Kralji brooded silently on her favored lookout platform, scowling and glaring at nothing in particular. Her eyes were half-closed in an angry slit, her mouth in a thin line of disgust. She was supposed to be watching the main trail through their forest, for even the slightest sign of intruders or travelers. Kralji shifted slightly, the platform creaking under her weight. The last two weeks had been quite dull, as not a soul had passed through their forest, which, Kralji was delighted with, but the leaders of their village thought otherwise. She sighed, recalling to mind their words when it became evident that something was up. "We must not become at all lax or lazy during this time. Because that is exactly what the Full-bloods would want, and it would spell disaster for us and our kind." The mountain-lion chieftain had uttered that, and Kralji knew how deathly important it was. However, today she pushed the warning aside and let her mind wander. The air was humid and balmy, pressing against her skin and making her drowsy. Kralji was not in fact the least bit angry, but angry expressions just came naturally. Her companions often joked that it was perhaps a result of her Animal-born-self being an angry-faced eagle fighter. Abrubtly an indecipherable movement in the forest charapal brought her back to reality. She grabbed her weapon and pointed it at the movement. "Who goes there?! Show yourself or die!" She shouted.

Fia popped out from the bushes carrying an armfull of honeycomb she had just stolen from the bees. "Ello' Kralie! Lookie what I found!" she said excitedly and trotted over to the tense looking Animal Born. "So," She began again. "What are you up to today?" She smiled and took a bite of the honeycomb. She held it up to Kralji's face, offering some to her. "Want some? It's as fresh as it comes!" She took another big bite when they could hear more rattling in the bushes.

Kye hid in the bushes, waiting for his time to strike. He poked his head out of the bushes and quietly walked over to them on velvet paws.

Sneaking up behind them, he tried to not make a sound, which was hard for an annoying boy like him. He crept closer and closer. He heard a snap. He stepped on a twig and blew his cover. Fia turned around and stared at him. "What are you doing?" She asked.

Kye sighed. "Just trying to practice hunting." He stuck out his tongue.

"On us?" Fia returned.

"Yes."

Fia rolled her eyes and shooed him away and continued to talk to Kralji.

Dubluu was walking through the forest with his long sword at hand. He was having a bit of trouble seeing through the daylight and even said to himself "Why the bloody corpse am I out here again?" He then remembered that it was because his mother sent him out to join up in an army of other Animal-Born to attack the Full-Bloods. As he continued to walk through the forest, he noticed what seemed to be a lookout post and a few other Animal-Born. Being the straight-forward guy he is, Dubluu walked towards these other Animal-Born and shyly waved and said "Hello, my name is Caradoc, but you can simply call me Dubluu. I was sent here to attack the Full-Bloods. Am I at the right place?" Kind of scared of getting closer in case he wasn't taken kindly and attacked, he took a couple of steps back to get into his comfort zone.

Kralji stared at the honeycomb with a mix of repulsion and amusement. "Ick. Fia you know I don't eat that... gunk.."

When Kye appeared she just gave him an icy stare and ignored his smug grin. She hissed a curse under her breath and tried to forget about his existance, which was very difficult as he was just.. so. annoying!

Dubluu, however, presented a challenge. They couldn't just let any old stranger walk in on their camp- Not with so many constantly trying to invade and ruin their society. Kralji whispered a few words to Fia and then leapt off the platform. "So. You say you have come to join us, no?" She noted his fearful disposition. "You must prove yourself first. We don't allow strangers. Of any kind or form." She took a threatening step forward and hissed quietly. "We have particular dislike for traitors especially. So don't. Try. Anything." Kralji stepped back and nodded at Fia, letting her know it was her turn to show him what the Animal-borns were made of.

Fia stared at Kralji quizically. "I'm a lover, not a fighter..." She whispered to her.

Not knowing what else to do, she gave the newcomer a bright smile. "Hi! I'm Fia!" She said happily, holding out her honey-covered hand for him to shake.

Kye rolled his eyes and pushed her aside and stood in front of Dubluu with his arms crossed. "I'm the leader of the Shadows of the forest and I'll tell you if you can stay or not!" he snapped. Fia smacked him in the back of his head with a nearby stick. "You're so annoying! Don't treat new comers like that!" Fia pushed him out of the way and smiled at Dubluu again. "Don't mind Kye. he can be quite stupid from time to time. And he really isn't the leader of the assassins... he's just a leader of a bunch of ten-year-olds." She giggled and Kye crossed his arms and pouted near a tree. "If you want us to show you around, we can. You're no where near the Full-Bloods by the way." She smiled and spun around.

