The alarm clock sounded with a sharp and painful chimming that was most unwelcomed. Someone may as well have been scratching on a chalkboard. Mary had been nestled in her bed, her thick blankets wrapped around her like a cacoon. She burried her head underneath her soft pillow as her arm flailed around blindly in search of the snooze button. Once she found it, the dreadful noise ceased. Silence. Drawing in a deep breath, Mary let it out slowly as she savored her last few moments of lying still in the warm bed. She dared to lift her head out from under the pillow and look at the clock.

It read 6am. She sighed. Getting out of bed, she tossed the blankets aside and made her way across her room in a few strides. Passing the mirror, she had to stop. Her makeup was still on from the night before, and as a result, had formed black rings under her eyes. Eeep! She exclaimed. She fixed her make up and then her hair, and making her way to the closet she stood there and thought over her options. She scanned the rack carefully, and her eyes sparkled at the sight of her new spring dress. It was knee length, and fell beautifully on her, accentuating her slender figure. It was a cream colored dress with blue flower print. and slipping it on, she examined herself in the mirror. She grinned and gave it a twirl. Satisfied, she gave the clock another look. 6:30am. She gasped, and ran out of her room and down the stairs.

Mary's father and brother had been sitting at the breakfast table, and her mother was preparing a meal in the kitchen. She smiled at her father, then her brother "Morning!" She sang, as she rushed past them into the kitchen. Her mother was surprised to see her so awake. Mary hugged her and kissed her, and grabbing a piece of toast off the counter she rushed past her, heading for the door. "Thank you mother!" she said, turning the doorknob. "I'll see you all later, wish me luck!" She said cheerfully, and turning to step outside, she breathed in the morning air. She looked up her blue eyes wide, but tired. The moon could still be seen in the sky. Mary sighed. There would always be something that she would miss about homeschooling, and that was sleeping in. Making her way to her car she stepped inside and put her keys in the ignition. Today is going to be different she thought, picturing her the boy she had been secretly in love with in her head. He's going to have to notice me..she silently prayed, and smiling a bubbly smile, her heart full of a newfound hope, she turned the keys and slowly backed out of the driveway.

Renn opened his eyes from sleep to the buzzing ring of his alarm clock. He got up and gently pressed the snooze button. Well, its another day. He thought calmly. This repetetive, useless old life annoyed him. He wanted something to change; to effect him. For once, in a million times Renn wished yet again that his life would get somehow fairer. At least, if God was to be so cruel to him, if there was a God, he could have something more exciting, or just something could happen so that he could gain a little happieness or knowledge in life.

Renn sighed, then splashed cold water in his face. Alright, enough. Stop being so deppressing. He thought to himself. Then he smiled wryly. He wanted change? Then why keep thinking the same selfish thoughts each morning? Renn shook himself, then changed in his school uniform and walked out the door.

As usual, as soon as he got into his first period class, Ms. Fallow slammed the door shut behind him and acused him of being late. As usual, Renn only nodded, apolegiesed, then sat down. He ignored the sneers from his classmates as more students rushed in, none being acused of being late, and began to work on the mountain of homework Ms. Fallow had instantly assined him. The other people only had a few pages.

The sun was starting to rise now, and the sky was painted in shades of pink, orange, and yellow. Mary stepped out of her car, which she had parked somewhat crookedly, sipping at her hot cappuccino. Fixing her dress, she looked around and noticed no one was outside in the courtyard. Not a good sign. She checked her phone for the time, and realized she was five minutes late. "Oh shoot!" She exclaimed, slamming the car door shut and dashing towards the large double doors of the school entrance. Only one other person was in the hall, but he had been heading back to his class from the bathroom.

Mary's first class was an elective class. She walked at a speedy pace down the hall, turned a left, and opened the heavy door. Upon entering the classroom, Mary noticed that everyone was staring at her, including Ms. Fallow, who was wearing a not too pleasant expression on her worn and wrinkled face. Mary timidly fixed her hair a little and played with it. Shoot, I knew I shouldn't have stopped for coffee..she thought to herself. "Another one late." Ms. Fallow announced with a deep, monotonous, tone as she tapped the toe of her black stiletto on the tiled floor. Mary bowed slightly, "Sorry, Ms. Fallow." She croaked, then added softly "Won't happen again." Ms. Fallow let out a gruff "Hmpf" As she nearly stabbed her with her hawk-like stare.

