Arran looked around as he stepped out onto the roof of the building, pulling out a pair of binoculars and looking out over the city below. Every day he came out here, hoping he'd see another chopper or something, something he could signal to get him out of there. He wasn't sure why. It had been 12 years since everything had gone to hell, and no one had come back for him. Or any of the other survivors who had been left behind when the evac zones were overrun. But he didn't want to give up hope that maybe someday there would be a end to this. He had heard that there were people trying to find a cure to..whatever this was, but so far every attempt had failed. "Maybe I should leave the city", he thought. There was a old helicoptor he had found, likely left behind from when the army was still around, on a rooftop nearby he could take as long as it was still working, but he thought maybe he should just stay there. In case someone did come back for him.
Steve quickly ran into an old apartment, slamming the door behind him as 5 zombies were chasing him. The apartment's top roof was gone and there were some holes in the floor below. The zombies began to beat on the door quickly, so he ran up to the next floor and ran into one of the apartment homes.
Â
"Where can I find a weapon!" he muttered, "How can I defend myself against these things without a weapon!"
Â
He looked around in the home and saw a baseball hat in the first room.
Â
"Maybe there's a bat around here if these people like baseball.." He wondered, soon finding a bat and picking it up. He got a few pillows and hung them from the ceiling with some string.
Â
"Ok, i got the weapon, now to practice the skills but first I gotta block up the door" he said to himself, he didn't like the idea of complete silence.
Â
He pushed tables, chairs, even couches over to block the door. He could hear the zombies trying to get in by now but the door wouldn't budge.
Â
"Yes!" he said to himself once again. He then began to hit a few pillows with the wooden baseball bat.
Sarah was out in the forest that used to be a park in dragon form prowling around right in the middle of a bunch of zombies just because she was bored out of her skull. She saw some guy with binoculars and some other guy run into an apartment building and beat the crap out of a pillow. In this form she could sneak around and find a spot to snipe zombies in human form if she wanted to but then she had to decontaminate her arrows before she could use them again. She could make her own ammo if she had to. Gramps had taught her the native american ways and how to make ammunition for the crossbow if she had the equipment. He did run an archery shop back when he was alive. She missed her gramps and granny. Not those stupid parents. They would have had her helpless. It was her powers and wits keeping her alive. If she had gone with her parent's wishes she would have died along with the grandchildren she would have given them. Her grandfather had died of a heart attack after taking fifty zombies out with his old service rifle. Granny had passed in her sleep peacefully before all this. Sarah knew these things did not try to climb trees unless they sensed human prey. If she hoisted herself into the tree near that one apartment she had a clear shot to snipe zombies... But millitary man might spot her...
Arran made his way down from the roof and into the parking garage, finding his truck, he started it up and drove out. Running over a couple of zombies as he did. Even if he wasn't going to use it right away he wanted to scope out the area around the helicopter he had spotted, and the building it was parked on top of to make sure it wasn't infested. He looked around as he drove, seeing the remains of cars and other vehicles that had long since been abbandoned and had broken down. He had this truck from the begining and had taken good care of it, but the he was running out of fuel. Every once in a while he would go out on a supply run to get more food and things, including fuel for the truck but he was running out of places he could think of to get it. He pulled up to the building that he spotted the helicoptor on top of. It appeared to be a old hospital. He got out of the truck, gripping a pistol in one hand and a knife in the other. He only used his guns as a last resort. Too much noise would attract zombies. Usualy a whole lot of them. Arran remembered the old zombie movies he used to watch, how slow moving they were in them, but these were much different. If he attracted a horde of them, it would take a alot of firepower to fight them off. Power he didn't exactly have. He walked up to the entrance of the hospital and opened the door, stepping inside, he looked around, he couldn't see anything, but it wasn't long before he stepped on something, he turned his light on and looked down, almost throwing up. There were many bodies scattered around the room, it looked like some survivors had tried to make a stand in the hospital, and they didn't make it. He stepped back a bit, and tried to step around them, being carefull, knowing any one of them could be a zombie just waiting for him to pass by and sink their teeth into his leg.
Steve broke the string the final pillow was on. The room was covered in feathers from the three pillows, which now lie on the ground.
Â
"That's enough practice" He said to himself, he looked over at the door where he could still hear the zombies banging on the door. He then glanced at the window.
Â
"Hmm, I wonder if there are any long ranged weapons in here. If only I grabbed my hunting rifle when I ran away from home" he muttered.
Â
He looked around in the other rooms and came back to the main room holding a toy gun.
