Alianna sat on the bench next to Atria, completly still as the girl seemed to be confessing... something. This is what Alianna had been waiting for; the chance to figure out if this girl was cursed. From the sound of what she was saying, she was.
Alianna swivled her head to the side in a 'what do you mean' gesture. Before nudging the girl's hand onto her back. Oh, how she wished she could talk, to comfort Atria. But because of the stupid curse, feathers and wings took the place of that. It was something she'd been able to deal with, but the bitter taste was still there.
Atria felt a chill wind pass as she stroked Alianna back affectionately. It caused her to fold her arms to her chest for a moment trying to warm up. She was normally rather indifferent to the cold, but it was getting to her just then for some reason; everything was. “let`s go somewhere else†she said simply to Alianna as she stood up and started heading back to the fair grounds. She felt mentally exhausted too many thoughts no focus.
She headed to a large gazebo on the outskirts of the fair grounds near all the shops and food stands and found a seat at a picnic table that was sitting beneath it. There was a local band covering Eagle`s songs, and some other people were sitting around listening, but mostly there was hardly anyone about. Most of the people were out walking around and riding. It was warmer there, and out of the wind. She felt that maybe she`d been too haste in her decision to leave the fair, as long as she wasn’t near the rides she felt alright. The music wasn’t very pleasant, but it got her mind of her troubles anyway, and that was good enough. ‘It`s going to be a long day’ she sighed, looking bored, but at atleast some peace as she rested her cheek in her hand.
Alianna landed inside the gazebo, a soft taping coming from the wood. She waited paitently for Atria to say something, anything. However, the music coming from the current band was graiting on her nerves. She wasn't a fan of the Eagles, but they were just butchering the songs.
In an attempt to cheer Atria up, and to convey what Alianna felt, she flew to the stage. She then unplaged the band's microphones and cut off the music. She then flew to the computer and played a song she knew and loved. It was M.I.N.E. (End this way) by Five Finger death punch.
The lyrics came on just as she returned to the gazebo.
Everybody Hurts, Everybody Bleeds, Everybody Bends to fill a need,
Everybody's born with their own curse and I'm not alone.
Everybody cries, Everybody breaths, Everybody wants to feel they're free,
Deep inside I know what I am worth, a life of my own.
It could have been much worse, but it should've been better!
I know I hurt you, Deserted you, and now I see it clear,
I pull you closer, tighter, 'cause I knew you'd dissapear
I just can't compromise, apologize, there's nothing you can say!
We both knew, it would always end this way...
Â
Atria was pulled out of her momentary stupor by Alianna’s antics. When the raven cut the band off the other people sitting around had actually began clapping and cheering. Atria nearly laughed “silly bird†she grinned mildly amused. She listened to the song that was playing. The song sounded kind of down beat, the melody was making her feel sad again. Something was definitely leery about the fact that Alianna put this song on though… what did it mean? Did the bird actually understand her?
‘Thank you Alianna’ she thought smiling slightly, realizing the song wasn’t sad ‘I needed that’. Just then the lead singer of the cover band, who was upset about being cut off as they didn`t get a lot of gigs for fairly obvious reasons; was yelling something to the band. He stormed over to where Alianna was and hooked everything back up impatiently, cutting off the song Alianna had put on. "Stupid bird" he grumbled annoyed before retaking the stage and continuing to sing hotel California. Some people that were watching booed at them, but they just kept playing. It was good while it lasted anyway. Atria rested her head in her hand again, looking deep in thought.
Â
Alianna's feather's fluffed out, she was highly offended that her song had been cut off. And before her favorite part! The little bird was not having that, oh no she was not. With an angry caw, she flew back to the wires and unhooked them once more. This time, she tore her beak into them, fraying the equipment to the point of being unuseable.
Then, back over to the computer, she started the song again. Luckily, it had been paused and continued playing.