Mary continued to her seat, but passing the boy whom their teacher was standing over, she noticed the unfair amount of homework on his desk, and his cool demeanor. She suddenly felt sorry for him. Ms. Fallow was always picking on him. She gave him a small smile, but feeling her teachers eyes on her, she hurried to her seat and started the work in front of her without a peep.

Renn slumped forward on his papers, trying to ignore the teachers' and other classmates' stares. He was a little amused when a girl came in late, though he was more annoyed and secretly embarrassed when she gave him that sympathetic look. Renn shook his head and pushed the thoughts out of his mind. Why ponder on something so minor? But then she had looked so genuine... He then got a papercut. Gah, this is what happens when I don't focus, he thought, then continued on the work. He knew the lunch bell would ring in about thirty minutes, and he had to finish it quickly.

Mary stared down at her paper, holding her head in her hands. She scanned over the words and problems, but found herself re-reading the same line over and over. She had been distracted, which was a frequent occurance with her. She started playing with a few strands of her long, red hair. It was one of her habits. Suddenly, a loud CRACK!! sounded off right in front of her and caused her to jump in her seat with a shriek of teror. Ms. Fallow had wacked her ruler on her desk to wake her up. "Work!" She commanded, with growing impatience. Mary nodded her head, and looked back down at the paper. She scratched her head and raised a brow None of this stuff even makes sense! She thouht to herself, but nevertheless she started putting down answers she thought sounded somewhat sensible.

A few of the kids had been finished already, and were laying their heads down on their desks. Mary was now absorbed in her work, when suddenly the bell rang.

"Lunch time!" shouted one of the kids, who shot up out of his seat followed by the majority of the rowdy class who started piling out of the room. Mary was one of the last to get up, as she was attempting to finish the sentence she was writing. "Done!" She said with a cheerful voice and a nod of victory. Her stomach growled as she placed her hand to it. "Right on time." She said, and picking up her paper, she walked over to Ms. Fallow's desk to lay it on her desk. As she turned to leave, she heard a sound most unpleasant. "I would like to have a talk with you after class, Mary" said Ms. Fallow from her desk. Mary paused and flinched, but turning slightly, she nodded in obedience.

Conan slinked right out of the room with a combined sense of hunger and salvation when everyone else left. Lunch was his favorite time of the day as it ususallly meant he could simply sit at a table alone away from others. Years of attacking others has diminished Conan's faith in others but he is just fine with that. Conan got in line to recieve his meal while attempting to igore some of the choice words of others. He was still a bit ticked off about the ruler being slammed onto a girl's desk earlier. Conan then looked around the room a bit before he could drift away into nothingness.

When Ms. Fallow seemed to have slunk back into her work, Mary took it as her chance to slip out of the room. She let out a deep sigh once she finally made it down the hall. The cafeteria was loud, and not to mention packed, and Mary was glad she decided to pack her own lunch for the day, because the lines stretched on for miles as others pushed and cut in line to buy lunch. Finding a seat next to a couple of acquintances, Mary sat down and let out a sigh of relief and smiled. She opened her backpack and pulled out a brown bag with a homemade sub sandwhich inside.

Mary was soon swept up in conversation with the other girls at the table. They laughed and gossiped and Mary just listened. She wasn't much into gossip, and would rather not trash another's reputation. Looking over on of the girls shoulders, Mary noticed that Conan was sitting all alone again. She was suddenly lost in thought, when one of the girls brought up the new nurse. Mary listened intently. "You get the paper about the vaccines?" Mary asked one of them.

"Yeah, everyone did. That line's gonna be insane!" said the girl

"I can't believe what happened to that one girl on the news. Scary." said the other

Mary nodded, and remembered the news flash that aired only the day before. A chill rushed up and down her spine. It was terrible what was happening. She wondered how it all started. She decided she would wait as long as it took for those vaccines, she was just happy that she would have to chance to be immunized.