Â
"Man I wish this was real, I'm gonna need some kind of long ranged weapon." He looked at the door and ran over to it, pushing the things blocking it out of the way. He opened the door and bashed the zombies in the head with his baseball bat. He ran upstairs and while he had to kill a few zombies along the way, there weren't many. On the next floor he slammed the door and blocked it with things like last time. He also locked it.
Â
"Maybe I can find something in here"He said to himself as he looked around.
Carl thought it was time to go, get out of his camp where he had stayed for.. He doesn't even know how long he's been there. He decides to finally pack his stuff and move ou to the city to look for more survivors and maybe some ammunition. He is going to leave his camp behind, after all those days and nights. All he takes with him is his knife, his rifle, his backpack which has 2 pieces of meat and 1 water bottle in it and piece of charcoal from his fireplace, he might need that sometime te leave a sign for other survivors. He then sets off for his journey to the city. It should be about 10 miles to the city, he remembers. He decides to take it easy and walk in a relaxed pace. So his journey begins...
Arran searched through the building. There was blood everywhere. Arran tried to stop himself from throwing up. Even after 12 years, he wasn't used to this somehow. Many infected people were moved to this hospital when the outbreak hit. Before people really knew what was going on..when the infected died and began to rise again, the military was moved into the hospital to deal with it..Arran wasn't apart of it..thankfully, he thought. He had heard that the soldiers were ordered to kill anyone inside, since there were all ready infected people turned into zombies in the building, and they were told that anyone could be infected. No one was left alive, and the hospital was abbandoned. He knew some people after they pulled out had used the building as a place to stay but only temporarily.
Sarah saw that millitary and more importantly his guns were gone. She figured she'd offer some sort of help to the other guy without him knowing. She found a pen some paper, another couple of swiss army knives saluting the veterens who's former apartments she'd raided and two working crossbows with ammo. She wrote down how to use and maintain a crossbow, where to find more bolts and such. She left a crossbow where the guy with the bat could easily find it. She signed it from one survivor to another. And she put a mud paw print on it so it could be implied she was a shapeshifter. It was a different make and model from hers so she couldn't keep it for parts like she could the first one. Used different amunition too so she decided to pass it along with another knife. She slunk off in dragon form it was large enough to carry her now two crossbows and other supplies. She could hunt for her dinner and eat raw meat just fine. A few fat rats looked well not exactally tasty but still edible and fresh. If she used fire breath... She could cook any contaminants off. But cooking anything attracted compettiton from cats and dogs. The odd zombie or vagrant wasn't unheard of either. She was so getting out of the city ASAP.
For the first 3 miles, nothing interesting happens to Carl; He slips once, he sees a deer but will not hunt because it will cost too much energy, energy he needs for the journey. but after another 100 yards, he spots an infected! He quickly drops down behind a bush hoping the zombie won't see him. he peaks past the bark of the tree, the zombie is coming his way! He takes out his knife and throws it at the zombie! Straight hit in the chest, but the zombie keep moving! Carl decides to tape out his rifle to hit the zombie with the buttstock. when the zombie gets close enough Carl grabs his chance and hits the zombie in th e head. the zombie drops down and stops moving. Carl takes back his knife and stabs the zombie one more time, to be sure, then continues walking. About an hour later he finds a river, he decides to drink and rest for about 20 minutes. then he crosses the river and his journey goes on...
Arran finnaly made his way up to the roof, to the helicopter pad where the chopper was. He moved up a small set of stairs up onto the platform and sighed at what he saw. The pilot sat slumped against the controls, obviously dead, but Arran couldn't see a bite. Maybe the man had died of other causes. Still, he gripped his knife tightly, not wanting to take any chances, and opened the door, he tried to pull the body of the pilot out. As he struggled, he suddenly felt the pilots hand grip his arm, he heard a loud snarling coming from the man, Arran fell back, accidently pulling the zombiefied pilot out with him. He moved away as it tried to crawl toward him. Arran quickly grabbed his knife and stabbed the zombie in the head, killing it instantly..or..killing it again. "Damn it.." he backed up a bit, pulling the knife back before cleaning it off "Should have seen that coming." he looked back to the helicopter and looked inside, searching for more..unwanted guests, before climbing inside. He had some piloting experience, so if he could get the chopper moving, he shouldn't have too hard of a time using it. He sat at the controls and tried to start it up, but nothing happend. He tried again, still nothing "No..no no no..come on.." he tried everything he could possibly think of, and nothing worked "NO! Come on! Work!" He slammed his fist angrily against one of the panels, before sitting back a bit in the seat, he let out a loud sigh, before looking back, there was a large crate in the cargo area of the chopper, and he hopped out, pulling the crate out, he opened it and was greeted with a large suppliy of military grade weapons.
