Herrerasaurus
Name Herrerasaurus ischigualastensis Information
Diet Carnivorous A Goat Herder named Victorino Herrera first saw the fossils for the Herrerasaurus in 1959. It was described and named by Osvaldo Reig, a paleotologist. There has been many discoveries of this dinosaur in the northwest Patagonia, Argentina Region. Herrerasaurus had a long, narrow skull that lacked nearly all the specializations that characterized later dinosaurs and more closely resembled those of more primitive archosaurs such as Euparkeria. Herrerasaurus had a flexible joint in the lower jaw, allowing it to slide back and forth to deliver a grasping bite. The jaws were equipped with large serrated teeth for biting and eating flesh, and the neck was slender and flexible.