Dawn walked into the small office confirming her enrollment into this school. At first Dawn had been sad leaving her old home and private school. Already she was getting to much attention and she dodn't like it. Suddenly her parents walked out the office. "You're all set, this is your schedule" Dawns mom said handing her a schedule.  Dawn took the paper."I can show her around" some random boy said. "No you need to come to my office I'm sure Dawn can find her way" the principal said. Dawn nodded her head and grabbed her bag and walked out of the office.

Dawn looked around the hall it appeared crowded., It must be lunch she thought. Dawn made her way to what seemed to be the cafeteria. The smell was horrible. "Good thing I ate already" she whispered to herself. Suddenly it seemed to be like every eye was on her, but she was probably being self conscious. Just then she stopped in the middles of the cafeteria. "Where the heck do I sit" she whispered. A few people motioned for her but she was not sitting with them. Dawn held her head eye her high heel clicking against the ground maybe she was overdressed. Just then she bumped into a girl. "I'm sorry" Dawn said looking at the girl. Perfect I can hang out with her. "I'm Dawn" she said and smiled her perfectly straight white teeth showing.

As soon as Mary had finished eating, she realized that the other two girls, who obviously knew each other pretty well, had forgotten her and diverted into a conversation she couldn't follow. She excused herself, leaving the table quitely. She crumpled up the brown paper bag her sub was in and threw it away. Conan was nowhere in sight anymore, and Mary was suddenly lost in thought again. She walked blindly towards the cafeteria exit, when suddenly she bumped smack into another girl. Eeep! she exclaimed in shock, as she was not looking where she was going.

The girl apologized, and smiled at her. Mary was taken back for a moment. She realized that the majority of people were looking at her and this girl to see what would happen. Mary was bewildered, but shaking her head, as if to snap herself out of some trance, she looked back at the girl. Mary's soft, blue eyes grew wide. "No," She stammered, then smiled shyly "I'm sorry. I wasn't looking where I was going..I get distracted." She said, playing with a strand of her red hair. "You said you're name is Dawn? Um, I'm Mary." She said, her tone becoming less timid and more friendly. "You must be new around here, I've never seen you before." She said, realizing that a few boys were staring at Dawn from behind, practically drooling in admiration.

Renn ate alone. Again. He noticed a disturbance when a girl had walked in, but he ignored her, like everyone else. There was also a fellow named Conan, who he too was alone, but Renn didn't feel like being freindly again. Ever.

The homemade mac-and-cheese was like tentacles; dull, rubbery and tasteless in his mouth as he chewed slowly, barely swallowing. Today somehow felt different. The atmosphere was tenser than even in Ms. Fallow's classroom and he had heard with sharp ears, several voices going panickly on about some deadly disease. Renn sighed. It seemed everyday now there was something new going on for the kids to talk about, but he didn't really care.

Socail status, communicating, gossip; it was nothing he was interested in anymore. And he doubted he would ever really be surprised by anything ever again. Terrorists? The end might be a welcoming excuse for death. Disease? Now that would be betraying his parents.

He remembered yet again, his mother and father's last words. Renn raced alongside the stretchers and pushed people aside as the ambulance workers tried to calm him down and pull him away from his parents. From his life. "Mom! Dad!" he screamed, reaching out for his mother. She smiled wryly, her eyes saggy and bloodshot. Blossoms of red sprouted were sprouting all over her blanket covered body. It was all happening too fast. It couldn't be true. It had to be a nightmare. Renn's mother gently stroked her blood covered hand to his face. It left a red streak. "Take care of yourself, won't you. Renn...I love you, Renn...Promise-promise me you won't die-y-you'll live, right? you'll li-..." he promised, over and over again, untl dad put his hand weakly on Renn's. "We'll be fine, bud. Don't worry... B-be strong... For us...." Renn was sobbing. Crying so hard, he could have filled the Pacific Ocean and Neptune and the Earth up with tears. His dad's hand fell and Renn accidently looked at what his hand had been covering. A gaping hole, a huge gash, a fleshy, blood-spattered piece of a windshield was dug into his ribs. Renn could see through his guts and stomach and ribs, even the table.

Then he grabbed his head and banged it on the table, trying not to cry. Several people gave him weird looks, but Renn didn't notice; he was focused on not reliving that memory; it wouldn't help anything. He could feel a sharp bruise start to lump on his forehead where he had hit it. Idiot, he thought irritably.