Sarah passed the rats and slunk off to the bridge out of the city. She couldn't risk flying until late at night in case she got shot at like during her earlier encounters with the military. If she ditched her supplies and went feral she could take the form of a pigon and fly out of the city in broad daylight like this. But a black dragon? Not worth risking until she'd cleared the city and gone far enough into the forest. So she slunk along carefully watching for dogs and former zoo animals like the lions who had made their escape and were getting by eating the deer that had crossed the bridge. Those tigers, wolves and hyenna that had gotten out were also major hazzards for her. Some had crossed the bridge and found other colonies of their own kind escaped from various zoos so there was a gene pool. The urban ruins were a jungle. But Sarah moved on past a group of wolves feasting on a deer carcass. They were too caught up in feeding to notice her. It took her hours to find the bridge and slink between and under stalled cars into the maze of city on the other side. At one point military snipers would have shot at her. But now she was most likely the closest thing to another human they might be able to see for months if not years which made them dangerous for other reasons.
But other shapeshifters might also be just as dangerous to her. They might be territorial and not inclined to let her pass. Males had been more common from the start so she might be able to play the gender card and slip past. Across the bridge and past another millitary with an empty gun she found her target the forest. And no zombies for miles. She took the chance to wash the grime from her scales before going deeper into the heart of the forest.
After another mile or so, Carl spots a tent. he starts to move towards it silently and carefully. When he's about 10 yards away, he sees the tent has blood spatters on it. "Thats not gonna be a live survivor in there" He thinks, "But maybe there's one of those undead.". He carefully opens the tent only to find some bones and a pistol. "looks like this guy killed himself, what a shame." He picks up the pistol and drops out the mag, he is very excited about what he sees, almost a full clip, just one bullet missing. He then loads the magazine into the pistol but does not yet chamber a round, for safety. he continues his journey and after 40 minutes, he finally reaches the city. He sneaks in to a house through the back door, he quickly looks through the house for possible enemies, but finds none. He barricades the doors and starts looking for useful supplies. He finds some canned food and an empty bottle, which he pts in his bag. He then goes upstairs to look around there. Carl checks the first room to the left first, he sees a window, he'll get back here in a minute to look out the window for zombies and possibly other survivors. But first he looks around in the other rooms, he doesnt find anything useful at all so he decides to head to the window, only to be overwhelmed with what he sees...
Steve finds a pistol in a hopechest and takes it out. He also finds a good amount of ammo to go with it.
Â
He picks up his bat and breaks the window. He then drops his bat and pulls out his pistol and loads it with ammo. He then realizes how many zombies there are outside, he can't spare the ammo. Now he's trapped in the building, there are too many for him to walk outside and fight.
Â
He runs to the top floor and sees no zombies. "If only the roof was still intact" he sighed. He grabs a flashlight out of his bag and shines it in the air, hoping it might signal some other survivors or even a helicopter to come help him. While the light may not be very noticable, what else could he possibly do at this point?
Carl sees a man shining a flashlight into the air, he must be in danger! Carl rushes out of the building and sprints across the street to the building where he saw the man, not caring about the zombies on the street. He sees a rain pipe on the building next to it. He decides to climb it. He jumsonto the pipe almost breaking it and climbs up to the roof. he can see the man with the flashlight now and yells:"Hey you, need some help?!" and then he jumps though the roof of the building of the man with the flashlight. Carl hopes the man will trust him and not shoot him. He says to the man:"i count to three, on three we breach the door and shoot every zombie we soo, aight?". the man nods. They start to execute the plan. Carl counts to three:"one.. two... THREE!" and he kicks in the door...
Arran opened the crate he found in the chopper and grinned. Even though the heli didn'tn work, he had found a jackpot. Assault rifles, a couple of LMGs, pistols, grenades, a grenade launcher, extra ammo for all of them, and some other weapons "Oh..wow..all right..hmm.." he started to drag the crate downstairs toward where he parked his truck, knowing he wouldn't really be able to carry it. Once he got down, he opened the door and dragged it further toward his truck, looking around to see if any zombies had noticed. He managed to get the large crate into the back and moved to the front, he opened the door and got in. When he tried to start the truck it wouldn't. "What? No..come on!" He tried it again, looking up just in time to see one of the infected run at his car and smash its face against the window "Sh--!" he reached for his knife as the zombie smashed through the window, quickly stabbing it in the head, but he soon turned to see another running for the other side of the car, then another, then another.
