Zarya awoke to the prickling of her skin, the surest sign of the change. Crap, I slept in! LAuching herself out of bed, she raced to the window of her small apartment bedroom, and yanked it open. The sun's rays were peeking delicately over the horizon, but Zarya had no time to injoy it. she bit her tounge as electricity ran up her veins. Her bones began to shrink and change, feathers poked from her skin, a beak fromed.
Breathing heavily, Zarya finally shep her human form and entered her cursed one, the Raven. The pain grew less as time went by during the change, but it never went away. Fluttering to the windowsill, she hopped out into the cool, morning air and took wing up to the top of the building to sun herself and get warm and wake up. I hate it when I sleep in, it makes the change so much worse...Devyn crawled out of the old shed behind the abandoned house. The shed had been his most recent shelter since his twin brother had found him in a washed out warehouse downtown. The curse was becoming stronger. Devyn was barely able to distract his brother this time, long enough to escape. He was able to get away, but not without injury. He winced, standing up, his ribs were still sore from being kicked in the chest, and the skin on his wrists showed angry red bruises where his brother had held him tightly.
The morning sun was bright and clear. Devyn shielded his eyes with his hand and glanced up and down the street. There wasn't much going on. It was still too early for people to be out and about yet. The only thing he noticed was a dark bird flutter up and land on the roof of a house a few doors down.
Devyn glanced up and down the street. Besides the raven, which fluttered off after a few minutes, there wasn't a single sign of life. Good, Devyn thought, better not to be seen. He couldn't risk another encounter with his brother. Not now any way.
He breathed in the early morning air, fresh and cool in his lungs. His ribs twinged a bit, but it was good to clear his head from the musty air of the shed he had been sleeping in. His stomach grumbled. He hadn't eaten since early yesterday morning, and he hadn't had that much to eat either. He was running on fumes. Unfortunately, he didn't have any money left, as the last of his cash had been spent a long time ago, and he didn't dare venture back home to get more. He knew a good restaurant downtown that had decent trash.
Devyn couldn't decide if he wanted to risk digging through the trash in broad daylight, but he didn't think he could go the rest of the day without eating. After watching the place from across the street, he ventured inside the patio gate and seated himself at one of the tables. He had never ditched from a place without paying before, but he made up his mind he would come back later and pay for his meal. While he was waiting for a server to come, he noticed the raven preening itself on the patio sign.
An eerie feeling swept over Zarya, causing her to hesitate in her preening. Looking around her, she noticed a boy was staring intently at her. Could he know I am cursed? the though flitted across her mind. No, he is simply curious. Well, always leave them with more questions than they came with. She laughed to herself.
Zarya took flight, and landed on the table the boy was seated at. Zarya turned her head to the side for a moment, an inquisitive gesture, before dipping he head and sweeping one wing out to the side; a bow. The other people laughed and pointed at her. Many people began whispering. "I wonder how he trained the bird?" "Is it his bird?" "Isn't that a raven?" A few people who hadn't said anything threw a couple tens on the table before turning back to their food. Hmmm, this could turn interesting....
Devyn didn't know how to react. The bird was bowing, like a dapper gentleman introducing himself to pleasant company. And people were tossing money on his table. He didn't understand. "I... uh... The bird. It's trained." He quickly grabbed the money, stuffing it into his pocket, before people changed their minds and asked for it back. His eyes flicked to the raven. If it knew how to perform tricks, hopefully it knew when to stop. He really did not want to draw unneeded attention to himself, especially in such a public place.
He skimmed through the menu. Many of the items were expensive and Devyn figured he was paying for the chef's services and not so much the food itself. He decided to get a cheaper appetizer and save the rest of the money for the super market where he would get more food for less money.
Devyn ordered a salad and a soda from he waiter. When the dish was brought to him, he grabbed the salad dressing and his fork. Ready to dig in.
Zarya found it amusing that he claimed to have trained her. He seemed unwilling to draw attention, and he ordered a salad. The waitress gave her and angry glance the she was pretty sure the boy missed. Zarya's stomach growled. Ah, screw it. I got the kid money, he is going to share whether he likes it or not.