Mary was happily introducing herself to the new girl, and getting to know her a bit, when she suddenly heard a thudding noise coming from a nearby table. Some of the kids were laughing, surprised at what they saw. They couldn't possibly comprehend why the boy was hitting his head against the table like that, and they took it as more of a joke. "He probably just realized he left the pills at home." one boy said to his friend, who was now rocking in his seat laughing. Mary felt her heart drop. She looked over at Dawn, who was standing next to her, and she bowed apologetically "Excuse me for a moment." She said, backing away and then turning to walk over to the table where the boy was sitting all alone.

Mary approached the table carefully. She knew this boy from her class, but the two hadn't ever held a conversation, and the boy didn't seem to like to talk to many people at all. However, Mary couldn't help but say something, try to help. Standing nearby, but not too close as to give him his space, Mary clenched her dress nervously and peaked her head over at him. "Renn--" She started. "You're name is Renn, right?" She asked softly, her voice soothing and sympathetic. The boy had his head on the table. Mary started playing with her hair nervously. "Ar-are you okay, Renn..?" She asked quietly, not trying to attract too much attention to them from the other kids who only wanted to make fun. She wasn't sure that she would get an answer or a nod, but she felt helpless and had to say something..

"You're Renn, right?" That girl again What was her name? Oh yeah. Mary. Renn didn't even know why he bothered to think of her name. He raised his head from the cool table. He hoped there wasn't tears streaks anywhere. Even he had little pride for that and it would be really embarrassing if she saw anything.

He shook his head. Then, not wanting to seem mute, said "I just had a headache." -Well, at least he did now. Renn's voice seemed hoarse and whispery from disuse. He faintly hoped it didn't sound creepy.

He noticed he seemed a lot more aware around him since Mary had come near him. He didn't know why. Also, he realized uncomfortably that people were snickering or glancing at him uneasily. Why was that? Normally, he would hardly notice. Maybe it was Her fault. Renn got that glazed expression then that usually made him invisible. He knew what would happen next. Mary would leave and Renn would be alone again. He was surprised she had noticed him twice. And even then, she was nice to him both times, if not awkward. But Renn knew she would leave eventually. Most likely very soon, to never again talk to him. He didn't really mind in general; it was better for him not to keep freinds for long, or it would be more painul when they left. But for some reason, Renn wanted Mary to stay. Maybe I've finally lost it, he thought. He wanted to smack his head again. He mentally shook himself and quickly covered his sudden hopes with false, calm acceptance.

Renn waited for the girl to leave. He was confused, but acted on his instinct; appear indifferent, and wait for her descicion...

"It seems I'm alone again"Dawn said and looked as Mary was talking to the boy. Dawn looked at the table of boys who where eating there food they appeared to be Football players. I might as well distract everyone from the situation. Dawn walked to the table who all stopped eating. Dawn smiled. "I'm Dawn" she said. Everyone moved and she felt a pair of eyes on her. Dawn turned and seen Mary look at her and Dawn smiled and sat down. Hopefully she doesn't misunderstand. Suddenly Dawn felt a chill run up her spine and she felt really moody. "I'm sorry I have to leave" she said to the group of cheerleaders and football players.Dawn smiled sweetly and got up.  Her high heels clacking against the ground.Dawn moved quickly and quitely with purpose pulling out her phone and calling her parents.

Mary was delighted to see that Renn actually broke habit and spoke, to her no less, where as she usually just gets scoffed at by kids like him..

Mary took his speech as a sort of self-proclaimed invite to just plop right down next to him at his table. She was polite, but sometimes she was a little naive and perhaps didn't understand the messages people were trying to send. Renn's cool countenance didn't cause Mary to think twice, but she did however listen when he said he had a headache. She looked through her bag and pulled out something for his headache. "Here!" She said in a bubbly voice, perhaps too bubbly as she was just overjoyed at the opportunity to finally help cheer him up and get to know him. She handed the medicine to him and smiled wide. Then, she heard Dawn's voice. She was talking to the Jocks at the table, and Mary looked over at her. Her glance almost said "I'm sorry, but he needs some comfort." Dawn smiled back, which seemed to calm any fears of Mary's that she was being rude by leaving her so suddenly.

