After depositing the fish in front of the mothers and pups, Little Wolf raced over to where Quidam, Farren, and Riolar were sitting.

"Quidam! I saw that strangest thing on my way back from the beach!" She practically shouted as she skidded to a halt, nearly colliding with Riolar.

"Sorry, Riolar." She panted before continuing, "I smelled something odd, almost like carrion and had a black snout with these horribly long teeth." Little Wolf shuddered at the memory of those teeth.

"I bolted out of there and didn't see what the rest of it looked like. It sounded big though, what with all the noise it was making. What should we do, Quidam?" Little Wolf asked, nervously licking her shoulders and chest.

Riolar grunted when she crashed into him, "It's fine." Then he contemplated the description of the creature. "Wow.. that sounds frightening.. good thing I didn't run into that while hunting.."

Farren stood up, looking at Little Wolf, then at her alpha, "I think I smelt carrion too, and I heard a grow that sound like thunder. I didn't tell anyone though when I came back, not even Riolar." Her brother seemed surprised he didn't notice this. Then, she continued. "I didn;t investigate either, I was too afraid too. Or.. at first I thought it was a bear, but now I know," she looked at Little Wolf, "It's not."

Little Wolf flicked her tail in agitation, "I wonder if there's more than one of these things? Should we investigate or maybe move the pack somewhere, to keep the mothers and pups safe?"

Little Wolf whined slightly at the headache she was getting from thinking about all the worst possible scenarios and crouched placing her paws over her orange eyes.

"All this thinking is making my head hurt terribly. I don't want those strange creatures to find the camp, especially if they're not friendly." Little Wolf mumbled before removing her paws from her face and lifting her head up to stare at her fellow pack mates.

Quidam cocked her head, considering the options. "Yes," she began slowly, "I saw one of these also when I was out hunting. I got a pretty good view of it too. They certainly look like they could pose a threat, but since we don't know much about them, I think we'll just see how things go for now. When you go out hunting, hunt in a group whenever possible. Also, we'll find or make an escape route from camp. As far as we know, there's nowhere else on this island that we could go to. Our ancestors have lived here for centuries. If the worst happened and we were forced to leave camp, our best option would probably be to move higher up the mountain. A Lastly, we should probably investigate these things. If you encounter one of these creatures or learn anything about them, share what you know with everyone else." She stopped speaking, satisfied with the decisions. "Does everyone agree?"

Little Wolf sat up and licked her shoulder quickly, "I agree. It's probably our best option right now. Do you want to send someone to scout for some temporary camps and escape routes if worst comes to worst?"

Little Wolf flicked her tail, she never was one for sitting still for long and she was becoming agitated that the pack might have to abandon the place their ancestors had lived for centuries did not sit well with the melanistic she-wolf.

Suddenly, Little Wolf stood. "I'm going to go check on the mothers and pups." She said quickly and bound over to were some of the older pups were wrestling with each other.

Riolar nodded to his alpha. "I agree. Though, do you think we could try to fend them off? Maybe lure them to a different place?" Farren seemed to be picking up on his ideas. "Yes! We could lure them to a further place with prey, or maybe rough some up a bit and scare them off! They'll spread word of us and we'll be feared by whatever those things are!" Riolar sighed, he wanted to tell them his ideas, not his sister. "Yes," he mumbled, "Those ideas are what I was thinking exactly!" Farren was wagging her tail happily.

Wolves of the Beyond
Setting

A large island with a few small mountains to the north, an inland forest, and a beach/coastal type desert to the south.

The Mountain Canyons are home to the pack. The pack lives in caves within a valley. In order to reach the pack's home, you must pass through a tunnel underneath a waterfall.

The Forest is the hunting land for the pack. It is lush and green, filled not only with prey but also with diverse species of insects, birds, and medicinal plants.

The Beach runs all the way around the island, but the largest portion is in the southern part of the island. The sand is fine, nearly white, and the water is a clear blue.

Plot

The ancestors of the abandoned wolves had lived comfortably on this island for years. Suddenly, a mysterious danger threatens them and they must unite or perish. What will you choose?

WOLF ANATOMY

Head: The head of these wolves is proportionate to the body. Their ears are large and erect. The eyes are large and almond shaped. The muzzle is finely shaped and they have a scissor bite.

Body: Their withers are slightly higher than the haunches. The shoulders are strong and the forelegs have a musculature similar to that of a big cat's, allowing them to grasp their prey better and even climb trees fairly well. The back legs are also powerful. They have large paws and semi-retractable claws. They are strong overall and well-muscled, although they are still lean and sleek. The females have a slightly leaner, lighter shape than the males.

Fur/Coat: As stated before, odd color combinations and markings are not uncommon. Chimerism, albinism, and melanism are all possible. The fur has a waterproof, coarser outer layer and a thin, downy underlayer.

Tail: -Fail category :P- The tail is slightly longer in comparison to that of a normal wolf's. It helps to balance them when running or swimming, which they are quite adept at. The fur is thick and soft.

History

Generations ago, the wolves that live on this island used to be werewolves. They were tied to a company who tested them and genetically modified them in ways they couldn't predict. As wolves they had unusual genetics with things such as chimerism, heterochromia (due to chimerism), albinism, and melanism possible, even common. Somehow, word got out about them being werewolves. The company called them in and sedated them. When they woke up, they were in a crate and unable to change into human form. The crate tipped and fell, crashing into a forest clearing and sending the wolves tumbling out. To this day, it is unknown where they were left.
