Drago was still sitting next to me, and the four humans (or rather, the two humans and two humanoid monsters)Â had finished the food and were now walking off.
"Hmm... They said they were your friends, but it looks like they didn't leave any food for you," I said. "That is why I've never bothered to try to make any friends... And I thought they were going to come back and untie me, but instead they've just left me tied up..."
"Don't worry, I'll untie you." And he did.
"Thank you." I scratched my neck with my hind paw, the twins had tied the rope so tight around my neck, I wondered if they wanted to choke me.
"I hate those two," I growled. "I suppose everyone does... but it was they're fault I almost got eaten, but they didn't even apologize, they acted like they were being really kind and merciful... As soon as I see them again, I'll kill them..."
"I wouldn't try that if I were you. You'll get yourself killed."Â
"I suppose. But I'd still like to try. I admit I was actually thinking of killing you too, but only because I didn't trust you. I think I do now. Maybe not completly, but a little. And... well... you saved my life twice in one day, I suppose it would be wrong to kill you after that..."
"Hmm," he said. He glanced at me, a little nervously. Then we were both silent again for a minute.
Then I smelled a deer in the bushes. "Just a minute," I said. I snuck up and the deer and pounced on it. My paws struck its spine and snapped it right in half. I dragged the carcass back to Drago.
"Um... you can take it home, for supper," I said. "Thanks", he said. I felt a strange warmth inside me.
Then suddenly his eyes widened and he looked alarmed.
"Um... why are you looking like that?"
"You are... you are human..."
I looked down at myself, and to my shock I realized my body had become a human one. I gasped. But the next instant I had become a big hairy monster again.
Another minute of silence.
"Um... Bye," I said. I gave his hand a quick lick, then I turned and bounded away at top speed, not stopping until I reached my cave, where I immediately collapsed. I was shaking... You let yourself get too close to him, stupid, he has arrows, and a good aim, he could have killed you... But I still felt oddly warm inside... I told myself to try to avoid Drago for now on, yet somehow I knew it would be difficult...
Â
"Oh my god, Iz! Look at that!" said Ivan, elbowing his sister and pointing.
"Oh my god!" Isabel echoed, when she saw what he was pointing at. Kiro and Kashi, that same pair that shared a picnic with them, were walking a monstrous wolf on a leash. It didn't have a muzzle or anything, and yet it was trotting tamely along behind them like an ordinaty pet dog.
"I knew we shouldn't have trusted them..." Isabel whispered to their brother.
"Well, maybe it's just a monster they captured," said Ivan. "Why don't you ask?"
"Are you crazy?!" said Isabel, but Ivan was already waving and calling to the twins, "Hey Kiro! Kashi! Where did you get that werewolf from, and how did you get it to be so subdued? Is it a pet? Can I have a pet werewolf too?"
Isabel slapped her hand over his mouth. He angrily pushed her hand away and flashed her a dirty look. Then he grinned at the twins as they walked towards them with their giant wolf, grinning back. Ivan, you idiot... I'll kill you for this... thought Isabel.
"Really, you'll show us?" said Ivan. "Awesome! My sister and I will be able to exterminate all the monsters with no problem! So, how do you do it?"
"Well, you know how all monsters are actually transformed humans?"
"Yes?"
"Well, this is how that happens!"
Kiro and Kashi's eyes glowed. Ivan was suddenly seized by excruciating pain. He screamed with pain as jet-black fur, feathers, scales and tentacles came bursting out of his flesh, his fingers and toes turned into claws, his mouth became huge, dagger-toothed jaws, he grew several more eyes and he grew way, way bigger. And his scream turned into an unearthly roar. Isabel screamed too. Her brother had just turned into a horrible chimera.
Terrified, Ivan ran blindly down the street and fled.
"What have you done to my brother?!" Isabel shouted at the twins.
"This is no time for chit-chat," they said, their smiles even wider and toothier than before, "your brother is taking off on you, better go chase him, before he starts eating people like monsters always do."
Just then there was the sound of people screaming, coming from the direction Ivan went. Isabel's heart skipped a beat. She ran towards the sound of the screams.
The twins giggled.
"Do you think she might actually kill her own brother?"
"I hope so, that would be so amusing."
Â
I was still angry at myself for letting myself get too friendly with Drago yesterday, and angry at the creepy twins. I wanted revenge, I didn't care if I got killed, I just had to sink my teeth into those two. So I stalked into town, following their scent, until I saw them. I snuck up behind them and sprang at them. They whirled around to face me, but for somehow I managed to be quicker than them; I slammed them to the ground, catching one under each paw. I was about to start mauling them, when they flipped me right onto my back, with superhuman strength, and sat on me. One moment they were my prisoner, the next moment I was theirs. And even though they were only a fraction of my size, they were way stronger than me, way stronger than they thought.
They bared their dagger-like teeth at me in identical creepy grins.
