Kadvar took the knife and cut the rabbit open from it's neck to it's legs, opening it to see if there was anything inside. "No why would you kill me, blargh," he imitated how he imagined a rabbit voice to sound.

Now what was in here? He looked through the stuffing to find a key and he tossed it to Alex, "Might be useful later." It wouldn't be placed there for no reason that was for sure.

He rolled the rabbit in some mud, dirt, and leaves in order to camouflage it before placing it on his head. It fit well enough, and he had left in some of the stuffing so it helped keep his head warm.

"How old are you again?" Alex said, laughing. Kadvar's personality could be pretty beneficial in ratings. It was important to get the viewers to like you, because if they liked you they didn't want to see you die. That meant they would give them things to win. Plus the jokes eased some of Alex's fear.

Alex was amazed that there was actually something inside the rabbit. He examined it, looking for any clues about what it was for. Nothing. Alex unzipped a pocket in his bag and dropped it in. Maybe it could be used for something later. Or maybe it was just a trick and it was useless.

"Mentally? Probably ten." Hopefully most of the tributes would kill each other off. The first day was when the most tributes would die, and hopefully they wouldn't be any of those people to die. Their biggest threats would be a gifted that had revealed their defensive ability during training, and one of the well trained normal humans from one of the career districts. And potentially the teleporter who might try and get revenge for him burning her.

Kadvar wasn't sure what the key was for, but if it was indeed useless they could fool others to believe it was important. Maybe set a trap, but even killing someone that way would feel terribly wrong. Hopefully the games didn't end with him and Alex, he couldn't even kill people he hated.

"We should probably find a source of water first," they could go for long lengths without food, but not without water. He could go for slightly longer without water as the only way he'd sweat was if he was badly overheated. His wrists did a good job at concentrating heat away from his body.

"Yeah," Alex agreed. "And somewhere safe to spend the night. By then the carreers will be ready to hunt for victims, that is if they aren't already."

One of the things Alex was most afraid of was when it came to night time. He could not stay awake forever, but being exhaused was dangerous. Alex did not want to be killed in his sleep without any chance to defend himself. Luckily he had managed to ally with Kadvar. That meant they could take turns watching and sleeping turning the night. That is if Kadvar didn't freeze in the night air.

Alex stood up and put the back pack over his sholders. He held the throwing knife tightly in his hand. For now it didn't seem like anyone was around, but who knew when they would cross paths with someone?

Kadvar closed his bag and put it on, wondering what the wildlife would be like here, and if the game makers decided to have any mutts in here. It was still early in the game and he doubted the game makers would throw dangerous animals in the mix so soon.

Hopefully the nights weren't too cold, the air wasn't too bad right now but that didn't mean a thing. At the least he had a sleeping bag, and his hat from the stuffed animal which really did look stupid. It was by some stroke of luck he had managed to make an ally. One who hopefully would wake him if he happened to start freezing to death in his sleep.

He started walking forward, "The careers that are gifteds probably already started hunting."

"Maybe, but they will be searching, but just running through the forrest like mad men like we did. We should have some time before they get near us." Alex said as he started walking. "We may hit into someone else who is trying to make some distance between them and the others to." Alex reposisioned the knife in his hand. He rather not take a life firsthand. Maybe a trap or something but stabbing just made him feel sick.

He could hear a sound of a stream, so he walked that way. It shouldn't be too far away if he could hear it. But a water sourse would be a hot spot and someone could already be there.

Well that wasn't too hard, hopefully the water source wouldn't be poisoned but it shouldn't be this early in the game. Maybe the stream could have fish, which really was useless as they didn't have a net and such fish would be rather small. Or rabbits maybe? He had a snare but had little idea on how to use it. Also they'd need to cook it, which would give away their location. It was rare he could bring up his ability at will while his life wasn't at stake and he didn't think either of them had matches.

They were close to the stream. After hearing something else moving ahead of them he grabbed and pulled Alex into a bush. Unless a speed gifted was here there was no way someone got ahead of them so it had to be an animal.

He saw a rabbit drinkining from the stream. The fact it was a rabbit didn't necessarily mean it was safe, but it didn't seem to be too dangerous.

Alex had a momentary bout of panic when Kadvar grabed him and pulled him into the bushes. His mind's first conclusion was that Kadvar had betrayed him and he was going to die. Of course it only took him another second to realise the true reason for Kadvar's actions.