Everybody pains, everybody grieves, everbody's making off like thieves,
every soul is aching for release, your not alone.
Everybody lives, everybody leaves, everbody begs best on thier knees,
everybody's got the same disease, no one's alone!
This was the verse that Alianna wanted Atria to hear, the one that was the most important.
No one is alone, Atria, Alianna thought as she returned to the Gazebo.
Atria listened to the words absorbedly ‘you trying to tell me something Alianna?’ she wondered emotionally, the bird had managed to warm her heart some. Like she was being told not to give up, she didn`t have to end up alone; there could be another way. She smiled repeating ‘No one is alone’ in her mind, feeling the eight of those words.
The small crowd was amused at the birds antics, however the band was not. The leader singer cursed “darn you god blessed little dastard!†he was thoroughly ticked about being cut off, even more so about his expensive equipment being damaged. He furiously grabbed his guitar in both hands charging off the stage after Alianna and taking a swing at her. He missed, and Atria was on her feet in an instant “Stop!†she yelled “what the heck do you think you’re doing?!â€ÂShe ran toward them as he took another wild swing and missed “leave her alone!†she demanded fretfully fearing he`d hit Alianna, and she`d be injured or worse. She was alarmed and disturbed at his reaction, however no one else that was around said anything, in fact they seem amused a couple of them were even laughing. Her eye twitched as she neared them, but the man ignored her, he simply growled and took another swing at Alianna.
Â
Alianna cawed, ducking the first swing of the guitar. The second she side steped. Atria was trying her best to stop this crazy man, but it didn't appear as if she was being effective.
The third swing almost hit Alianna, but she jumped it. Her wings opened their full six feet. She was larger than any other raven she had seen before. She lowered her head as her back feather's raised. A hiss came from her; she was not happy in the least.
She lunged forward, shoving herself between Atria and the singer. She would burn in hell before the girl got hurt for her actions. Alianna's beak snaked forward, digging into one of the man's hands. Blood welled from the wound. She repeated this several times.
All the time, the man swung his guitar at her. But, after biting him five times, he managed to hit her. There was a thud as the guitar hit her in the chest and knocked her to the ground. She landed on her back, dazed. Pain shot through her as she rolled over, wincing.
“God bless it!†he cursed furiously as Alianna drew blood from his hand “damnable thing†her huffed “I’ll kill you!†he swung again with deadly intent this time striking his target, watch the raven fall to the ground with a satisfied smirk. This happened just as Atria reached him “Alianna!†she nearly screamed, hurrying over to her ‘oh god--please be okay’ her hands shook, but seeing Alianna get up Atria nearly fell to the ground she was so relieved.
However, as the bird rolled back over the man furrowed his brow realizing vexatiously that he hadn’t killed her; he raised his guitar over his head with deadly intent, planning to crush her. His band mates called to him, one of them running up from behind “dude chill out!†he called looking slightly freaked out with the way the other man was acting “it`s just a bird let it go man†he wasn’t listening at all, and the other man was too nervous to try grabbing him.  Some people in the crowd were on their feet yelling things, others called for security. At the same time Atria looked up just in time to see him raising his guitar over his head “no!†she chocked out, and low kicked him, sweeping his legs out from under him. He fell back with a heavy thud, looking more ticked than ever, but by then security had reached him, and restrained him. Atria didn`t wait for security to question her. She scooped Alianna into her arms and made a run for it.
The incident had drawn quite the crowd to the area, and she could feel the rage boiling up inside that man had stirred up so many negative emotions, so much hate. She knew she had to get away from their immediately or risk taking lives. That had been too close, and it wasn’t over; as she ran she did a breathing exercise, trying to calm down, but it wasn’t working. Thinking about almost loosing Alianna stocked the flames of her wrath ‘got to calm down!’ she thought distressed, feeling completely worked up.