Turning her attention back to Renn, Mary still had her hand held out for him to take the offer. Then a thought came to mind - she hoped she wasn't bothering him.

Mark had been at the high school gathering all the paperwork and preparing to give vaccines when all of a sudden he seen a girl walk into the nurses office. "Yes mom I will stay in the nurses office till it passes" she said. Just then she seen him "Bye" she said and hung up the phone. Mark stared at her the dark long curly hair and dark blue eyes reminded him of two people he knew very well. "Wow look how you have grown Dawn" he said. Mark had always felt like Dawns older brother because he had always studied in her parents house. She must be a heart breaker he thought. Just then he noticed she seemed uncomfortable. "Ah I see its that thing huh" he asked her. Dawn nodded. "Well don't worry sit there I will be doing paper work for vaccinations and preparing" he said. Dawn looked at him sharply but said nothing after all she couldn't she had promised he parents.

Shifter: The War Inside
Setting
Takes place in a large city. The characters in this RP will all be from the same school, Nestington High, and thus, they will be around the same age. And then theres the Stinton Research Lab.

Plot

You are a nomal teenager. You go to school, and are just barely getting by. Prehaps you have bully problems. Maybe not. Maybe you are currently involved in a shaky relationship. It could be you are failing all your classes and the upcoming exams are your last chance, making all the difference between passing, or repeating the senior year. Whatever it is, a lot of pressure has been placed on your shoulders so close to graduation. Your situation couldn't possibly get any worse..

or perhaps it could.

Your school has recently hired a new nurse, and papers have been sent home with you to inform you and your parents of a required vacine for all students right away, to immunize them against a new "deadly outbreak". You have your scruples, but the recent news reports of people falling gravely ill have made you see the light, and have given you reason to see your school nurse. Once your parents sign the papers, you are ready to take a place in line outside the nurses office for your vaccination.

The rest of the day, you are happy about your decision, as news reports only get worse. However, the next morning you realize you feel strange..

You find that your instincts have significantly been enhanced. Next thing you know, you are in a cage, and you are not yourself. You have fur, feathers, or even scales. You have become a beast. Confined to the inner walls of a research lab, you have become a living experiment. Those vaccines, you realize, did more than just immunize you from a disease. They transformed you comletely, and if you hope to escape, or get some answers, it may be best to follow your animal instincts.

History

Trying this a second time. Here's a little info that will help guid you to filling out your character form:

Shifter: The shifters are the teens that have been given animal DNA, and have the ability to shift from human form to animal form. However, at first, the teens don't really know how to control their shifting, and either become their animal form at random times, perhaps when a "temptation"arises (i.e. a mailman, if you are a dog/wolf creature) and causes their animal instincts to take control. In the beginning, when a teen becomes his or her animal form, they have no idea how to change back, and may or may not switch back randomly, but for how long no one knows. Over time, however, they will learn to control the shifting.

Henchmen: You are a scientist who is working for Volkov, the one who is responsible for the birth of the new species called Shifters. Volkov is planning on using the data you collect in your experiments on the teens to create a new subtance that can be distributed more globally to transform more people. The motives behind Volkovs experiment are still unknown.

Scientist: Pretty self explainatory. You work for the Research Lab. You have no idea that half your fellow scientists are working for Volkov, and you are determined to find a cure for the Shifters and return them back to their normal lives.

Human: Need I explain? Lol you are a human teen. Totally normal in the fact that you do not turn into a beast randomly as shifters do. But you start to notice that a lot of the kids in the area are acting strange, perhaps even some of your own friends, and you realize that they soon disapear. You are either bothered by it or not, but something inside you makes you want to get to the bottom of this. And who is this Volkov anyway?

Rules

Rules are regular:

-No Bad Language (PG)

-Romance allowed (If I see anyone going overboard however, you will be addressed and warned. Keep it PG if possible, nothing graphic or you will be asked to leave. Thanks)

-No controlling other people's characters.

-Shifters will obviously have to give a description of their human/animal forms.

-Have Fun!!! :D that's what it's all about :)
