READ: The act of Mini-modding [And of Reading the Rules]
Hey guys!

After a conversation with a few mods, it turns out that there are a few matters that we feel need addresing.

So first off...

Understanding the Rules - It's your job, not ours

Upon joining, you were asked to read the Terms of Service, and agree to follow them. This is the first set of rules that you should know, and follow, if you wish to play the game. You are warned, within the ToS, that failure to abide by these rules will result in warnings, fines and/or bans.

If you skipped over the ToS, I strongly advise you to read it now. Because those warnings do happen, I'm afraid, and "I didn't read it all" isn't an excuse.

The second set of rules you should be aware of are the Chat and Forum guidelines. These apply to the whole site, not only the forums and chat. You are expected to behave, no matter where.

Again, I would read these, since the same excuse of "I didn't read them"is not enough.

Now, you may be wondering why I included those, even thouh the topic is named "The act of Mini-modding". Honestly, becaue it's important. And people aren't reading either of them, cause trouble and then wonder why they have to face the consequences.

The other reason is to remind you that these are the rules that our team of Moderators enforces here. On both sets, not just one. The rules are the equivalent of laws, and we are the equivalent of the police, or whatever you call the law enforcers where you live. ;)

Which brings me onto the actual topic.

Mini-Modding

The Real Deal

Firstly, I want to explain to you who I am.

I'm Kitei. I'm a Exhibited Moderater, as you may have seen in news posts. On our team we have Herbal, Bob, Levi, Rykos, Clara and Paya. And of course, we have Kitty, Admin of Ex, and the owner of the game.
That makes up the moderating team on Exhibited. And they're all fantastic, believe me. <3

I'm not sure if you all know what moderators are, and what role they play in the game, and if you're one of those people who don't have a clue, then hopefully this will help you.

Moderators are literally the equivalent of a police force. We "patrol" the site, we investigate matters we are suspicious of, we follow the rules and make sure that you follow them, and we listen to player's worries, requests and complaints. We are here to make sure that everyone stays within the lines.

And the act of..

Mini-modding is usually defined as someone who attempts to do the job of the actual mods. Unfortunately, this is often because they want to show off their knowledge of the site, they want to impress people or, ultimately, because they aspire to be a Mod.

Don't misunderstand me; it's very important that all players know and follow the rules. The trouble here is that it is a Moderator's job to correct wrong-doings on Exhibitd not a player's job. You may want to be helpful, but mini-modding is a big no-no.

Why? Isn't it helpful?

Contrary to what you may think, mini-moding often causes much more trouble than help or assistance. Players often get irritated when another player, without Mod status, attempts to correct them on something. This can lead to arguments, "rivalries" and plain rudeness within player interactions. This, in turn, adds more work for us, and makes doing our job a lot harder.

So when the response, "I was trying to help" comes up after an argument, it is still not an excuse. If you were unpleasant in the argument or discussion, or tried to cause trouble and rife, then you will have to face the consequences of it, as well. We wont make exceptions just because you tried to help.

So you expect us to ignore things?!

Not quite. Although a friendly reminder may be helpful, every now and again, for things like posting in all caps, etc, but trying to correct behavior, threatening people with punishments, insulting them or generally "trying to do our job" is not allowed. But that does not mean you have to ignore it.

You may have noticed that under your name in the top right, there is a link to the modbox. It isn't just a fancy decoration. What you do in situations like this is to;
1) Take some screenshots
2) Submit a report to the modbox with a relevant title, and include the screenshots and a fairly detailed account of what the problem is.
3) Wait for a mod to arrive and deal with the matter

With screenshots, it means we can deal with an issue even if it happened hours before we logged on. Reporting things to the modbox also means that they get dealt with faster than if you just leave it.

We do not ignore anything that coms into the modbox. If you can't see something happening, it's usually because we are dealing with it in private. Often, we discuss issues as well, so you don't need to worry about people being biast when dealing with reports. We can see what they do, anyway, so not even mods can get away with things. :D

In summary..

There are two -very- basic messages here.

Firstly, read the rules, and make sure you understand them. If you aren't quite sure on one thing, then clarify with a mod. It's your responsibility to make sure you know the rules and follow them.

Secondly, leave the mod's jobs to them. Don't try to take control of situations, lecture players or generally show off. It merits nothing. Instead, use the mod box to report problems, or even message a mod who is online.

Thanks for reading this, I'm sorry it turned into a lecture,

Very well written, I think we definitely needed this. I know how common it is for people to just skip out on reading rules, and terms of service. Hopefully this post will prevent some future mishaps.