"Hey, it's Rose again."
"Rose, we were so kind to you yesterday, why did you try to atttack us?"
"You didn't actually think you could kill us, did you?"
"I think she did. The monster that attacks again has no soul, and must be killed."
"Sorry Rosie, but looks like this is the end of you."
"And we're afraid it might be a rather slow, painful death."
They started leaning forward to sink their teeth into me. I couldn't fight, or struggle or anything. They had cast some spell on me that immobilized me. For a moment I thought of crunching their faces, but somehow I knew that wouldn't work, it would just make things worse. So instead I whimpered pathetically and gave each of their faces a quick lick (their faces tasted disgusting, but I was desperate). They paused for a moment. I gave them the most heartbroken puppy-dog-like eyes I could. "Please don't hurt me," I whimpered. "Let me go... I'll never bother you again... But if you must kill me, do it quickly at least..."
They thought for a moment.
"Very well, you may go."
"For we are benevolent, kind and merciful to all."
"Even to those who don't deserve it."
"But you'd better get out of here quick..."
"...before we change our minds."
They giggled.
"Thank you, you are so kind," I said. "Let me give you both a thank you kiss."Â
So they stood and waited for me to kiss them.
Instead, I gave them both a swift scratch and bite, leaving deep wounds that oozed weird-tasting, inky-black blood. Then I turned and ran as fast as I could.
For a moment they were too suprised to move. Then they started chasing me.
I ran and ran and ran, through dense undergrowth and prickly thorn-bushes, trying to throw them off. I made it all the way back to my cave. I pressed myself against the back wall, panting. I hoped they didn't see me go in.
Unfortunately, they did. A second later, they appeared in the cave entrance.
"Looks like someone deserves the slowest, most painful death possible," they said, and flashed their creepy grins at me.
I stood there, quaking, as they entered my cave and slowly and menacingly advanced toward me. I was cornered.
Before they killed me, they decided to mock me. They were both stroking me and carressing me (and raking me with their sharp claw-like fingernails at the same time), and spoke to me in soft, soothing voices. They seemed to have removed the anger and hate and strength to fight from me, all I could do was sit there and miserably let them.
"Poor little Rosie..."
"We know all about you and your sad, sad life..."
"Mysteriously transformed into a big ugly, monster..."
"And then your loving family suddenly hated you and wanted to kill you..."
"Just like everyone else..."
"So now you're all alone, all your life... unloved..."
"Unwanted..."
"So sad and lonely..."
"But don't worry, we will put you out of your misery..."
They giggled again, then they started biting me all over, and sinking their claws in deeper. All I could do was sit there helplessly and cry.
"We've noticed that you're starting to have a crush on our skeleton friend, too."
"You are a necrophile, Rose."
"And even if Drago actually was a human, like he pretends to be, he could never love you."
"If he did, it would be betiality, and just plain gross!"
"We also know you still feel bad about eating people."
"But eat them anyway."
"Dozens a day."
"And it torments you."
"You poor horrible, hateful monster."
"So stupid, so ugly, so inhuman."
More giggles. They raked their claw and teeth across my face. I kept whimpering.
"You're right... Everything you're saying is right, damn it... Go ahead and skin me alive already, I deserve it..."
"You're being pretty tame and submissive now... maybe we'll change our minds again, and keep you as a pet..."
"You're a pretty amusing little monster..."
They stopped attacking me. By now I was badly wounded, bleeding all over. One of them pulled a collar and a leash out of his pocket.
"This is your last chance. If you ever attack us again..."
"Or if you stop being a good pet, and we get bored of you..."
"...We will kill you."
"But we are merciful. You can be our pet, as long as you will be completly submissive..."
"Obey our commands without hesitation..."
"Eat out of our hands..."
"Always fawn over us and be affectionate..."
"Do tricks for us and keep us entertained..."
"And always remember how lucky you are to be alive, be as loyal and humble as a dog and show your gratitude."
That sounded like a lot to ask. Normally I would have flown into a rage and torn them to pieces (or at least tried to and end up having them tear me to pieces instead) but they seemed to have magically removed all my anger, hate, fear, sadness and pain and replaced it with pure joy and bliss. I groveled at their feet and kissed their toes with my tongue. "Thank you..."
I felt one of them slip the collar onto my neck. "Come with us, we'll patch you up."
Drago was at the entrance of the cave and shot a arrow at one of the twins. "What did I tell you two?!" Drago yelled aprotching them. The twins saw drago then freaked out and hid in a corner. "W....We didnt know this was wrong.....we were just doing what monsters do.." The twins wimpered. " Kiro, Kashi, you two.....Get to the house now." Drago yelled at the twins. " Humans dont do this, and yet you two want to be friends with humans?! You two need to go home and think of what you have done!" Drago yelled agen. The twins nodded and said. "Yes father......" Drago was quiet then when they have gone he then said. "....Need to remind myself why I adopted them....." Drago then started to heal rose and got the color off of her. " Are you okay?" He asked rose.....