Kralji hissed again and looked worried. "Are you sure we can trust this guy? I mean.. We know absolutely nothing about him, he could be a full-blood himself for all we know.." She then grew silent, watching Dubluu with a critical eye, trying to decide whether he was friend or foe. Finally she let out an exasperated sigh. "Okay. We'll let you in for now, but you must not act suspicious in any way or ELSE. And we will have the Leaders and Seers see if you are really one of us. Now, come along!" She managed a tiny smile and darted across the path to a break in the foliage. When no one else followed, Kralji stared at them boredly and yelled "Fasta! Fasta! You don't want to get lost!" She began a funny little chant and whistled, her eagle mask bobbing up and down. Kralji barely checked to see if they were actually following this time.
Dubluu thought for a moment as he isn't supposed to return to his family unless he had several trophy pieces to prove his worth. Dubluu then gave a shrug and said "Sure, I guess I can stick around for a while. I've been walking through this forest all day." He then looked to his necklace as he knew why they would not take kindly to traitors. Dubluu then looked to the surroundings of the lookout post and realized that the view was quite beautiful. "So I guess you guys are lying in wait for some sort of ambush? Count me in!" said Dubluu in excitement as watched the path below. After getting bored from staring to no avail, Dubluu went back up and looked to the others. "I guess I am ready for you guys to show me around this beautiful place." said Dubluu as he continued to look at his surroundings.

Fia smiled at him. "Welcome to the group!" She peered over a nearby cliff which, at the bottom there was an old path which led to the huge camp filled with Animal-Borns.

Kye, having an acute sense of hearing, could hear the faint sounds of an old man's footsteps walking on the old path.

"Guys!" He whispered loudly. "I can hear someone walking below the cliff!" He gathered them into the bushes and they all saw an old, Full blood man taking a stroll through the forest. He had a walking stick and seemed to have a very bad limp. He didn't look like much of a threat, though they couldn't take any chances.

Kye looked at the others. "Lets get him!" He immediately jumped up, turned into a panther, and ran down the cliff to meet up with the man. He stopped the man and let out a loud growl, knocking the man onto his backside.

"P-please don't hurt me! I-I'm just a peaceful traveler."The man stuttered.

Kye glared at the man and waited for the others to join him.

Kralji was caught off guard, and took a few seconds to comprehend what was going on. Then she realized- Someone was intruding- Someone that could be very dangerous, despite his frail looks. She siezed her javlin and motioned for Fia and Dubluu to come with, quickly joined Kye. Her angry, stony expression soon turned to pity, then digust. "Kye.. I don't think it was entirely neccesary to terrify this poor old man, don't you think?" Kralji brushed a few tangled strands of hair out of her eyes, and shoved the growling panther aside. "He's probably just out walking as he says- Or perhaps he's a dangerous traitor out to destroy us."  She glanced at Fia for an answer, and then noticed the intruder was carrying a flimsy woven basket, tightly closed. "Perhaps this will give us a clue to your identity. She replied as she siezed it gently. The old man made no move to resist, just looked up fearfully at them. "Hmph. I don't know why we go around attacking people without cause. The less that know about us the better." She muttered while glaring at Kye. "Dubluu, help me open this would you?"

Dubluu turned into an Inostrancevia and followed the others down the cliff. When he finally caught up to the group, Dubluu gave the old Full-blood a loud and deep roar as he showed off his saber fangs. If this wasn't proof that Dubluu was an Animal-Born, then he didn't know what is. When he heard Kralji say for him to help open a basket, he grabbed the basket with his teeth and dragged it away to try to look inside. Unfortunately, all he was doing was scratching up the basket and then simply turned back to his human form and opened up the basket. Not looking inside, Dubluu simply handed the basket to the others for them to look inside. He looked to the old man on the ground with a demented glare. Dubluu analized the man's figure to see what part of him would make a great trophy. He looked to the man's hands and thought to himself "Those hands would make fine trinkets."

Kye grew tired of waiting for the others to open the basket. He lunged toward the old man who yelled in fear, but Kye was suddenly knocked out of the air and onto the ground. Where he used to be, stood Fia is bear form. She snorted and stood up on her hind legs, wiping her front paws on her stomach.  â€œDon’t hurt the poor man Kye! He was just a traveller and has nothing to do with us!”

Kye rolled his eyes and stood up, turning back into a human. He snatched the basket from the others and tore it open. He pulled out what seemed to be a small knife.

“Then explain this.” He showed the knife to everyone.

“He was probably just trying to protect himself from crazy people like you!” She shouted and walked away into the forest.

During the argument, the old man managed to scamper off back to where he had come from.