The rabbit was drinking from the water. That was a good sign, if something was wrong with it the rabbit would have smelt it. Though Alex was sure there were plenty dangerous things that could be put into the water a rabbit would not be able to smell.

"I don't think we can kill it." He said softly. "Not unless you got a strong throwing arm."

"I wouldn't bother, even if we did kill it we'd have no way to cook it. That and the careers would follow the smoke trail." They'd have to cook at night if they were to cook anything. He was miserable at staring fires when not in a life and death scenario, so they'd need to find matches eventually. Or he'd need to learn to better control his gift which he didn't see happening anytime soon.

He had some muscle to him as bags of flour weren't light, but not much muscle. Technically he could throw the knife far and fast enough but he'd most likely miss it. He had little experience with throwing knives and had miserable accuracy.

"Well we are going to have to find something to eat at some point. The beef jerky I got isn't going to last long." Alex said. He didn't speak softly anymore, not caring about scaring the rabbit. The animal looked up, its nose twitching.

"You kinda pushed me into a puddle, so..." Alex said as he stood up. The rabbt promptly ran away as he did. With his hand he attempted to wipe off the mud which only half worked. He looked around, searching for any non animal living things. Luckily he spotted no one.

"We should get some of the water and move on. We need somewhere safe to stay and people are more likely to come to a water source." He said.

"And set up traps here," more likely the lower numbered districts. The careers seemed to prefer going around and killing others in close combat which really was stupid and risky. He took his water bottle out of the bag and filled it with stream water, afterwords taking out the iodine and putting in a few drops to purify it. The bottle couldn't hold too much which was likely intentional. They probably wanted them to stay close to a water source to draw all of them closer together.

Food was definitely a concern, he ate more than the average human or gifted as his gift directly used his body's energy to start fires. The only way to regain said energy was through food, and he could eat quite a bit on days where he started a lot of fires.

He started walking forward again. Where would they truly be safe? Not many places could provide shelter. He looked back at Alex who still had some mud on him, "At least you have some camouflage now."

"There is no way they would spend their time making traps at this point." Alex said as he walked up to the stream with Kadvar. Alex wondered if Kadvar didn't need as much water as others. It was just an assumption because, you know, the fire thing.

"Ah ah, very funny." Alex said in response to Kadvar's comment about camouflage. "By the time this is over we'll be filthy anyway."

He realised the flaw in what he said the moment he said it. It made it seem like they were both getting out of here alive. There was a low chance that one of the two would make it, and they would never allow two people to win.

By the time this was over there would be twenty three dead children, and one most likely mentally scarred survivor. He didn't want to have to live his life with the mental scars this game would bring, but he also wanted to survive. He had parents, well, a mother at least who cared for him. He had a future ahead of him in his mother's bakery. His life was all set up for him. That was until his name was drawn for the games. It could've been thousands of others drawn, yet here he was wandering with no sense of direction hoping they would find some form of shelter.

Although he wanted to survive at the same time he didn't have the heart to stab anyone. Especially not Alex if it came down to just the two of them.

"You don't think there will be bears do you?" Forests had bears right? He heard bears were really difficult to kill.

"I'm sure they put in any animal they could here." Alex said. "But I don't think bears attack you without a warning first." He could be really wrong though, he lived his whole life in a city. The closest thing he had gotten to a forest was a park.

"We got worse things to-" He stopped, his eyes pinpointing on movement in the distance. This was no rabbit either. Alex put a finger up to his lips to signal Kadvar to be quiet and softly pointed.

It was clearly human, a tribute. She apeared to be alone, but who knew if an ally was just out of sight. From this far away Alex wasn't able to reconize her.

Kadvar kept his head low and remained as quiet as possible. It was impossible to tell which tribute it was from this distance, for all he knew it could be the teleporter or a different gifted. The fact she had run all the way out here could mean she was more defenseless than other tributes. If she could defend herself well there was no way she'd run this far so soon. Maybe she was a human, or a more useless gifted. She could be running from someone, or could be a hunter. It was impossible to tell. Best not to attack her and find a way around, not that he'd have the heart to attack and possibly kill here. There could be more so maybe they should hide?

What to do though? If they moved around too much they were more likely to be heard or spotted. If they tried to climb a tree a branch could snap and they could fall or be noticed too. Best just to hide, he pulled Alex into yet another bush.