The twins where going home when they walked passed Ivan and the sister. "Was that being bad brother?" Kiro asked Kashi. Kashi then replyed. " I guess, I dont understand....how can it be bad if we were showing our friends our power?" Kiro then said. " Lucky father dousent know about our friend Ivan.....we should find him and turn him back...." Kashi then said. " But what if hes mad at us..." Kiro then said. "He asked to see our power.....I dont know......was that bad?" Kashi then said. " What is bad?" Kiro then replyed. " I dont know but if it makes father mad we shouldent do it....Father protected us and toght us, but we made him mad....then he turned into the skeleton....This is all your fault!" Kiro screamed pushing his brother then punched him in the face. Kashi then yelled. " Your the one to say that?! Oh please you pathetic welp!" Kashi and Kiro started fighting.
"Thank you," I said to Drago. I stared in the direction the twins had disapeared and bared my teeth. "Grrrrr... Those creeps brainwashed me so easily... I still wish I could kill them, but I suppose that would be suicide..." I sighed wearily. "You saved me a third time in a row... Now I have three debts to pay you..."
"It's okay, you don't have to repay me,"Â the skeleton said.Â
"Fine," I said. "I doubt I will be seeing you again. Primitive beasts of prey like me are meant to be solitary. Goodbye, Drago."
"Hey, where are you going?" he said. I hissed at him, before bounding out of the cave and into the trees, back towards the village to kill a human to eat and to get that stupid skeleton out of my mind. I did not care about him, I told myself. I should not be upset.
When I got there, I tore several random people to pieces, vented all my angry, confused emotions on them but only ate a few. The survivors shot arrows at me. A few hit me. But I didn't care. I curled up in the bushes and lay there, bleeding, brooding, crying.
Â
Isabel finally caught up to Ivan. "Ivan, stop!" she said. She hugged him. "It's okay, little brother... I don't know what the hell happened to you, but we have to stick together, just like we always do. That's the only way we'll survive, if I lost you I'd probably turn into a monster too."
Ivan whimpered and nuzzled her. "Um... can you still talk, Ivan? Most monsters can still talk at first..." He whimpered again. Isabel sighed. "Well, I guess we should worry about that later, I've gotta get you out of here, before you get shot..."
Just then, the twins passed by. Isabel and Ivan heard their conversation, and saw them start fighting. The girl and the monster looked at each other. "What should we do?" Isabel whispered to her brother. "They said something about turning you back, but I don't trust them, I don't want to get near them..."
Ivan made a soft rumbling sound in reply. Isabel had no idea what that meant. "I really have to teach you how to talk again..." she grumbled. He licked her face. "Eww, hey!" she said, cringing with revoltion. He smiled from ear to ear, apparently very pleased to see her disgust. Then, while she was still cringing, he lumbered over to the twins.
"Ivan!" Isabel yelled angrily, chasing after him.
"Um...Hello Kiro," said Ivan, "I heard you and your brother mention something about turning me back into a human... You sounded like you felt bad about turning me into a monster, can you turn me back?"
"Sorry, not right now," said the upsidedown Kiro.
"Where's your brother?"
"Gone. Forever."
"Forever?"
Just then Isabel came racing over.
"Turn my brother back into a human at once, you creep!" she shouted at Kiro.
"Um... Isabel, please don't shout at Kiro, he says he just lost his brother, I think it was because of their fight..."
"Can't you talk at all?!" Isabel yelled at him. "You're such a numbskull, you forgot as soon as you were transformed! This is so embarrasing!"
Ivan swatted her, knocking her over backwards. Then he lay down, pinned her down with one paw and covered her mouth with the other. She wriggled and squirmed, making angry muffled noises and looking furious. Ivan licked her. It made her shiver with revoltion, and made him chuckle.
Then he looked at Kiro again and looked serious. "So... what happened exactly? Can I help?"Â
A medieval land in some dark fantasy world.
For unknown reasons, ordinary people have been suddenly turning into horrible monsters, and devouring all those around them. At first they're still semi-human, but as time passes they become more and more montrous until there's no humanity left in them... or at least hardly any.
So in order to defend themselves, the humans have started hunting the monsters, and getting people to gaurd the outskirts of the villagers. And maybe they sacrifice people too. And the monsters start forming packs to defend themselves from their prey. (Though the monsters don't always get along, it's not uncommon for them to eat each other, though not all of them do.)
But maybe a few of the humans and monsters start becoming friends. The humans who befriend the monsters realize the monsters are actually still human inside, at least a bit. And the monsters who befriend the humans realize how truly monstrous they were to be eating them, and feel bad, and that makes them a little more human. So they start wondering if it's possible to stop people from turning into monsters, and if it's possible to turn the monsters back into humans.