Kralji huffed angerly and shifted from one foot to the other, staring at Kye with a expression of anger and bewilderment. "You know... Now he's just going to go off and tell ALL his ugly full-blood companions about our little scuffle, and they'll be running through here like a bear during the salmon run!" She hissed. "Speaking of bears, I should go find Fia now." Kralji changed to her eagle form, glad to be free of the gravity-bound creatures for at least a little while. "Kye.. Go find something useful to do. Something that doesn't involve killing innocent old men. M'kay? Um.. Dubluu, come with me I guess.." She shrieked and took to the air, continuing to hiss curses at Kye. She didn't like him one bit. Perhaps it was just a result of the natural hostilities of their animal forms, or his constant stuck-up attitude. Kralji hovered for just a moment, waiting for Dubluu.
Dubluu was dissapointed that he and the other Animal-Born didn't get to kill the elderly Full-Blood. "Aw man, his hands would have made fine trinkets." said the bloodthirsty teenager as he pouted. Dubluu then thought to himself "There is always next time, Caradoc, there is always next time to carve some Full-Blood skulls." He witnessed Kralji turn into an eagle and fly off above him. Dubluu gave a shrug and then turned into his Inostrancevia form and followed his comrade to what he believed to be battle. Dubluu had it all through his mind, the blood, the bones, the innards, and the glory. Deep down, Dubluu wanted to kill in the name of his family and by the gods themselves, he wanted to do it. The gorgonopsian continued to follow after the eagle through the forest in search of conquest with a slight salivation in his dagger-toothed pair of maws.

Fia went to her usual spot after fighting with Kye. It was on a little rock ledge near the river. She fought with Kye a lot so she visited this place often. She usually just sat on the rock and stared at the water as if flowed past her and sometimes she would stick her toes into the cool water.  She heard the footsteps of the others in the trees. She sighed and took out her knife and examined it. “I wish I was braver…” She muttered and set the knife down.

Kye rolled his eyes at them and made his way back to the camp. “They’re so pathetic.” He muttered to himself. “…can’t even kill a pathetic old full-blood; let alone a healthy adult one.” He hissed and finally made it back to the camp.

Fia sighed and stood up. She walked into the forest where she heard the sounds of her friends.

Kralji swooped low over the river, hungerly eyeing the silvery trout floating just under the surface. Seeing her friend so despondent, she turned back and came to rest on a thick branch above Fia's head. She began to speak slowly, in the raspy tounge of the eagle that was only understandable to other Animal-borns. "Hello Fia.. What's wrong?.. I do hope Kye isn't getting to you, we all know how well he gets on one's nerves.." Waiting for a response, she swiveled her head sideways to make sure Dubluu was still coming, hopefully he wasn't lost already.. "We should probably head back to camp fairly soon, to tell the leaders to send someone else for the survellince watch.." Kralji suddenly seemed to remember something, and her eyes lit up gleefully. She hopped dramatically from her branch to another. "You remember what today is don't you? Only a heartless fool would forget.." She smiled and made a disturbing gutteral noise deep in her throat that sounded like a dying warthog.

Plot

In the quiet old city of Merlace, tretchery is brewing.

The king has changed and the people are just getting used to his new laws and whatnot, but there are a few individuals that believe the king is a lie and everything he's doing is a trick and a lie.

These people are among the descendants of the very first people that lived here; the natives. They are a very special type of people, for they are the closest to animals. Therefore, they can 'shapeshift' into their 'Birth Animal'. A Birth Animal is the animal that a person is born with (obviously) but it varies from person to person. One person might be a frog, while another is a bear.

These groups of people are usually frowned upon by the newer, full-blood humans. But, the full-bloods don't know that their beloved king is a very very evil man.

The revolution against the king begins with a few Animal-Born's in the forest. They devised a plan to kill the king and put the rightful one in his place. They become the 'Shadows of the Forest"; an elite group of Animal-Born assassins that's main goal is to protect the innocent and drive out the imposters.

Though, soon enough, the king learns of this and tried to make every effort to stop these animals. He sets a decree to kill any animal that makes their way into the town, for you cant tell if an animal is actually a human or not. this caused the Animal-Borns to be driven into the forest and live like their ancestors did; Wild.

Soon, the Shadows of the Forest began recruiting more Animal-Borns.

Your job is to join the Shadows and become as great as their leader, and soon, bring peace to this troubled land shrouded in darkness and hatered.

History

Long ago the Animal-Borns lived in peace and protected the Ancient forest. The great city once had a wonderful and kind king; King Larcentax. But, he died in his old and wise age and the people chose a new king. But, the king grew greedy and overtook this land and claimed it for their own, driving the Animal-Borns out of the land and back into the Ancient forest to hide in fear.

To this day the Animal-Borns are living in fear that the king will tear down the entire forest. But, they have hope; the Shadows of the Forest.
