Bite snapped his jaws at the silver-colored dire wolf in front of him. He let out a growl. The young andrewscarchus then whipped around and ran further into the meadow. He could still hear the angry barks and distressed whines of the wolves. One of the dire wolves was running after him, but it soon stopped and returned to the pack. Once Bite stopped running, he was at the beginning of a forest. He wasn't fit with living in forests. Bite was used to living near beaches or in meadows and dry plains. Bite shook his fur, shaking off some dirt. He walked over to a big lake and took a drink.
Gavan returned to his nest and sqautted down. He was exhausted, he didn't have the time or strength for any battles. Gavan lowered his head and tucked it under his small wing. In the distance, there were many barks and howls of canines, and the yowls and roars of felines. A small rustle was heard. The terror bird slightly turned it's head. A rodent-like creature was sniffing around the nest. Gavan screeched at the rodent, the rodent squealed and ran away from the nest. Gavan poked his head out of the branches protecting his nest. He made sure there were no more pesky creatures wanting to mess around or steal his food.
Saber was asleep by the stream when he heard the howls. The large smilodon stood up to see what the commotion was. He trailed off, searching for answers. As he walked on, he could smell blood and other scents in the air. One scent caused Saber to do a double take. What sweet and moth watering scent was this? Saber sniffed around, taking in the scent. It was pleasant and it reminded him of his pack when he was a cub. The females had similar scents. That's when it hit. A female smilodon was around. Saber sniffed on, following the scent for a good six minutes. He didn't even pay attention to the grazing mammoth herd he was passing. He was more focused on reaching the female and maybe get to know her. Two minutes later, Saber found himself standing on a fallen tree. He surveyed his surroundings, his nose twitching. He then performed the flaming response, inhaling the scent. Bingo! Saber looked to his right and saw her. The female smilodon was beautiful. But the smell of wolves were nearby. Saber growled as he saw the dire wolves surrounding the tree the female was in. With a roar, the male sabertooth charged in, roaring in anger at the wolves. Saber bowled into one, causing some to run while the others gave Saber and the tree a wide berth. Saber snarled, demanding that the wolves leave immediately or else. The smilodon was bristling, standing tall, and growling aloud while his ears rested atop his head.
Silver was crouching behind the other wolves, waiting for the signal to jump on the smilodon. She needed a chance to prove her worth, and this was the perfect time...Suddenly the smilodon knocked over one of her pack mates. She didn't dare flinch, or she would be sighted by the smilodon. She turned her gaze back to the rest of her pack. They were afraid, but not afraid enough. A few ran past her but the alpha, the one closest to the smilodon, flicked his ears and twitched his tail. The signal! Silver leaped up and landed on the front of the tree, teeth bared in a snarl. She narrowed her eyes at the smilodon, she wasn't going to let fear ruin her only chance to rise in rank. Silver leaped on the smilodon, trying to get a grip on it, it was moving like crazy. She fell off, but she got to her paws and she looked at it again.
Ruina sat quietly watching the Dire wolves with her tail around her paws, one was really close to getting her and as close as it was it wasn't close enough. That was when another saber charged into her sight, it was obviously a male, she tilted her head and watched as the saber bowled over a nearby Dire, snarling loudly he stood in front of the tree with his ears against his head. Ruina moved forward and gracefully jumped from the tree, landing not far from the male, she moved beside him and bumped his shoulder tilting her head away from the Dires and towards the brush "Come on, they can't catch us." She whispered
The small cub trembled in between the roots of the tree. She curled herself into a ball as a large male smildon ran past. The stench of wolves burned her nostrils, and the sound of yowls, barks and howls were ripping her small ears apart. Desdemona backed up as much as she could, somewhat hidden by ferns growning around the tree. Once the other smildon had left, the little cub emerged from the plants. Desdemona creeped around in the undergrowth, crawling under plants and branches. THe poor cub hadn't eaten in such a long time, she was roughly no more than a year old. She had to learn how to use her senses and when to. She spotted a fallen tree not to far away. She ran towards it, the night breeze going through her fur. She leaped into the fallen tree and crouched down, hoping she would be safe. Little did she know that, she stenched of fear, one thing that everyone can smell.
Saber followed the female smilodon toward the bushes. He dashed off alongside her, feeling the wind in his fur. Saber knew the wolves would be after them, so he made sure to stay on lookout incase they stopped. Saber eyed the female as they ran. She was beautiful. He'd never seen a sabertooth more fine-figured yet built for the kill. Saber halted suddenly, causing the female to halt as well, with Saber having stopped right in front of her. A new scent, one more innocent, was in the breeze. Saber thought it was prey, but realized it was his own kind. Saber sniffed the trees and bushes near them. A fallen tree was only three feet in front of him. Saber stepped forward and growled. Fear was something he loved to smell in prey, but this fear was from a defenseless future predator. Saber sniffed around the fallen tree and halted. He sniffed between the smalls vines and leaves and located the source of the scent. Hiding under the brush was a small smilodon cub. The cub seemed frightened and helpless, and also hungry. Saber didn't know what to do. Should he kill it or leave it to fend for itself? Saber knew nothing on parenthood yet, but he knew a cub was a handful. Saber chuffled, doing what his mother used to do for him when he was a cub. He then stood tall and called over the female smilodon.
Ruina watched as the male serched around the tree, she couldn't smell what he could at the moment, but she could tell it surprised him what he saw, she heard him chuffle like a mother usually did to its cub, and it sounded wierd coming from the male. She snorted in laughter until he called her over, walking forward Ruina could smell fear, but it wasn't the right kind which really confused her, reaching the male's side she leaned forward and looked into the hole. In the hole lied a small famished Saber-tooth cub, before she knew what she was doing she lapped her tongue over the little cubs head before looking at the male "What are we going to do with it." She asked looking at it sadly.
Saber looked at the female smilodon and shrugged. He didn't know what to do with a small smilodon cub like this one. Saber reached in and pulled the little cub out of its hiding place. Saber placed the cub next to the female and nudged the cub closer to her. Saber then looked at the female and snorted and growled, implying that she should raise the cub. He then turned and walked over to a large rock formation. He leapt on top of it, looking over the plains and grass for the dire wolves. Saber shook himself and yawned. The large male looked back at the female smilodon and the cub. What was he to do with them? The female was obviously alone, but could handle herself. But the cub? The cub wouldn't last a week or two alone in the wilds of the Ice Age. Saber got lucky as a cub. He still had his mother and grandfather when he was little. Saber sat on his haunches to think.
She watched him climb onto the rock, then looked at the little cub. There was no way she could look after such a small thing, she'd accidentally step on it leaning down she could smell that the little cub was female, she glared up at the male and huffed angrily. Why should she be stuck with her not that it was a bad thing, but he found her so he should be responsible for keeping her, it was dangerous and she would be way safer with him, but his is in fact a male and could probably ever watch after a cub without supervision . She leaned down, picking up the little cub gently and jumped on the rock, looking over at the male she spoke "I'll watch after her, it'll be for the best." Ruina said wrapping her tail around the cub.
Desdemona was still in some shock, she thought she was going to get her head chomped off by the male, but that didn't exactly happen. Since Desdemona was "thrown away" when she was a cub, she wasn't the cutest cub. One of her saber teeth were smaller than the other, her mouth was sort of... well, twisted and her nose was slightly wrenched up since her saber teeth weren't really proper. Desdemona sniffed, having some difficulty with her nose. She pressed herself against the female saber-tooth's flank, her pelt getting slightly warmer. Desdemona curled up, avoiding her "crooked" jaw. She yawned a tenny yawn and looked up at the female.
