Despite his fearsome name, Shadow Claw is not one to use force. He is very tense most of the time and is easily spooked. He is not very strong and was always worried that he wasn't good enough for the pack.His brother, Night Sparrow, often teased him for being so weak when they were chicks. Unfortunately as they got older and their aggressive nephew, Marbled Twilight took over the pack, Shadow Claw's supposed weakness did not go unnoticed. He was bullied mercilessly, forced into the position of omega, and eventually kicked out of the pack along with his sister, Rose Petal and the other omegas when food became scarce. Although their father, Rain Dapple tried to prevent this from happening, the rest of the pack sided with Marbled Twilight, fearing starvation.

Shadow Claw and the other omegas found a new territory to call home, and they began to look up to him as their new benevolent leader.
