Riolar was laying down, trying to bite at an annoying itch. Once he had finally got to it, he stood up again and shook his fur. He welcomed the sun's warmth on his brown fur. He decided that he would have the sun warm him before he did anything today, so he lied down, resting his head on his paws and closing his eyes lightly.
Â
Farren was watching the pups as they woke up, begging their mothers for food. She couldn't help but smile, they were so adorable no matter what they did, in her eyes. She continued watching as they were fed, and they bumbled out of the den to play a small wrestling game with each other.
Little Wolf yawned when the sun rose and hit her eyes. Blinking rapidly, she stood and shook out her black fur to dislodge any stray leaves or twigs that may have stuck there while she slept, before quickly loping towards the mothers' den.
Wonder who Quidam is going to send out hunting today. Little Wolf wondered, before sitting down beside Farren to watch the pups and their mothers.
"Morning Farren." Little Wolf greeted and started licking her chest fur smooth, giving her fellow she-wolf a wolfish grin when she was done. Little Wolf turned her gaze to the where some of the older pups were play fighting with each other, shaking her head fondly when they tripped over their too big paws.
Hearing the rest of the pack awakening, Quidam stood up and shook out her fur with a reluctant yawn. Exiting her den, she padded into the clearing. She saw the females sitting by the pups, watching them with amusement and fondness as they tumbled about. Riolar was laying in the sunlight with his eyes closed.Â
Â
She'd let the wolves choose whether or not they hunted and if they did, then when. As long as no one was doing wrong, she was fine with letting the pack have the freedom of choice. Besides that, the forest was rich with prey, so it wasn't as if they'd be going hungry.Â
Â
Stepping out into the clearing, she bit back another yawn, calling out a greeting to the pack. "You may go hunting individually, in groups, or whatever you wish," she said, "just make sure the mothers and pups get food. When and where you go hunting is up to you."
 *Okay*
Riolar raised his head sleepily and looked at the alpha. He stood up and shook his thick pelt again. "Farren, want to go hunting? Maybe we can take down a small deer if we try hard enough."
Faren nodded to Little Wolf. "God morning." She heard Riolar's invitation and smiled at her brother. "Of course! Little Wolf, do you want to come too? You can't never have enough wolves out hunting, especially with deer. They can be quite fast, I'm sure we all know about them." She gave her new a friend a wolfish smile. She felt strangely kind today.
Satisfied with the instructions she had given and happy to see the pack being friendly toward each other, Quidam headed out on her own to find a few small animals for prey. She didn't feel extremely hungry, so she'd hunt for the whelping females first. Lifting her muzzle to the breeze, she picked out the scent of rabbit and headed off toward it at a trot.Â
As the scent became stronger, she slowed to a walk. Finally, she spotted the small animal. It was chewing on some type of plant and hopping slowly along to find more food. Dropping into a crouch, she stalked toward it. When she was close enough, she lunged at the rabbit, dispatching it with a sharp nip to the back of the neck.Â
By the time she was done hunting for the mothers, she had a rabbit and two birds. That would be enough to feed them, she decided.
Little Wolf stood and stretched slightly, but shook her head. "No thanks Farren. I think I'll go to the beach and catch some fish. It's been awhile since the pack had any."
Little Wolf gave the siblings a wolfish grin, before loping out of the canyon towards the beach, hopefully to catch some fish in shallows. It didn't take long for the small she-wolf to reach the beacha and once she did, Little Wolf took a moment to enjoy the slight breeze that was blowing, then she proceeded to the shore line. Wading into the slightly cold water, Little Wolf stood patiently waiting for any fish to swim by.
Quidam was just about to head back to the pack when she heard a rustling in the undergrowth. Although the scent of the newly-killed prey filled her nose, she barely caught a whiff of a foreign scent. This was not one of the pack. Nor was it a loner, as far as she could tell. Dropping the prey, she crept closer toward the scent. Peering out from underneath a fern, she spotted the creature. It was strange. It was black with shiny, almost scaly looking skin. It looked similar to a coyote in body shape, but when it opened its mouth it was filled with curved teeth like that of a crocodile and even from her hiding spot she could smell a rotting scent. Its paws had longer toes ending in talon-like claws.Â
Â
Quidam backed up very cautiously and as silently as she could. This was not an enemy she wished to take on by herself, and especially without having any knowledge about them. Silently, she returned to her prey, gathered it up, and loped back to camp.
