It had a large body with a long neck and small head and belonged to the sauropod family, alongside brachiosaurus and diplodocus - though it was a much later sauropod than those!

Contrary to popular belief, Alamosaurus was not named after the Alamo in Texas, nor the battle that had been fought there. The original specimen was found in Ojo Alamo, the former name for the geologic formation which has now been renamed Kirtland Shale.