After running for a distance in an empty field on the edge of the fair grounds, Atria fell to her knees battling the storm within. As she did she dropped Alianna, but not hard. She gripped the grass heatedly, grinding her teeth. She sat down Indian style closing her eyes and engaging in breathing exercises to calm down. Her expression dripped with poison, and she struggled against her pent up rage with every ounce of herself discipline. She felt like she wanted to hit something. She grabbed her head, having started to develop a headache from the effort. ‘Happy place’ she repeated over in over in her mind while images of laying into that man filled her mind. She shook her head, looking at Alianna who thankfully seemed to be alright; her expression became a bit softer “get out of here†she commanded the raven weakly “it’s not safe†she feared Alianna would get hurt if she lost control. She could feel that tingling and burning sensation in her face that she had felt the other times just before she lost control. She resisted it as intensely as she could, causing her nose to bleed. The anger was consuming her, bursting to be expressed.
Atria took the pendant on the necklace into her hand squeezing it tenderly; she reached out with her other hand to pet Alianna, distressed that the raven had stayed despite the danger. The headache grew more intense as she grappled with emotional turmoil.  She folded her hands to her chest as Alianna swept her wings around her. The anger within then expressed itself, but as grief instead of rage. Tears began streaming down her face as she sniffled. “What am I going to do?†she asked conflicted, “I’mâ€â€I’m a freak how can I live like this?†she rubbed her eyes, realizing that she had really wanted to watch that man suffer back there, wanted to hurt him and thoughts like that scared her, made her worry that darkness slept within her heart. “I’m so glad you`re okay†she sobbed, stroking Alianna. It was going to be okay the anger had passe, but she had come too close to losing it for comfort.
She looked back at the gazebo, some distance away “I could have killed people†she swallowed nervously ‘that`s all I amâ€â€just a ticking time bombâ€â€no one is safe around me… not even my friends†she wiped the blood off her face feeling disheartened. She pulled herself together, pressing her sinuses to try to find some relief from the head ache. She could tell Alianna had been hurt she just couldn’t tell how badly, she stood up slowly offering her arm to the raven as a perch.
“That was crazy†she thought out loud taking another look back at the gazebo “why are so many people so violent†she sighed “she had been dealing with loose cannons like that man back there for too long, and it was people like that she`d come to revile; they needed to be avoided at all costs. The likeness that they could cause her to lose control was unfortunately all too real, but as she had found out in that situationâ€â€people like that weren’t always identifiable until it was too late. She could be caught off guard like that at any time. That`s why it was so hard to just cut loose and trust people.
Alianna pulled back, giving Atria room to get up. As she did so, she did a mental check, moving her body to make sure she had no broken bones. It felt as if she didn't, but the blow might have bruised a rib. Her wings, thankfully, were okay. This would make her next transform hurt, a lot, but afterward her body had this uncanny ability to heal itself. She didn't know how it worked just that it did. When Atria offered her arm, Alianna jumped up to it, landing a bit heavily as pain reminded her of its presence. She side stepped for better balence, make sure not to hold the girl's arm to tightly.
Alianna was sure when she decided it, but she had. Her heart had overridden her brain; she would tell the girl her secret. This was something Alianna had done once, and that was something she kkicked herself for. That was how she had her first run-in with the grey men, they'd come after her. But something told Alianna to trust Atria, something deeper than a gut feeling. She looked steadily at the girl, slightly saddened by the bird who reflected back in Atria's eyes. This, this is not what I am...
Atria decided to find somewhere more isolated to wait until nightfall so she could find Alianna. She headed for the park again; stroking the raven’s back with her free hand “it will be okay†it was hard to tell if she was trying to reassure the bird or herself “Alianna knows things, maybe she`ll know what`s wrong with me†she thought out loud, looking kind of down. She had taken a glimpse at her futureâ€â€at what things were probably going to be like for her, and she hadn’t liked what she saw there; it was like not having a future at all. She didn`t know what to do, or even if the was anything that could be done, but she at least wanted to find out.Â