She snaked down, snatching a cherry tomato from the salad. She then set it down and grabbed another, three crutons, and and onion slice. When she was satisfyed she began to eat these things greedily. She didn't have to eat that much in bird form, but a good meal was in order. Zarya constantly kept an eye on the boy at all times. He isn't that bad looking, even though he has dirt on his face... When the thought crossed her mind, Zarya almost choked. Where had THAT thought come from? She had never been in a relationship and she couldn't see anyone accepting her curse. Maybe I could tell him....
Devyn paused before taking his first bite. Did the bird just wink at him? He blinked several times, trying to shake the thought from his mind. He kept reminding himself that he had to keep a level head if he was going to find out what was wrong with his brother. Suddenly the bird flew down, landed on his table, and snatched a cherry tomato right off his plate. Devyn stared wide-eyed as the bird continued to help herself to croutons and an onion slice. She was definitely smiling at him, if birds could smile. I must be going crazy, Devyn thought, but no one else on the patio seemed to notice. Well, I guess she is my trained bird now, Devyn mused.
As he was about to eat his salad, a voice started screaming at him. "HOW DARE YOU!" Startled, Devyn dropped his fork and whipped around, expecting his brother to be standing behind him, ready to grab his neck in a death-grip. But there was no one there. Devyn looked at the other patrons sitting at their tables. After the bird has stopped performing tricks, they all returned to their meals, the novelty now worn off. No one was even looking at him. Who had spoken? The voice continued to scold him for the salad he ordered. He looked at the bird. The voice wasn't coming from her. It's like the screaming came from inside his own brain. He clutched his head, as if in agony, and writhed in his seat, waiting for pain to come. Maybe he too was going crazy like his brother did...
The voice slammed into Zarya, and she instantly knew it was no one talking. The boy was whithering in pain, but Zarya knew better. Being cursed had taught her a few things. Glancing around she noticed a plant next to their table that she knew hadn't been there before. Point one for bird observation.
Aiming her thoughts at the plant, she speared her reply back at him. "HOW DARE YOU! DO YOU KNOW HOW MUCH FOLIAGE COWS EAT IN A DAY? DID YOU KNOW THAT SOCITIY NOW GRINDS CORN UP AND MIXES IT WITH HAMBURGER MEAT SO THEY WILL MAKE MORE MONEY? BESIDES, IT ALL GOING BACK TO YOU BECAUSE YOU AND YOUR LITTLE PLANT BUDDIES EAT THE STUFF THAT COMES OUT OF OUR BUTTS. IF YOU AAK ME, THATS MORE DESGUSTIONG THAN EATING PLANTS THAT DON'T ACTUALLY HAVE FEELING BECAUSE THEY ARN'T DEMONS. AND QUITE DOWN, JEEZE, YOUR GOING TO MAKE EVERYONE THINK THEY ARE SCITZAFRENIC. Zarya had no comfort in mind-narrowed demons.
PLANT, now quite infuriated, snarkily replied; "AS A MATTER IF FACT I KNOW EXACTLY HOW MUCH FOLIAGE COWS EAT IN A DAY STOP AND THAT IS EXACTLY WHY I WHOLEHEARTEDLY APPROVE OF THEIR SLAUGHTER STOP AND DID IT EVER OCCUR TO YOU THAT WE ARE INSIDE OF A HIGH STANDARDS RESTAURANT WHICH IS ACTUALLY KNOWN FOR ITS TENDENCY TO SERVE PURE BEEF STOP AND DO YOU HAVE ANY IDEA OF THE SIMPLY VAST REPOSITORIES OF HELPFUL TENDENCIES THAT MODERN PLANTS POSSES AND FREQUENTLY MAKE USE OF STOP PERHAPS ONE SHOULD CONSIDER THE OVERWHELMING BENEFITS OF A POSSIBLE FRIENDSHIP WITH PLANTS RATHER THAN SUPPORTING THEIR SLAUGHTER WITHOUT A SINGLE THOUGH TO THE WELL BEING OR MORAL CODE OF PLANTS STOP NOW EXCUSE ME ANIMAL TRASH BUT I HAVE BRETHREN MERE CHILDREN TO LIBERATE STOP FOR THEIR ARE EVEN YET UNBORN SEEDS WITHIN THE TOMATO FRUIT YOU AND YOUR COMPANION HAVE SO READILY DEVOURED STOP" PLANT now shifted his attention to the original subject, now saying, "RELEASE THE UNBORN ONES AT ONCE STOP OR I WILL BE FORCED TO TAKE STOP STOP STOP EXTREME MEASURES STOP"

(As you can tell, this character will be mostly conversation. XD)
Choking smog, hazed horizons, honking cars, cell phones ringing, concrete and steel.... yep we're in the city. The city is similar to New York with skyscrapers, exhaust, and everything in between. A few safe havens dot the city every once in a while, creating small spaces for trees and bushes, leaves and flowers, dust and dirt that's not created by cars.
