The alarm clock sounded with a sharp and painful chimming that was most unwelcomed. Someone may as well have been scratching on a chalkboard. Mary had been nestled in her bed, her thick blankets wrapped around her like a cacoon. She burried her head underneath her soft pillow as her arm flailed around blindly in search of the snooze button. Once she found it, the dreadful noise ceased. Silence. Drawing in a deep breath, Mary let it out slowly as she savored her last few moments of lying still in the warm bed. She dared to lift her head out from under the pillow and look at the clock.
It read 6am. She sighed. Getting out of bed, she tossed the blankets aside and made her way across her room in a few strides. Passing the mirror, she had to stop. Her makeup was still on from the night before, and as a result, had formed black rings under her eyes. Eeep! She exclaimed. She fixed her make up and then her hair, and making her way to the closet she stood there and thought over her options. She scanned the rack carefully, and her eyes sparkled at the sight of her new spring dress. It was knee length, and fell beautifully on her, accentuating her slender figure. It was a cream colored dress with blue flower print. and slipping it on, she examined herself in the mirror. She grinned and gave it a twirl. Satisfied, she gave the clock another look. 6:30am. She gasped, and ran out of her room and down the stairs.
Mary's father and brother had been sitting at the breakfast table, and her mother was preparing a meal in the kitchen. She smiled at her father, then her brother "Morning!" She sang, as she rushed past them into the kitchen. Her mother was surprised to see her so awake. Mary hugged her and kissed her, and grabbing a piece of toast off the counter she rushed past her, heading for the door. "Thank you mother!" she said, turning the doorknob. "I'll see you all later, wish me luck!" She said cheerfully, and turning to step outside, she breathed in the morning air. She looked up her blue eyes wide, but tired. The moon could still be seen in the sky. Mary sighed. There would always be something that she would miss about homeschooling, and that was sleeping in. Making her way to her car she stepped inside and put her keys in the ignition. Today is going to be different she thought, picturing her the boy she had been secretly in love with in her head. He's going to have to notice me..she silently prayed, and smiling a bubbly smile, her heart full of a newfound hope, she turned the keys and slowly backed out of the driveway.