A few minutes after finishing up hunting, Quidam arrived back in camp, dropping her catch at the mothers' paws. Seeing Riolar and Farren sharing prey, she trotted over to them. Sitting down, she said to them, "You'll never believe what I saw hunting," and described the odd creature she'd discovered earlier. "To be honest, it looked pretty dangerous and I'd like to find out more about them. Maybe it's another genetic mishap the company is responsible for," she added, referring to the company who had dumped their ancestors here long ago.
Â
"Anyway, just be aware when going out from now on," she finished. She leaned her head to chew a knot in her fur, thinking to herself.
Little Wolf trodded back to camp, three medium size fish in her jaws. Suddenly, a foreign scent reached her noise despite the obnoxious scent of the fish. Little Wolf carefully placed the fish on the grass before going to investigate the source of the smell. The she-wolf stalked cautiously into the woods, following the scent trail and paused when the bushes a few yards away from her began to rustle.
Little Wolf recoiled slightly when she saw a black snout full of sharp, curved teeth push through the underbrush. Little Wolf had now idea what the strange creature was, so she back away quietly, thankful that she was downwind of the creature. Once she was sure that the creature hadn't spotted her, Little Wolf raced back to catch and quickly scooping the fish up, she raised back to camp. She had to tell Quidam about the strange creature.
Quidam nipped at the tangle in her fur until it loosened and she could smooth it out. I hope Little Wolf didn't run into one of those creatures, she thought. Suddenly, she could hear thudding paws nearing camp. Breathing in the scent, she recognized it as Little Wolf's. She couldn't detect any blood tinging the air with its sharp scent.Â
Little Wolf bolted into camp, carrying a three fish. She looked rather alarmed, as if she had seen something that worried her. She must have been down by the beach to catch those fish, Quidam realized. Surely those creatures aren't all over the island already? She hoped that whatever seemed to have startled Little Wolf wasn't actually one of the strange black creatures, but a sneaking suspicion nagged at her.
A large island with a few small mountains to the north, an inland forest, and a beach/coastal type desert to the south.
The Mountain Canyons are home to the pack. The pack lives in caves within a valley. In order to reach the pack's home, you must pass through a tunnel underneath a waterfall.
The Forest is the hunting land for the pack. It is lush and green, filled not only with prey but also with diverse species of insects, birds, and medicinal plants.
The Beach runs all the way around the island, but the largest portion is in the southern part of the island. The sand is fine, nearly white, and the water is a clear blue.
The ancestors of the abandoned wolves had lived comfortably on this island for years. Suddenly, a mysterious danger threatens them and they must unite or perish. What will you choose?
WOLF ANATOMY
Head: The head of these wolves is proportionate to the body. Their ears are large and erect. The eyes are large and almond shaped. The muzzle is finely shaped and they have a scissor bite.
Body: Their withers are slightly higher than the haunches. The shoulders are strong and the forelegs have a musculature similar to that of a big cat's, allowing them to grasp their prey better and even climb trees fairly well. The back legs are also powerful. They have large paws and semi-retractable claws. They are strong overall and well-muscled, although they are still lean and sleek. The females have a slightly leaner, lighter shape than the males.
Fur/Coat: As stated before, odd color combinations and markings are not uncommon. Chimerism, albinism, and melanism are all possible. The fur has a waterproof, coarser outer layer and a thin, downy underlayer.
Tail: -Fail category :P- The tail is slightly longer in comparison to that of a normal wolf's. It helps to balance them when running or swimming, which they are quite adept at. The fur is thick and soft.
Generations ago, the wolves that live on this island used to be werewolves. They were tied to a company who tested them and genetically modified them in ways they couldn't predict. As wolves they had unusual genetics with things such as chimerism, heterochromia (due to chimerism), albinism, and melanism possible, even common. Somehow, word got out about them being werewolves. The company called them in and sedated them. When they woke up, they were in a crate and unable to change into human form. The crate tipped and fell, crashing into a forest clearing and sending the wolves tumbling out. To this day, it is unknown where they were left.