While it is the typical city, the battle for the cosmos starts here of all places. The humans continue to live their buisy lives un aware of their true surroundings of myths and lore. So now, the upturning of life itself must be kept secret.

A strange and haunting dream that others seem to share, that is the beginning of your quest.
Yin an Yang have been thrown completely and utterly out of whack. The incarnations exist among us, but Yang has mysteriously disappeared. The world teeters precariously on the edge of disaster as Yin races to awaken the Great Chaos and throw the world into ruin. You have been chosen to save the cosmos... or destroy it. Nothing is as it seems, and doubts have begun to arise as to which side is truly one to be on. You can trust in only one thing, yourself.
Without evil there can be no good, yet evil can exist by itself. With Yang missing, the Great Order can no longer reach the world to ensure not all is lost, leaving it to you. In the ever-changing world you must keep dark secrets, and reveal darker truths to save the clueless planet.
With the strange dream captured in your mind, it is up to you to decide your fate. Will you join the side that is winning? or the one that is sure to lose?
First, there was only Chaos. Nothing made sense, everything was Topsy-turby. From Chaos's shadow rose Order, challenging Chaos's throne. They battled for centuries, neither able to get the upper hand. Eventually, a truce was struck. A world where order and Chaos would coexist in unease.
This plan did not last long. Chaos soon pushed back to regain the world, desperate for a taste of his past ruling. Again they came to a truce.
Order and Chaos battled a third time, and once this quited down the decided to create to beings who would carry out endless battles for them, thus creating Yin and Yang. They determined neither of them could enter the world unless awakened by Yin or Yang, but they constantly foiled eachother's attempts to wake the greats. This has worked for a millenia, but now one half of the equation is missing and Chaos's thirst for power awakens once more.
Yin is the server of Chaos. He is evil incarnated; scheming, arrogant, self-centered, and violent. Yin's only balance is Yang, good incarnated; friendly, reflective, caring, and thoughtful.
All the normal rules. ;D
No mythical creatures like dragons and unicorns. Sorry. The purpose is to stay hidden in society, and frankly, I find it leads to power-playing.
No inter-species communication. Dogs can't talk to humans, even if they are shape shifters. To be able to speak to a human, you must be a human. And visa verse. However, this doesn't mean you can't understand a human when in animal form. *edit* Dog-cat communication does work, but it is rough. Not every word would be understood, but enough to get the point across. :D
ÂÂÂÂ
Regarding Shape-Shifters: IT IS PAINFUL! I mean, come on! Your bones, organs, and tissues are rearranging themselves. Also, it takes a minute to fully transform. There is no 'Poof! I'm an animal!'
Regarding Cursed Ones: Their cursed, it not their will to be cursed yet they are. they won't enjoy it. Curses can be anything from never being able to love, to being cursed to be an animal half the time.
Regarding Demons: You are not necessarily evil, but you have sided with Chaos in the past. Remember this. Also, while you have a true demon form, you can transform into a Human form.
Regarding Humans: You know nothing of this other world! You must think of a creative way for your character to stumble upon this hidden society.
