 6:23 right now. They had planned to meat at 6:30. She hoped they would all agree with their previous statements and meet her here before the sun went down.
Wait. All she could do now was wait.
Sye hated waiting.
