Acrocanthosaurus
Acrocanthosaurus belonged to a family of large carnosaurs called the spinosaurids, which were distinguished from all other meat-eating dinosaurs by strange boney spines jutting up from their backbones. In some members of the group, such as Spinosaurus, the spines reached 6' in length and probably supported great sails of skin stretching from the shoulders to the base of the tail. Acrocanthosaurus's spines may have supported a long, thin ridge of muscle down the dinosaur's back, forming a low but pronounced crest, but are not sure how this structure might have been used.
Physical Characteristics: 43' long; one of the largest carnosaurs. Think, strong hind limbs carried its enormous weigt. Toes and fingers tipped with sharp claws. Head comparatively small; jaws lined with sharp curved teeth and serrated for the tearing of flesh.
Fossil sites: Oklaoma, USA
